We numerically calculate the quasinormal frequencies of the Klein-Gordon and Dirac fields propagating in a two-dimensional asymptotically anti-de Sitter black hole of the dilaton gravity theory. For the Klein-Gordon field we use the Horowitz-Hubeny method and the asymptotic iteration method for second order differential equations. For the Dirac field we first exploit the Horowitz-Hubeny method. As a second method, instead of using the asymptotic iteration method for second order differential equations, we propose to take as a basis its formulation for coupled systems of first order differential equations. For the two fields we find that the results that produce the two numerical methods are consistent. Furthermore for both fields we obtain that their quasinormal modes are stable and we compare their quasinormal frequencies to analyze whether their spectra are isospectral. Finally we discuss the main results.

All thermodynamic quantities of the Reissner–Nordström (RN) black hole can be obtained from the dilaton and its potential of two-dimensional (2D) dilaton gravity. The dual relations of four thermodynamic laws are also established. Furthermore, the near-horizon thermodynamics of the extremal RN black hole is completely described by the Jackiw–Teitelboim theory which is obtained by perturbing around the AdS2-horizon.

In this paper we reformulate the dilaton-gravity theory of Callan et al. as a new effective conformal field theory which turns out to be a generalization of the so-called SL 2-conformal affine Toda (CAT) theory studied some time ago by Babelon and Bonora. We quantize this model, thus keeping in account the dilaton-gravity quantum effects. We then implement a Renormalization Group analysis to study the black hole thermodynamics and the final state of the Hawking evaporation.

Recently, models of two-dimensional dilaton gravity have been shown to admit classical black hole solutions that exhibit Hawking radiation at the semiclassical level. These classical and semiclassical analyzes have been performed in conformal gauge. We show in this paper that a similar analysis in the light-cone gauge leads to the same results. Moreover, quantization of matter fields in light-cone gauge can be naturally extended to include quantizing the metric field à la KPZ. We argue that this may provide a new framework to address many issues associated to black hole physics.

In two-dimensional dilaton gravity theories, there may exist a global Weyl invariance which makes the black hole spurious. If the global invariance and the local Weyl invariance of the matter coupling are intact at the quantum level, there is no Hawking radiation. We explicitly verify the absence of anomalies in these symmetries for the model proposed by Callan, Giddings, Harvey and Strominger. The crucial observation is that the conformal anomaly can be cohomologically trivial and so not truly anomalous in such dilaton gravity models.

We construct higher-dimensional and exact black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theory. The strategy we adopted is to extend the known, static and spherically symmetric black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell dilaton gravity and Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theory. Then we investigate the black hole thermodynamics. Concretely, the generalized Smarr formula and the first law of thermodynamics are derived.

We discuss the two-dimensional dilaton gravity with a scalar field as the source matter where the coupling with gravity is given, besides the minimal one, trough an external field. This coupling generalizes the conformal anomaly in the same way as those found in recent literature, but with a different motivation. The modification to the Hawking radiation is calculated explicitly and show an additional term that introduces a dependence on the (effective) mass of the black-hole.

Dynamical time variables are studied in two dimensional gravity theory. Dynamical time and space variables exchange their role at the maximum radius (amax) like a black hole at event horizon. Dynamical arrows of time are directed towards amax in both expanding and contracting phases. Both time flows cannot go beyond amax, and the universe becomes static at amax.
