In this paper the authors analyse the conditions of effective communication in the mentoring process. In the literature on the subject effective business communication is considered as a key to planning, leading, organizing and controlling the resources of organizations to achieve their objectives. Still, communication models in the mentoring network have not been of interest to researchers yet. The aim of this study was to identify the factors that influence the effectiveness of communication in the mentoring process. The authors created a theoretical model of communication in the mentoring process which became a basis for primary research conducted among 103 mentors and 119 mentees in Poland. It occurred that the factors influencing the effectiveness of communication in the mentoring process are similar in both groups. Next, the authors incorporated the Exploratory Factor Analysis and Cronbach’s alpha reliability test of different factors influencing the effectiveness of communication in the mentoring process. The results proved that all the developed scales demonstrated reliability above the recommended threshold. The final stage involved developing a regression model which allowed to identify the factors influencing the effectiveness of communication in the mentoring process. Those factors are: non-verbal channels and tools of communication, written and oral channels and tools of communication as well as social engagement in the mentoring process.

This research is part of a battery of tests to determine the psychological and behavioral consequences of the COVID-19 crisis, based on the COVIDiSTRESS global survey initiative (Lieberoth et al., 2020). The objective is to establish the psychometric properties of the OECD trust scale to explain trust in people and institutions in situation of COVID-19 in Panama. It is a cross-sectional, prospective, and comparative study. The confidence measurement instrument developed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) was applied to a population of 765 Panamanian adults, between n 18 and 82 years old. The psychometric structure indicates a construct validity that integrates two factors that together have an explained variance of 69.69%. Cronbach's Alpha reliability yields an overall score of 0.882. The results show mistrust in people, authorities, and national and international institutions in situation of COVID-19 in Panama. Significant differences are perceived by schooling, marital status, and age. Confidence is similarly low by gender, despite government efforts for relevant and efficient management during the onset of the pandemic. It is important to highlight that the quarantine situation due to pandemic during the application of the questionnaire is an external, extraordinary variable, so it is recommended to carry out longitudinal studies to contrast and measure the impact it has.

The aim of this study was to develop a scale to measure the attitudes of the university academic and administrative staff and students toward sexual harassment and assault, and examine its psychometric properties. After the development of the item pool and examination of the content validity of the intended items, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and parallel analysis was conducted and Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient was calculated collecting data from 150 participants (54.7% of female and 45.3% of male) for the initial version (comprised of 12 items) of the Attitudes Toward Sexual Harassment and Assault Scale (ATSHAS). In the second phase, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was conducted with 354 participants (54% of female and 46% of male) for the revised version (10 items) of the ATSHAS. Additionally, Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient was calculated with second sample. After developing the item pool, the completion of the first phase of the study took 5 months, and the second phase took 4 months. The final version of the ATSHAS consisting of nine items demonstrated sufficient psychometric properties for measuring attitudes toward sexual harassment and assault in the university environment.

Architectural heritage conservation in recent years has hinged on conventional methods and has failed to recognize innovative methods and emerging technologies. Consequently, in Nigeria, suboptimal conservation work results in the continual deterioration of architectural heritage, leading to the loss of heritage and its values and significance. The study, therefore, sought to examine challenges and prospects for implementing innovative techniques in the conservation of architectural heritage in Nigeria. The study examined three heritage conservation interventions in Nigeria, focusing on the applicability of innovative conservation methods for documentation, diagnosis, and treatment of deterioration of architectural heritage. Questionnaires were administered through purposive sampling to 40 heritage conservation professionals, with 31 (77.5%) completed and returned for analysis. A Cronbach’s alpha reliability test value of 0.76 established the validity of the research instrument. The findings affirmed that heritage professionals have low familiarity (mean value of 2.19) with innovative techniques for conservation of architectural heritage. Of the respondents, 41.9% had gained a minimal level of technical knowledge of how to implement innovative techniques in conservation interventions. Improving the performance of conservation interventions also ranked highly as a potential strength of implementing innovative techniques. Conclusively, there is a need to improve advocacy and training in innovative conservation techniques based on their ability to characterize architectural heritage materials and investigate their chemical composition, microstructure, and morphological features.

Abstract Background Maternal satisfaction with the breastfeeding experience is an important determinant of breastfeeding success. There is currently no valid tool to measure perceived maternal satisfaction with breastfeeding in the Arab context. Methods This cohort study tested the Maternal Breastfeeding Evaluation Scale (MBFES) on 450 healthy Lebanese mothers for internal consistency reliability and construct validity. Participants were recruited between April 2018 and February 2020. Results The Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient of the Arabic MBFES (MBFES-A) was 0.87. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that it has three components: Infant Satisfaction/Growth, Maternal Enjoyment/Role Attainment, and Lifestyle/Body Image with reliability coefficients of 0.88, 0.87, and 0.68, respectively. Four items were deleted because of low factor loadings and three items were relocated to the Infant Satisfaction/Growth subscale based on their factor loadings. Participants who were exclusively breastfeeding at one and/or 3 months had higher mean MBFES-A total and Infant Satisfaction/Growth and Maternal Enjoyment/Role Attainment subscale scores than participants who were partially breastfeeding, and significantly higher mean scores than mothers who were not breastfeeding (all p values < 0.001), findings that support the scale’s construct validity. Moreover, scores on the Infant Satisfaction/Growth subscale correlated with exclusive breastfeeding at one (r = 0.37, p < 0.001) and 3 months (r = 0.31, p < 0.001). The MBFES-A score had positive modest correlations with maternal attitude towards breastfeeding (r = 0.30, p < 0.001), exclusive breastfeeding at one (r = 0.27) and at 3 months (r = 0.26, p < 0.001 for both), as well as with the longest previous exclusive breastfeeding (r = 0.27, p < 0.001). Conclusions The 26-item MBFES-A is a reliable and valid instrument to use in future breastfeeding research in Middle East North Africa countries. There is a need for replication of our findings in other Arab contexts using new constructs to establish stronger construct validity.

To date, the Intentions to Seek Counseling Inventory (ISCI; Cash et al., 1975) is the most widely used instrument used to measure psychological help-seeking intentions. However, the ISCI has yet to be validated with international students. In this study, we examined the dimensionality and reliability of the Intentions to Seek Counseling Inventory by performing exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach alpha reliability analysis, and split-half reliability analysis with a sample of international students (N = 183). We found a two-factor, 15-item assessment that explained 49.92% of the common variance. Our findings provide support for the use of ISCI with international students, albeit with different dimensionality. Implications of the findings for both research and practice are discussed.
