ABSTRACT Fractured formations are strongly heterogenous, and thus exhibit a complex logging response mechanism. By using the logging while drilling (LWD) resistivity imaging tool, fractures can be visually identified and their aperture quantitatively calculated. Because physical fracture model simulation is time consuming and costly, we propose using a 3D finite element method (FEM) numerical simulation to interpret the LWD resistivity imaging tool logging responses in conjunction with a new aperture calculation model based on the forward model. First, we used the single fracture model to investigate the effect of fracture aperture and formation resistivity contrast on the maximum current contrast at the fracture. The results showed that the aperture is linearly related to the maximum current contrast, while the formation resistivity contrast exhibits a pronounced exponential relationship with the maximum current contrast. Both of these relationships are affected by the fracture's dip angle, so segmented fitting is required when the fracture dip angles differ. Next, using the forward model, we developed the fracture aperture calculation model based on the maximum current contrast. The aperture calculation model was established in three segments in accordance with the different fracture dips, and the influence factors affecting the fracture inverting inclination were analyzed using multi-fracture simulation images. Finally, the accuracy of the new model was verified with the simulated fracture images. The novel model for calculating fracture aperture is of great significance for processing and interpreting LWD resistivity imaging logging data.

According to the structure and working principle of rotary air preheater, the heat transfer calculation model is set up with reasonable simplification. Combining with the design parameters of the rotary air preheater of a 400 t/h pulverized coal boiler unit ,the results of practical calculation show that the said thermodynamic calculation method not only has higher precision of calculation, but also can get the temperature distributions of the gas, air and heat surface in each cross-section of the rotary air preheater. The result of numerical simulation calculation tallies well with the original designed data. It can be used for the heat calculation both two-sectorial and three-sectorial air heater; it can be used for performance analysis of the regenerative air heater.

In order to guide the field application of hydraulic fracturing of soft coal in coal mine, based on the elastic-plastic damage theory, the coupling numerical model of soft coal hydraulic fracturing seepage was studied. The porosity strain relationship equation, permeability strain relationship equation, the relationship between permeability and volume plastic tensile strain and volume plastic shear strain of coal and rock mass are derived, and the plastic correction equation and softening parameters are defined. The stress coupling equation and yield criterion are programmed and embedded into the finite difference software FLAC3D for numerical solution. The numerical simulation shows that the numerical calculation model of soft coal hydraulic fracturing conforms to the actual law, and the field fracturing radius investigation experiment is consistent with the numerical simulation results.
