AbstractPerceptual decisions are biased toward higher-value options when overall gains can be improved. When stimuli demand immediate reactions, the neurophysiological decision process dynamically evolves through distinct phases of growing anticipation, detection and discrimination, but how value biases are exerted through these phases remains unknown. Here, by parsing motor preparation dynamics in human electrophysiology, we uncovered a multiphasic pattern of countervailing biases operating in speeded decisions. Anticipatory preparation of higher-value actions began earlier, conferring a “starting point”-advantage at stimulus onset, but the delayed preparation of lower-value actions was steeper, conferring a value-opposed buildup rate bias. This, in turn, was countered by a transient deflection toward the higher value action evoked by stimulus detection. A neurally-constrained process model featuring anticipatory urgency, biased detection, and accumulation of growing stimulus-discriminating evidence, successfully captured both behavior and motor preparation dynamics. Thus, an intricate interplay of distinct biasing mechanisms serves to prioritise time-constrained perceptual decisions.

Pacman is one of the labyrinth-shaped games where this game has used artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence is composed of several algorithms that are inserted in the program and Implementation of the dijkstra algorithm as a method of solving problems that is a minimum route problem on ghost pacman, where ghost plays a role chase player. The dijkstra algorithm uses a principle similar to the greedy algorithm where it starts from the first point and the next point is connected to get to the destination, how to compare numbers starting from the starting point and then see the next node if connected then matches one path with the path). From the results of the testing phase, it was found that the dijkstra algorithm is quite good at solving the minimum route solution to pursue the player, namely by getting a value of 13 according to manual calculations

 The classic brand design literature presents and illustrates best practices in developing the physical, graphical and semiotic aspects of a brand. However, both practitioners and academics outline that brand design is only the starting point of the brand strategy, which has to be completed and complemented by designing and effectively managing meaningful brand experiences. The success of the brand depends on a value co-creation process in which the intentions and offerings of producers and vendors encounter, and interact with, the customer experiences of the brand and of the associated product. A brand experience designed for the customer can therefore be multi-dimensional and not just product led.

Humans make thousands of decisions each day. Most of the decisions we make are trivial or relatively unimportant in possible consequences. However, there are a few decisions we make in life that are lifechanging; one of those is the decision to retire from the professoriate. Voluntarily deciding to leave a profession where one has spent a substantial portion of one’s working life is one of life’s major decisions. This qualitative research looks at the various influences, actions, and feelings through the process of deciding to retire. Using a five-stage cognitive decision-process model as a framework, this paper reports on the reflections of 20 recent retirees over the five stages of the decision process from when first seriously considering the decision to postretirement activities and feelings. The results show that while all faculty progressed through the five stages, the timeframe, influences, feelings, and actions were unique to each individual.

The conversion of web services to semantic web comes the opportunity to automate various tasks. OWL-S plays a key role in describing web services behaviour. While ontology-based semantics given to OWL-S is structural rather than behaviourally oriented, we cannot automate an essential task in this field, verification. In this article, the mapping of OWL-S process model to Timed automata is investigated, which is a suitable formalism for real time systems modeling and automatic verification. Hence, this has led to not only enabling automatic verification but also covering problems related to automated verification of temporal quantitative properties as bounded liveness property. As a starting point, the OWL-S and sub entry of time ontologies for describing the timed behaviour of services has been chosen. A defined set of mapping rules is used to automatically encode control constructs defined in OWL-S and temporal information into timed automata. Also, it is shown how a Uppaal checker is used to check required properties formulated in TCTL. Finally, an EClinic case study is used to illustrate the technique.

Purpose Patterns have proven to be useful for documenting general reusable solutions to a commonly occurring problem. In recent years, several different business process management (BPM)-related patterns have been published. Despite the large number of publications on this subject, there is no work that provides a comprehensive overview and categorization of the published business process model patterns. The purpose of this paper is to close this gap by providing a taxonomy of patterns as well as a classification of 89 research works. Design/methodology/approach The authors analyzed 280 research articles following a structured iterative procedure inspired by the method for taxonomy development from Nickerson et al. (2013). Using deductive and inductive reasoning processes embedded in concurrent as well as joint research activities, the authors created a taxonomy of patterns as well as a classification of 89 research works. Findings In general, the findings extend the current understanding of BPM patterns. The authors identify pattern categories that are highly populated with research works as well as categories that have received far less attention such as risk and security, the ecological perspective and process architecture. Further, the analysis shows that there is not yet an overarching pattern language for business process model patterns. The insights can be used as starting point for developing such a pattern language. Originality/value Up to now, no comprehensive pattern taxonomy and research classification exists. The taxonomy and classification are useful for searching pattern works which is also supported by an accompanying website complementing the work. In regard to future research and publications on patterns, the authors derive recommendations regarding the content and structure of pattern publications.


Fulcher’s discovery of bands in the secondary spectrum of hydrogen at low pressures proved the starting point of a number of investigations, including those, based on the valuable tables of Merton and Barratt, which have been carried out in the University of St. Andrews. The application of the quantum theory to these bands has been discussed by one of us (H. S. A.), by Curtis, and in particular by Richardson who, partly in association with Tanaka, has added greatly to the number of known regularities and done much to bring them into line with the theory of band spectra. Nevertheless, apart from the Fulcher system, of which Richardson has recently given a very complete account, there remains a very large number of lines which have not yet been classified. One of the present writers (I. S.) has been engaged in a study of the secondary spectrum at higher pressures, and among the regularities which have been selected by this method is a band with head at 4582·58 A. U. and shading towards the violet, which has been described in a recent communication. This band yielded an initial moment of inertia agreeing closely with a value deduced from a static model of triatomic hydrogen, H 3 . This band has since been found to be one of a large number of similar bands which it will be the purpose of this paper to describe. We shall refer to it for convenience as “Band II A , a .”

AbstractIn noisy but stationary environments, decisions should be based on the temporal integration of sequentially sampled evidence. This strategy has been supported by many behavioral studies and is qualitatively consistent with neural activity in multiple brain areas. By contrast, decision-making in the face of non-stationary sensory evidence remains poorly understood. Here, we trained monkeys to identify and respond via saccade to the dominant color of a dynamically refreshed bicolor patch that becomes informative after a variable delay. Animals’ behavioral responses were briefly suppressed after evidence changes, and many neurons in the frontal eye field displayed a corresponding dip in activity at this time, similar to that frequently observed after stimulus onset but sensitive to stimulus strength. Generalized drift-diffusion models revealed consistency of behavior and neural activity with brief suppression of motor output, but not with pausing or resetting of evidence accumulation. These results suggest that momentary arrest of motor preparation is important for dynamic perceptual decision making.
