A modified sol-gel method using metal nitrate salts was adopted to synthesis proton conductor of Ba(Ce1-xZrx)0.95Yb0.05O2.975 where x=0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 ceramic powders. The aim of this work is to study the crystal structure of Yb-doped barium cerate solid solution at different Zr concentrations. The powder was calcined at 1100°C for 12 hours and pressed at 5 tons to become a pellet by a dry pressing technique. The pellet was sintered at 1400°C in air for 6 hours and ground to powder form prior to the X-ray diffraction measurement. The raw diffraction data of the sample at room temperature was analyzed using Rietveld refinement method in X’pert Highscore software. Cubic crystal structure was observed by software with goodness of fit in average 2.82. Phase formation, structure analysis and the empirical rule which holds the linear relation between lattice parameters at different Zr concentrations using Vegard’s Law were also presented and discussed.

Nitrogen-doped TiO2 has a great potential as a photocatalyst under visible light irradiation with applications in the removal of air and water pollutants, and the treatment of bacterial contaminations. In this study, nitrogen-doped TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized via the sol–gel method and a post-annealing heat treatment approach. The effects of annealing treatment on the photocatalyst crystalline size and degree of crystallinity were analyzed. Methylene blue dye was used as the model water contaminant for the evaluation of the photoactivity of the synthesized nitrogen-doped TiO2 nanoparticles. The degradation of methylene blue was attributed to three mechanisms, i.e., adsorption, photocatalysis, and direct light photolysis. A kinetic model was developed to distinguish the impact of these three different mechanisms on the removal of contaminants. Adsorption and photocatalysis are heterogeneous processes for removing water organic contaminants. The characterization analysis demonstrates that they are relevant to the microstructures and surface chemical compositions of nitrogen-doped TiO2 photocatalysts. The processing–structure–performance relationship helped to determine the optimal processing parameters for nitrogen-doped TiO2 photocatalyst to achieve the best performance. While we used methylene blue as the model contaminant, the generalized quantitative model framework developed in this study can be extended to other types of contaminants after proper calibration.

Synthesis of dimerkaptosilica coated magnetite was carried out in several stages, namely synthesis of magnetite from FeCl3.6H2O and FeSO4.7H2O by coprecipitation method. Extraction of sodium silicate from rice husk ash as a source of silica. Coating magnetite by dimerkaptosilica using 2,3-dimercapto-1-propanol as a source of mercapto groups and sodium silicate as sources of silica. Coating is done by the sol-gel method. FTIR characterization showed the appearance of uptake at wave numbers 894,04 cm-1, 2951,22 cm-1 and 3655,26 cm-1 from several absorbances which also appeared in magnetite material spectra indicating ―SH, ―CH2 and ―OH groups. XRD characterization was characterized by the appearance of a peak at 2θ, which was 35,43° and SEM characterization showed that the material Fe3O4―DMS had a morphological shape in the form of round clumps forming gray-colored aggregates.
