Abstract Measurements of the differential cross sections of Z + jets and γ + jets production, and their ratio, are presented as a function of the boson transverse momentum. Measurements are also presented of the angular distribution between the Z boson and the closest jet. The analysis is based on pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The results, corrected for detector effects, are compared with various theoretical predictions. In general, the predictions at higher orders in perturbation theory show better agreement with the measurements. This work provides the first measurement of the ratio of the differential cross sections of Z + jets and γ + jets production at 13 TeV, as well as the first direct measurement of Z bosons emitted collinearly with a jet.

We present a closed-form description that enables us to obtain the analytical expressions for the elastic scattering and dissociation differential cross-sections of deuterons and 3H-nuclei by heavy target nuclei. The resulting expressions are used to analyze the data for the 110 MeV deuterons elastically scattered on 208Pb-nuclei. The dissociation cross-sections of deuterons and 3H-nuclei are the oscillating functions of the scattering angle of the released two- and three-nucleon-particle system center-of-mass.

The stereodynamics of the title reaction on the ground electronic state X2A' potential energy surface (PES)1 has been studied using the quasiclassical trajectory (QCT) method. The commonly used polarization-dependent differential cross-sections (PDDCSs) of the product and the angular momentum alignment distribution, P(θr) and P(Φr), are generated in the center-of-mass frame using QCT method to gain insight of the alignment and orientation of the product molecules. Influence of collision energy on the stereodynamics is shown and discussed. The results reveal that the distribution of P(θr) and P(Φr) is sensitive to collision energy. The PDDCSs exhibit different collision energy dependency relationship at low and high collision energy ranges.

The total cross sections of the 12C+16O fusion have been experimentally determined at low energies to investigate the role of this reaction during late stellar evolution burning phases. A high-intensity oxygen beam was produced by the 5MV pelletron accelerator at the University of Notre Dame impinging on a thick ultra-pure graphite target. Protons and γ-rays were measured simultaneously in the center-of-mass energy range from 3.64 to 5.01 MeV, using strip silicon and HPGe detectors. Statistical model calculations were employed to interpret the experimental results. A new broad resonance-like structure is observed for the 12C+16O reaction, and a decreasing trend of its S-factor towards low energies is found.

Long bone diaphyseal cross-sectional geometries reflect the mechanical properties of the bones, and can be used to aid in inferences of locomotor behavior in extinct hominins. This chapter considers all available long bone diaphyseal and femoral neck cross-sections of specimens from Sterkfontein Member 4, and presents comparisons of these section properties and other cross-sectional dimensions with those of other early hominins as well as modern samples. The cross-sectional geometry of the Sterkfontein Member 4 long bone specimens suggests some similarities to, but also interesting differences in, mechanical loading of these elements relative to modern humans. The less asymmetric cortical bone distribution in the Sterkfontein femoral necks is consistent with other evidence above indicating an altered gait pattern involving lateral displacement of the body center of mass over the stance limb. The relatively very strong upper limb of StW 431 implies that arboreal behavior formed a significant component of its locomotor repertoire. Bipedal gait may have been less efficient and arboreal climbing more prevalent in the Sterkfontein hominins.

The Higgs boson was discovered on the 4th of July 2012 with a mass around 125 GeV by ATLAS and CMS experiments at LHC. Determining the Higgs properties (production and decay modes, couplings,...) is an important part of the high-energy physics programme in this decade. A search for the Higgs boson production in association with a top quark pair (tt̄H) at ATLAS [1] is summarized in this paper at an unexplored center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, which could allow a first direct measurement of the top quark Yukawa coupling and could reveal new physics. The tt̄H analysis in ATLAS is divided into 3 channels according to the Higgs decay modes: H → Hadrons, H → Leptons and H → Photons. The best-fit value of the ratio of observed and Standard Model cross sections of tt̄H production process, using 2015-2016 data and combining all tt̄H final states, is 1:8±0:7, corresponds to 2:8σ (1:8σ) observed (expected) significance.

The spectroscopic factor (SF) of doubly-magic nuclei, neutron shell closed and neutron-rich nuclei has been determined through ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text]) reaction in the projectile energy range from 3 to 26[Formula: see text]MeV. The theoretical angular differential cross-sections of ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] reactions in scattering center-of-mass angles from [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text] have been calculated using FRESCO and NRV-DWUCK5 codes. By comparing the theoretical angular differential cross-sections with available experimental angular differential cross-sections, the values of SF have been determined. The exponential increase of SF as a function of neutron separation energy normalized by spin of the recoil nuclei has been shown for the first time for doubly-magic nuclei. The similar type of trend has also been observed for neutron-rich as well as neutron shell closed nuclei as a function of neutron separation energy normalized by asymmetric factor of recoil nucleus. More experimental data are required to verify the trend predicted by this investigation.

The excited compound nucleus 17O* has been studied over (n,α) and (α,n) cross sections modelling, respectively for 16O and 13C targets in their ground states. The modelling is fulfilled within the Reich-Moore formalism. We were able to calculate the (α,n) cross section by two separate ways: the direct kinematic standard route and by inversion of the (n,α) cross section using the compound nucleus hypothesis. Resonance parameters of the resolved resonance range (0 to 6 MeV) were borrowed from the CIELO project. In a first stage, the modelling is carried out in the referential of the incident particle (either way neutron or α) requesting conversion of the CIELO neutron-type resonance parameters to the α-type. In a second stage, the implementation is uniquely designed in the center of mass system of the excited compound nucleus. The resonance parameters are thus converted in that unique reference framework. The present investigation shows the consistency of the kinetic transformation that relies on the compound nucleus hypothesis.
