Abstract At harvest, the stems of the sorghum plant are generally cut down and then it is left abandoned. Meanwhile, the remaining sorghum stems from the harvest have the potential to be regrown for the cultivation of ratoon. The advantages of ratoon cultivation are it has a relatively shorter harvest time than the main crop, requires less water, and lower production costs. The aim of this study was to test the growth and yield of five varieties of sorghum, namely Numbu, Super 1, Suri 3, Keller, and Kawali in ratoon cultivation and to test the growth and yield of sorghum with several selections of the number of shoots in ratoon cultivation. The study used a factorial - Randomized Completed Block Design with 2 treatment factors, repeated 3 times. The first treatment was sorghum varieties consisting of Numbu, Super 1, Suri 3, Keller, and Kawali. The second treatment was the number of shoots consisting of 1 shoot, 2 shoots, 3 shoots, and 4 shoots. Observational data were analyzed using analysis of variance with the F test at 5% level followed by Duncan’s multiple distance test. Observation variables included the height of plant, stem diameter, grain weight per clump, number of grains per clump, the weight of 1000 grains, and yield per plant. The results indicated that the highest plant in the Numbu variety, while the largest stem diameter was in the Kawali variety. The number of shoots 4 increased the grain yield per clump but decreased the plant height compared to the number of shoots that were less. The yield of grains per plot was higher on Super1 varieties as much as 604.33 g or 3.3 ton/ha, however the highest number of grains per clump was on Kawali varieties.

This research was conducted to determine the growth of red sugarcane seedling on pruning and frequency of watering. This research was conducted in the research field of Faculty of Agriculture University of Sumatera Utara (± 25 m asl) from June-October 2017 using Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications. The first factor was pruning (control, 1, and 2 months/plant) as well as the second factor was the frequency of watering (1, 3, 5, and 7 days/plants). The variable observed were plant height, a number of leaves, stem diameter, a number of the tiller, shoot wet weight, root wet weight, and shoot-root ratio. The results showed that the frequency of watering treatment had a significant effect on the number of a leaf (4,6,8,10 and 12 weeks after plant), stem diameter (4,6,8,10 and 12 weeks after plant), shoot wet weight, and root wet weight. Pruning treatment had no significant effect on all variables observed. The interaction of both has no significant effect on all variables observed.

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh jenis mikoriza, varietas dan interaksi jenis mikoriza dan varietas terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman cabai pada tanah Incepticol. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Iesuum Krueng Raya Aceh Besar, Rumah Kaca dan Laboratorium Fisiologi Tumbuhan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Syiah Kuala Darussalam Banda Aceh dari bulan Mei sampai September 2018. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) pola faktorial 3 x 2 dengan 3 ulangan. Faktor yang diamati dalam penelitian ini adalah jenis mikoriza dan varietas. Jenis mikoriza yang digunakan adalah Glomus mosseae, Gigaspora sp dan Campuran serta varietas yang digunakan adalah varietas Lado F1 dan Perintis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan jenis mikoriza berpengaruh nyata pada tinggi tanaman 30 dan 45 HSTdan jumlah cabang produktif. Jenis mikoriza terbaik terdapat pada jenis mikoriza campuran (Glomus mosseae dan Gigaspora sp). Pada varietas berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman 15,30 dan 45 HST, diameter batang 30 dan 40 HST dan jumlah cabang produktif serta berpengaruh nyata pada diameter batang 45 HST. Jenis varietas terbaik terdapat pada varietas Lado. Interaksi antara jenis mikoriza dan jenis varietas berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman 30 HST dan jumlah cabang produktif serta berpengaruh nyata pada diameter batang 30 HST.Interaksi antara jenis mikoriza dan varietas terbaik tedapat pada jenis mikoriza campuran (Glomus mosseae dan Gigaspora sp) dengan varietas Lado F1.The Effect of Mycorrhizal Types on the Growth of Some Chili Varieties in Incepticol Soil Krueng Raya Aceh BesarAbstract. This research was carried out at the Krueng Raya Iesuum Experimental Garden in Aceh Besar, greenhouse and laboratory of plant physiology, Faculty of Agriculture of Syiah Kuala University, Darussalam, Banda Aceh from Mei to September 2018. The analysis of data used in this study was Randomized Block Design -Factorial 3x2 with 3 replications. The factors observed in this research were the type of mycorrhiza and varieties. Types of mycorrhiza used are Glomus mosseae, Gigaspora, and the combination. Varieties used are Lado F1 and Perintis. The result of this research showed that types of mycorrhiza take effect significantly on plant height 30 dan 45 DAP and productive branch numbers. The mixed of mycorrhiza gives the best result on growth and yield of chili plant. The varieties of chili plants highly significant take effect on plant height 15, 30 and 45 DAP, stem diameter 30 and 40 HST and productive branch numbers and significantly affect on stem diameter 45 DAP. Lado F1 gives the best result on growth and yield. The interactions of mycorrhiza and varieties type highly significant take effect on plant height 30 HST and productive branch number and significantly take effect on stem diameter 30 HST. The combination of mixed mycorrhiza and Lado F1 treatment gives the best result on growth and yield of chili plants.

