Abstract The features of the species composition and abundance of orthoptera insects (Insecta, Orthoptera) in different stations of the Adon-Chelon locality (Daursky Biosphere Reserve, south-eastern Transbaikalia) were studied. The differences in these parameters were revealed for Orthoptera communities inhabiting different stations. The differences in the Orthoptera fauna were noted in comparison with previous studies, which may be associated with cyclical climatic changes characteristic of Southern Transbaikalia.

As part of the inventory work in the Kosobsko-Keleb Reserve in 2017–2019, the species composition was identified and the relative abundance of rodents on the south-eastern slope of the Bogos ridge was estimated. It is shown that rodents inhabit a fairly wide range of biotopes on the south-eastern slope of the Bogos ridge, which is largely predetermined by the peculiarities of their ecology and the nature of their specialization.

The article gives a classification of biotopes and analyzes the features of the biotopic distribution of nesting birds of the Karadag nature reserve (2874.2 hectares), located in the extreme east of the Main ridge of the Crimean Mountains and including the Karadag mountain group (2065.1 hectares) with the adjacent Black Sea water area (809.1 hectares). On the basis of previously developed schemes and taking into account our own research, the following main types of habitats were identified: 1) natural tree and shrub vegetation; 2) open grassy biotopes; 3) rocky landforms; 4) seashore (except for rocky forms); 5) anthropogenic biotopes. Seventy-nine bird species were recorded nesting in the reserve. Ornithocomplex of natural wood and shrub communities includes 52 species, including 40 in oak open woodlands, 21 in juniper open woodlands and 32 in forests. The ornithocomplex of rocks (13 species: 9 on seaside rocks and 10 on off-shore cliffs) is characterized by high specificity as 9 species nest exclusively in these biotopes. The ornithocomplex of open herbaceous habitats is depleted and sparsely specific (10 species, most of which are common with sparse woodlands). The species composition of nesting birds of the sea coast (ground cliffs in bays, beaches with coarse material) is extremely poor (2 species). Thus, the basis of the nesting avifauna of the reserve is formed by the species of tree-shrub and rocky biotopes (in total, 82,3 % of the species composition). These ornithocomplexes include 67–89 % of the species composition of the corresponding habitats in the eastern part of the Mountainous Crimea. On the other hand, the small area, peripheral location and isolation of the Karadag mountain group resulted in the absence of a number of rare species in these biotopes and the low abundance of some species common and numerous in other regions of Eastern Crimea. At least 37 species (46,8 % of nesting avifauna) use anthropogenic biotopes – forest plantations (21 species), park (18), buildings (11), freshwater reservoirs (2). Ten species listed in the Red Data Books of the Russian Federation (7) and Crimea (9) nest in the reserve. Most of them (7 species) inhabit rock and rock-coastal biotopes, including 4 species nesting on coastal cliffs of the Beregovaya ridge. The role of the reserve is significant for preservation of Phalacrocorax aristotelis (about 10 % of the Crimean population) and Falco peregrinus (about 7 %).

New data was added to the oribatid species composition of the Rivnensky Nature Reserve. Overall, 62 mite species were recorded for the territory of research in this study. The species Acrogalumna longipluma, Micreremus brevipes, Licneremaeus licnophorus, Oribatella reticulata, and Porobelba spinosa were not previously listed for the Western Polissia. Of the 60 species of Lower Oribatida mites that have been recorded by other authors in that area, only 18 are found again in the Rivnensky Nature Reserve, indicating that our results are intermediate. A representative of the genus Mainothrus Choi, 1996 (Mainothrus badius (Berlese, 1905)) is found in Ukraine for the first time.

Species composition of liverworts of unique natural feature of Kamchatka — Uzon Volcano caldera is listed. It includes 38 species. 29 of them are found for the first time for the Uzon caldera. Marsupella funckii, Nardia assamica, N. unispiralis included in Red Data Book of Kamchatka (2007).

