Abstract The Indonesia Coral Reef Garden (ICRG) program is announced as a coral reef restoration program which can support the marine tourism sector since the Covid-19 pandemic hit Indonesia, particularly in Bali. A comprehensive survey and preliminary study are necessary to be conducted to decide a suitable point or to avoid a premature choice for the restoration location. Field survey in Nusa Dua, Bali was carried out on November-December 2020 to determine physical and chemical characteristics of seawater which appropriate for coral life. The bathymetry result at Nusa Dua, Bali varied from shallow to middle water depth. Area covered with coral, soft coral, coral and sand, sand, and seaweed on the seabed are found over study area. In the depth close to the seabed, the sea condition of temperature, salinity, pH, turbidity, and DO is 26.04 - 28.48 °C, 33.95 - 34.29 PSU, 7.933 - 7.982, 0.81 - 2.44 FTU, and 4.40 - 4.93 mg/L, respectively. Based on the conformity of water quality, the middle depth region has sufficient condition for coral growth. Simple Addition Weighting method is used for determining potential location. The potential coral implementation is located 3-5 km from Tanjung Benoa and in south of Nusa Dua around 1-3 km from coast.

Until now the raw material of wood especially Gelam (Melaleuca cajuputi) for supporting the construction of housing and other infrastructures is increasingly demand in Indonesia. On the Island of Borneo that partly consists of peat swamps needs Gelam very large and continuous, particularly for residential development. Ecological aspects are very important for supporting the silvicultural strategies. The aim of this study is to analyze ecological aspects which are very influence especially physical and chemical soil properties and microclimate as well. The utilization of study is to determine the silvicultural strategies for continuing production and conservation of Gelam in the future. The method was used a field survey around Gelam forest and did collecting samples and measuring there. The results showed in South Borneo the potency of Gelam is only 2,9-7,1 m3/ha and decreasing yearly. Normally Gelam with a diameter <4 cm have been cut down, as well as > 30 cm. Gelam can grow on the peat swamp forest where the soil was low pH 3.5-3.9. Most of pH of soil in these areas was influenced by phyrite (FeS2 of 0.4-2.2% and highest of Fe 90-302 ppm. C organic in the soil was included low-moderate 5.5-10.0%. Result of soil physic analysis showed composition of sand, dust, and clay of 9 : 54 : 57 % respectively. Temperature and humidity around peat swamp forest areas where was found Gelam were 31-33oC and 63-73% respectively. Most of areas around Gelam were grown Gelam Tikus (Syzygium inophylla) and some kind of shrubs.Key words: Gelam, potency, ecological aspects, silviculture

The coral reef ecosystem is one of the typical tropical ecosystems with high biodiversity which has an important role both biologically, ecologically, physically as well as socially and economically. Several coral reef areas in Indonesia were reported to have suffered damage, not only due to climate change which has an impact on rising sea surface temperatures and ocean acidification but also due to anthropogenic factors and irresponsible management of marine tourism. This study aimed to analyze the condition of coral reefs based on covering in Pramuka Island, which is one of the famous tourist destinations in the Seribu Islands. The study was conducted using Line Intercept Transect (LIT) method at predetermined coordinate points. The results showed that the dominant coral reef life form was Acropora Submassive (ACS), namely 18.9%, and Acropora Branching (ACB) as much as 12.48%. Besides, the types of life forms found were coral foliase (9.42%), Miliepora Coral (9.2%), Coral Massive (4.8%), Acropora Encrustring (4.24%), and so on. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the condition of coral reefs in Pramuka Island is still relatively good with a total coral cover percentage of 72.38%. Efforts to protect the coral reef ecosystem in this area need to be considered so that its condition can be maintained.