ABSTRACT: Corn is a nitrogen-intensive crop, and the use of management practices such as inoculation of the seed with diazotrophic bacteria, which can maximize crop productivity and reduce the need of nitrogen fertilizers, may result in lower production costs. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of inoculation of corn seed with Azospirillum brasilense and controlled addition of nitrogen to topdressing on the nutrition, production components, and productivity of crop grain. The experimental design was a randomized block design, with four replications in a 2 × 5 factorial scheme. The treatments consisted of inoculation or not of corn seed with A. brasilense (at 100 mL per 25 kg of seed) and five nitrogen (N) levels in topdressing (0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 kg N ha-1 from urea [45% N]) were applied when the corn was in the phenological growth stage V6. Foliar macronutrients, foliar chlorophyll index (FCI), production components, and yield of corn grain were valuated. Inoculation of corn seeds with A. brasilense increased plant height and grain yield. Fertilization in topdressing, with N levels up to 120 kg ha-1, linearly increased the foliar nutrients and productivity of corn cultivated in the spring/summer in the low-altitude Cerrado region of Brazil.

 RESUMO - O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho agronômico e econômico na cultura do milho verde submetida ao uso de bioestimulantes na presença e ausência de fungicida. Dessa forma, dois experimentos foram conduzidos em anos distintos, em delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso com três repetições, em arranjo fatorial 4x2. O primeiro fator correspondeu à combinação de bioestimulantes (Ausência, MC Cream, MC Extra, MC Cream+MC Extra) e o segundo fator à presença e ausência de fungicida (piraclostrobina + epoxiconazole). Foi avaliado o peso de espigas verdes, a altura de plantas, diâmetro de colmo, teor de clorofila e severidade de doenças, além da viabilidade econômica dos tratamentos. Os Bioestimulantes, na ausência de fungicida, foram eficientes para aumentar o peso das espigas verdes, altura de plantas, e o teor de clorofila. Na presença do fungicida os bioestimulantes aumentaram o diâmetro de colmo e reduziram a severidade de doenças. Os investimentos em insumos elevaram os custos de produção, porém a rentabilidade foi compensada pelo aumento da renda bruta. Em situação de baixa disponibilidade hídrica, o bioestimulante MC Extra foi o mais viável economicamente para a cultura do milho verde.Palavras-chave: fitossanidade, produtividade, renda líquida, Zea mays L. EFFICIENCY OF BIOSTIMULANTS AND FUNGICIDE IN THE AGRONOMIC AND ECONOMIC CHARACTERS OF GREEN CORN  ABSTRACT – The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic and economic performance of the green corn crop, subjected to the use of biostimulants in the presence and absence of fungicide. Two experiments were conducted in different years using a randomized block design with three replications, in a 4x2 factorial arrangement. The first factor corresponded to the combination of biostimulants (Absence, MC Cream, MC Extra, MC Cream + MC Extra) and the second factor was the presence and absence of fungicide (pyraclostrobin + epoxiconazole). Green ear weight, plant height, stem diameter, chlorophyll content and severity of diseases were evaluated, as well as the economic viability of the treatments.In the absence of fungicide, biostimulants were efficient to increase the green ear weight, plant height, and chlorophyll content. In the presence of the fungicide, biostimulants increased stem diameter and reduced disease severity. Investments in inputs increased production costs, but profitability was offset by the increase in gross income. In a situation of low water availability, the biostimulant MC Extra was the most economically viable for the green maize crop.Keywords: plant health, productivity, net income, Zea mays L.

