Resonant nonlinear optical absorption of silver nanoparticles was studied experimentally via open aperture Z-scan using 130 fs, 400 nm laser pulses. Experimental results show that, at low laser intensity, silver nanoparticles can exhibit saturated absorption. While at high laser intensity, it shows reverse saturated absorption. The saturable absorption is explained in terms of ground state plasmon bleaching, while the reverse saturable absorption is believed to be from two-photon absorption. Saturable optical intensity and two-photon absorption coefficient were obtained to be 1.3×1010 W/m2 and 3.3×10−10 m/W, respectively. The energy relaxation process of Ag nanoparticles after laser excitation was studied via pump-probe technique at 400 nm. Experimental results demonstrated that energy relaxation included electron-phonon coupling process with time constant τ1=(713±50) fs, and phonon-phonon coupling process with time constant τ2=(25.2±3) ps, respectively.

In this work, we successfully achieved wafer-scale low density InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) for single photon emitter on three-inch wafer by precisely controlling the growth parameters. The highly uniform InAs/GaAs QDs show low density of μ0.96/μm2 within the radius of 2 cm. When embedding into a circular Bragg grating cavity on highly efficient broadband reflector (CBR-HBR), the single QDs show excellent optoelectronic properties with the linewidth of 3± 0.08 GHz, the second-order correlation factor g2(τ)=0.0322 ±0.0023, and an exciton life time of 323 ps under two-photon resonant excitation.

AbstractMulti-resonant plasmonic simple geometries like nanocylinders and nanorods are highly interesting for two-photon photoluminescence and second harmonic generation applications, due to their easy fabrication and reproducibility in comparison with complex multi-resonant systems like dimers or nanoclusters. We demonstrate experimentally that by using a simple gold nanocylinder we can achieve a double resonantly enhanced two-photon photoluminescence of quantum dots, by matching the excitation wavelength of the quantum dots with a dipolar plasmon mode, while the emission is coupled with a radiative quadrupolar mode. We establish a method to separate experimentally the enhancement factor at the excitation and at the emission wavelengths for this double resonant system. The sensitivity of the spectral positions of the dipolar and quadrupolar plasmon resonances to the ellipticity of the nanocylinders and its impact on the two-photon photoluminescence enhancement are discussed.
