Abstract Speech transmission index (STI for short) is an important index to evaluate the quality of speech transmission of the room, it can better reflect the degree of voice signal affected by room reverberation and noise in the transmission process.This paper presents an algorithm for directly measuring STI index, white noise is filtered by Paul Kellet filter to generate pink noise, the signal envelope is extracted by wavelet transform, which improves the extraction accuracy of signal envelope and makes the measurement of STI index more accurate.

This study presents the assessment of the quality of speech intelligibility of two Malaysian mosques and the results are used to develop a set of general acoustical guidelines to be used in the design of a mosque. Two mosques were selected for the research: Masjid UPM and the Masjid Jamek. The objective of the research is to enable the comparison of the acoustics and speech intelligibility between the mosques as function of the size, volume, occupancy and other parameters of the main prayer hall on the acoustic and speech intelligibility of the respective mosques. The reverberation time (RT60), speech level (SL), background noise (BN), signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ratio) were determined and are used to develop the speech transmission index (STI) and rapid transmission index (RASTI) prediction models for both mosques. It was observed from the results that the RT60, STI and RASTI values shows better performance over number of occupancy for both mosques. Furthermore, the BN and SL results were visualized using the spatial distribution patterns (SDP) of the main hall. The results of the analysis show that the overall acoustic and speech quality of Masjid Jamek is better when compared to the overall acoustic and speech quality of Masjid UPM. These results are then used to develop a set of design recommendations to ensure adequate speech intelligibility quality a mosque.

This work deals with the improvement of the room acoustic quality of two medium sized meeting rooms through the investigation of the optimal placement of absorption and diffusive panels on the walls and ceiling. Acoustic measurements have been carried out in the existing untreated rooms with ODEON 13 room acoustics measurement and prediction software, and the Adobe Audition plugins Aurora. Simulations of different combinations of sound absorption and diffusion treatments have been carried out with the updated version of the software, ODEON 15. The panels were positioned in the meeting rooms following the guidelines of the DIN 18041 standard and the scientific literature. The results advise the application of absorptive materials on the ceiling or around the borders, creating a reflective middle area, and on the upper part of one the lateral walls, including the rear wall. Configurations with diffusers do not generally bring significant improvements. The Speech Transmission Index (STI) is a less sensitive parameter for the different acoustic scenarios, compared to Reverberation Time (T) and Clarity (C50). The research also outlined a design workflow, useful to successfully design meeting rooms and rooms for speech in general, which allows to determine the optimal number and location of acoustic panels and to minimize the costs.

The study of mosque acoustics, concerning acoustical features, sound quality for speech intelligibility, and additional practical acoustic criteria, is commonly overlooked. Acoustic quality is vital to the fundamental use of mosques, in terms of contributing toward prayers and worshippers’ appreciation. This paper undertakes a comparative analysis of the acoustic quality level and the acoustical characteristics for two modern mosque buildings constructed in Erbil city. This work investigates and examines the acoustical quality and performance of these two mosques and their prayer halls through room simulation using ODEON Room Acoustics Software, to assess the degree of speech intelligibility according to acoustic criteria relative to the spatial requirements and design guidelines. The sound pressure level and other room-acoustic indicators, such as reverberation time (T30), early decay time, and speech transmission index, are tested. The outcomes demonstrate the quality of acoustics in the investigated mosques during semi-occupied and fully-occupied circumstances. The results specify that the sound quality within the both mosques is displeasing as the loudspeakers were off.