 RESUMO - O rendimento de cultivares de sorgo sacarino em planta de primeiro corte e na rebrota tem sido estudado para viabilizar o cultivo com menores custos de produção. Entretanto, dados qualitativos sobre a qualidade de caldo e rendimento de etanol entre safra principal e rebrota são escassos. Objetivou-se com este trabalho comparar genótipos de sorgo sacarino quanto à qualidade industrial e avaliar o efeito do tipo de colheita e biomassa processada no rendimento industrial para produção de etanol. Foi conduzido um experimento em blocos ao acaso com três repetições em esquema de parcela subdividida, sendo as parcelas constituídas por 20 genótipos de sorgo e as subparcelas pelos tipos de amostras processadas ou colheitas realizadas. Os maiores rendimentos de etanol, em termos absolutos, foram obtidos para CMSXS646 e BRS 511 na colheita de primeiro corte com colmos limpos. A utilização de colmos limpos promoveu, em média, um incremento de 13,5, 14,2, 13,4, 3,3, 7,9, 7,0, 8,0 e 16,4% para etanol, ART, ATR, umidade, ARC, Pol, °Brix, quantidade de caldo, respectivamente, e redução de 17,3% para fibra, em relação às amostras de colmos com folhas. O rendimento médio de etanol por tonelada de caldo extraído foi 28% superior no primeiro corte comparativamente à rebrota.Palavras-chave: Bioenergia, biomassa, °Brix, Sorghum bicolor.  INDUSTRIAL QUALITY AND ETHANOL YIELD OF SWEET SORGHUM GENOTYPES IN MAIN AND RATOON CROPS  ABSTRACT - The yield of sweet sorghum cultivars in first cut and ratoon crops have been studied to enable the cultivation with lower production costs. However, qualitative data on broth quality and yield of ethanol on main crop and ratoon are scarce. The aim of this work was to compare sweet sorghum genotypes regarding the industrial quality and to evaluate the effects of harvests and processed biomass types in the industrial yield for ethanol production. A randomized block design experiment was carried out with three replicates in a split plot design, being the plots composed by 20 sorghum genotypes and the subplots by the types of processed samples or harvests. The highest ethanol yields, in absolute terms, were obtained for CMSXS646 and BRS 511 in first cut with clean stalks. The use of clean stalks promoted, on average, an increase of 13.5, 14.2, 13.4, 3.3, 7.9, 7.0, 8.0 and 16.4% for ethanol, ART, ATR, moisture, ARC, Pol, ° Brix, juice amount, respectively, and reduction of 17.3% for fiber, in relation to samples with stalks and leafs. The average yield of ethanol per extracted juice ton was 28% higher in first cut compared to ratoon.Keywords: bioenergy, biomass, °Brix, Sorghum bicolor.

This research aimed to determine the effect of spacing on the growth and yield of corn. It was conducted from July to November 2019 at the Experimental Plantation of Cereal Crops Research Institute (BalitSereal), Maros, South Sulawesi. The experimental method used was a randomized block design consisting of 4 treatments: J1= (100 cm x 50 cm) x 20 cm, one seed per hole; J2= (100 cm x 50 cm) x 30 cm, alternating between one seed per hole and two seeds per hole; J3= (100 cm x 50 cm) x 40 cm, two seeds per hole; J4= (100 cm x 50 cm) x 15 cm, one seed per hole. The observed variables were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area index, Anthesis Silking Interval (ASI), length of cob 1 and cob 2, diameter of cob 1 and cob 2, weight of shelled seeds/plant, weight of 100 seeds on cob 1 and cob 2, and production of shelled seeds/hectare. The experimental results showed that plant spacing affected the growth and production of maize. The J3 spacing (100 cm x 50 cm) x 40 cm with two seeds per hole significantly affected the leaf area index and gave the highest average stem diameter. The J2 spacing with (100 cm x 50 cm) x 30 cm with alternating between one seed per hole and two seeds per hole produced the highest production in terms of weight of shelled seeds/plant, weight of 100 seeds and yield of shelled seeds/hectare.