The results of nomenclature-taxonomic revision of the flora marine macrophytes of the Kazantip Nature Reserve (KNR) are presented. Currently, with the new data the species composition includes 73 species and intraspecific taxon (IST) of macroalgae and sea grasses. Taxonomic structure of flora of the macrophytes of the KNR includes 4 phylums, 7 classes, 19 orders, 28 families, (F), 37 genera. Chlorophyta - 33 species, Ochrophyta - 11, Rhodophyta - 25, Tracheophyta - 4. In the flora prevail mesosaprobic (44%), annuae (58%), brackish-sea (51%), warm-water (40%) species. The category of rare fraction includes 14 species.

This article presents a historical analysis of human impact and further step-by-step nature reserve creation within the territory of the current Visimsky State Biosphere Reserve. From the end of XVII to the middle of XX centuries the ecosystem of low-mountain southern taiga forests in the Middle Ural region was strongly exploited by a local mining and metallurgical industry. The establishment of the Visim State Reserve in 1946 did not provide sustainable results but initiated research studies that laid a foundation for a subsequent preservation and the studies of the endemic taiga forests of the Middle Ural in the framework of the modern Visimsky State Biosphere Reserve. Since 1975 the science department of the reserve has conducted regular observations of the nature processes. The reserve has established long-term and efficient collaboration with the Institute of Ecology of Animals and Plants, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The joint research findings are used in practical solutions of the nature preservation in the region. This collaboration is also focused on the monitoring of the recreational pressure caused by the educational tourism.

The species composition of algae from biological soil crusts (biocrusts) on the surface of sand dunes (Black Sea coast, Primorske, Izmail District, Odesa Region, Ukraine) was investigated. Samples were collected from three coastal localities: Katranivska Spit, Zhebryianska Bay and Zhebryianska Ridge. The latter two localities are in the territory of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. The samples were investigated by direct microscopy, followed by a culture approach. 60 species from Chlorophyta (32), Cyanobacteria (16), Streptophyta (7) and Ochrophyta (5) were identified. Representatives of the cyanobacterial genera Microcoleus Desmazières ex Gomont, Coleofasciculus M.Siegesmund, J.R.Johansen & T.Friedl, Nostoc Vaucher ex Bornet & Flahault, Hassallia Berkeley ex Bornet & Flahault, and streptophytes from the genus Klebsormidium P.C.Silva, Mattox & W.H.Blackwell dominated in the studied biocrusts. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S/18S rRNA as well as 16S-23S ITS/ITS-1,2 regions were undertaken for some strains of cyanobacteria and eukaryotic algae. As a result, species identification and their position in respective phylogeny was refined, as well as aiding the discovery of some interesting and rare species. New genera and species were described (Streptosarcina arenaria Mikhailyuk & Lukešová and Tetradesmus arenicola Mikhailyuk & P.Tsarenko); with two genera (Nodosilinea R.B.Perkerson & D.A.Casamatta and Pleurastrosarcina H.J.Sluiman & P.C.J.Blommers) and four species reported for the first time for the flora of Ukraine (Nodosilinea epilithica Perkerson & Casamatta, Pseudomuriella aurantiaca (W.Vischer) N.Hanagata, Pleurochloris meiringensis Vischer, Pleurastrosarcina terriformae Darienko, W.J.Kang, Orzechowski & Pröschold). Comparison of the results from this study with similar investigations at Cape Kazantip (Sea of Azov, Ukraine) and at two islands of the Baltic Sea (Rügen, Usedom, Germany) revealed that sand composition and texture, as well as climate type of the respective region, are the main factors determining species composition of algae and cyanobacteria in biocrusts of maritime dunes.

Two magnetotelluric stations have been installed in the South-Eastern Thessaly basin (Central Greece), which have recorded the geomagnetic and geoelectric fields since 1993. The aim is to detect long lasting abnormal changes of the geoelectric field which may be due to impending earthquakes. The geoelectric recordings were checked against the climatic changes such as temperature changes and precipitation and no correlation was observed. Ten anomalies were observed with characteristics similar to seismoelectric signals which have been reported in the literature and thus we can assume that these changes constitute precursory phenomena. The duration of these signals varies from several days to a few weeks. Some of them keep on developing until the occurrence of an earthquake, and others appear like transient changes several days before. The high seismicity of the area where the stations are located creates difficulties in the correlation of the signals with certain shocks.