As diverse as the knowledge transmission techniques aided by multimedia resources are, nothing replaces the teacher-student relationship, which is developed in the classrooms. Therefore, classrooms must offer the necessary conditions for the satisfactory development of teaching and learning activities. In this context, the importance of classroom acoustics is highlighted. The Speech Transmission Index (STI) is one of the broadest and most important parameters to measure speech intelligibility. STI weighs the effects that can cause deterioration on the voice signal, such as the reverberation time and background noise. This work presents an evaluation of the acoustic performance of classrooms using the STI. For that, three constructive patterns were evaluated. The constructive models were named 010, 022 and 023. Students and teachers answered a questionnaire about the perception of noise in the classroom and at school, and the constructive pattern 023 was studied. Computer simulations were performed with ODEON software to precited STI. The results of the measurements and the questionnaires revealed that the noise that disturbs the activities in the classroom comes from the school itself, not only from the other classrooms, corridors and adjacent patios, but also from inside the classroom itself.

This study applied SERVQUAL scale of Parasuraman et al to measure factors affecting customer satisfaction on service quality at Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank - An Giang Branch (Techcombank An Giang). The study was conducted to survey 207 customers who have been using the service at Techcombank An Giang. The survey results were analyzed by the Cronbach's Alpha reliability test method, then used Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to verify and evaluate the scale of service quality. The results of the regression analysis show that customer's satisfaction about service quality at Techcombank An Giang includes four factors: The factor with the highest level is the Empathy with Beta = 0.253, the second of factor is the Responsibility with Beta = 0.248, ranked third in the influence level is the Tangible with Beta = 0.235, and the lowest impact level is the Reliability with Beta = 0.144. The research also uses statistical methods to describe and test the differences of demographic factors with customer's satisfactionon service quality.The analysis results show that there is no difference between customer's satisfaction on service quality and factors such as gender, age, income, number of transaction banks, regular transaction banks, and time to use the service at Techcombank An Giang. Through the research results, the author would like to propose some ideas to improve the quality of services, thereby attracting new customers and importantly, keeping traditional customers because the development orientation of Techcombank is to take care of old customers to cross sell other products of the bank. The Stud results offer a basis for the branch to identify the factors influencing customer satisfaction on their service quality, thereby having an appropriate strategy to improve customer satisfaction.

Background: In this paper, we propose a secure image watermarking technique which is applied to grayscale and color images. It consists in applying the SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) in the Lifting Wavelet Transform domain for embedding a speech image (the watermark) into the host image. Methods: It also uses signature in the embedding and extraction steps. Its performance is justified by the computation of PSNR (Pick Signal to Noise Ratio), SSIM (Structural Similarity), SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), SegSNR (Segmental SNR) and PESQ (Perceptual Evaluation Speech Quality). Results: The PSNR and SSIM are used for evaluating the perceptual quality of the watermarked image compared to the original image. The SNR, SegSNR and PESQ are used for evaluating the perceptual quality of the reconstructed or extracted speech signal compared to the original speech signal. Conclusion: The Results obtained from computation of PSNR, SSIM, SNR, SegSNR and PESQ show the performance of the proposed technique.

AbstractImage fusion is the method of combining relevant information from two or more images into a single image resulting in an image that is more informative than the initial inputs. Methods for fusion include discrete wavelet transform, Laplacian pyramid based transform, curvelet based transform etc. These methods demonstrate the best performance in spatial and spectral quality of the fused image compared to other spatial methods of fusion. In particular, wavelet transform has good time-frequency characteristics. However, this characteristic cannot be extended easily to two or more dimensions with separable wavelet experiencing limited directivity when spanning a one-dimensional wavelet. This paper introduces the second generation curvelet transform and uses it to fuse images together. This method is compared against the others previously described to show that useful information can be extracted from source and fused images resulting in the production of fused images which offer clear, detailed information.

The particularity of the underwater acoustic channel has put forward a higher request for collection and efficient transmission of the underwater image. In this paper, based on the characteristics of sonar image, wavelet transform is used to sparse decompose the image, and selecting Gaussian random matrix as the observation matrix and using the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm to reconstruct the image. The experimental result shows that the quality of the reconstruction image and PSNR have gained great ascension compared to the traditional compression and processing of image based on the wavelet transform while they have the same measurement numbers in the coding portion. It provides a convenient for the sonar image’s underwater transmission.