Demand for shallots continues to increase due to increasing population and consumption of mera onions. This research was carried out in jingglong village, Sutojayan sub-district, Blitar district in April - June 2018. This research was conducted using factorial randomized block design (RBD) with 2 factors, the first factor was immersion in coconut water (k) which consisted of 3 levels namely immersion for 1 hour (k1) soaking for 2 hours (k2) soaking for 3 hours (k3). The second factor is various media (m) consisting of 3 levels: soil 1: fertilizer 1: husk ash 1 (m1), soil 2: fertilizer 1: husk ash 1 (m2), soil 1: fertilizer 2: husk ash 1 ( m3) The variables observed included plant height, number of shoots, number of leaves, weight of tuber stover, wet weight of tubers, dry weight of tubers. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) level of 5% and further testing with Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). There is no real interaction between coconut water immersion and various planting media on the growth and yield of shallots. The treatment of coconut water immersion (k) significantly affected the height of shallot plants at the age of 14 days and 21 days, and affected the number of shoots and leaves at all ages of observation. The treatment of various planting media showed a significant difference at the age of 14 days to 21 days. The treatment of various planting media had a significant effect on the weight of stover and the wet weight of onion tubers with the highest yield (m1) of 122.03 gr, while in the wet weight the highest yield was on media (m1) with a yield of 80.51 gr.

Leafy vegetable production in the Philippines is less diversified than many other countries, especially those used in salads. As a result, Filipino farmers are less familiar with production of leaf-type lettuce that is increasing in popularity with consumers. Therefore, two separate experiments were conducted simultaneously in open field and under bamboo house-type protective structures roofed with plastic to evaluate the performance and profitability of different leaf-type lettuce cultivars. Each study was carried out in randomized complete block design with five treatment cultivars and three replications. Most cultivars grown under protective structures had higher marketable yields than those grown in the open field. Despite plants grown under protective structures incurring higher production costs compared to the open field, higher marketable yields under protective structures resulted in higher net returns. Among the five cultivars, Green Span gave the highest return in the open field and Green Tower under the protective structure. Smaller lettuce cultivars produced lower yields than bigger cultivars.

Abstract Sorghum has broad adaptability, drought tolerance, high production, has strong and deep roots so that it can grow back after being harvested (ratoon) which can reduce production costs, with ratoon sorghum cultivation it can increase production and income. This study aims to determine the benefits of sorghum farming with ratoon cultivation which can increase farmers’ production and income. Research was conducted in Jeneponto Regency, South Sulawesi,March- September 2018. Research consisted of eight sorghum lines andNumbu variety, using Randomize Block Design of three replications. Spacing 75 cm x 20 cm 1 plant/hole. The main fertilizing plants were 300 kg urea + 100 kg SP36 + 100 kg KClha−1, and ratoon plants were 150 kg urea + 50 kg SP36 + 50 kg KClha−1. Results showed that average yield of main crop was 5.92-6.57 tha−1, and ratoon 4.85-5.83 tha−1. Revenue obtainedmain cropRp. 11,840,000-13,140,000 andratoonRp. 9,706,000-11,660,000ha−1. Benefit of sorghum farming using ratoon system is Rp. 4,843,000-5,950,000ha−1, and Rp.6,729,000-Rp. 8,572,000ha−1 forratoon system. with two harvests, farming benefits range from Rp. 11.5 million-14.5 millionha−1. This is supported by efficient use of sorghum ratoon farming to produce 1 kg of sorghum seeds at a cost of only Rp. 530-615 or more cost efficient up to 49.47% of main crop. Thus, sorghum farming with ratoon cultivation is very helpful for farmers because there is additional production and income so that it is feasible to develop.

Temulawak is rarely cultivated with any intensity because it has a long harvest time and requires wide spacing. One of the solutions for temulawak cultivation is through applying intercropping systems with corn. The current research aimed to determine the most advantageous intercropping planting pattern of temulawak and corn. The experiment adhered to a randomized block design with six treatments and four replications. The treatments were: T1 = strip cropping; T2 = row cropping; T3 = strip-relay temulawakcorn; T4 = row-relay temulawak-corn; T5 = strip-relay corn-temulawak; and T6 = rowrelay corn-temulawak. The results showed that different cropping patterns of an intercropping system of temulawak and corn affected the growth and yield of both crops. The most suitable polyculture cropping pattern, based on land equivalence ratios (LER) values and R/C ratios, was strip cropping that produced rhizhomes of temulawak of up to 2.68 ton ha-1 and of corn of up to 5.24 ton ha-1. The LER value was 1.22 and the revenue/cost (R/C) ratio was as much as 1.43 with a net profit of as much as IDR 9,509,000.
