Aminobenzoic acid derivatives are widely used in the preparation of new coordination polymers since they contain O-atom donors, as well as N-atom donors, and have a rich variety of coordination modes which can lead to polymers with intriguing structures and interesting properties. Two new coordination polymers incorporating 1-aminobenzene-3,4,5-tricarboxylic acid (H3abtc), namely, poly[(μ3-1-amino-5-carboxybenzene-3,4-dicarboxylato)diaquacadmium(II)], [Cd(C9H5NO6)(H2O)2] n , (I), and poly[[bis(μ5-1-aminobenzene-3,4,5-tricarboxylato)triaquatrizinc(II)] dihydrate], {[Zn3(C9H4NO6)2(H2O)3]·2H2O} n , (II), have been prepared and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In polymer (I), each tridentate 1-amino-5-carboxybenzene-3,4-dicarboxylate (Habtc2−) ligand coordinates to three CdII ions to form a two-dimensional network structure, in which all of the CdII ions and Habtc2− ligands are equivalent, respectively. Polymer (II) also exhibits a two-dimensional network structure, in which three crystallographically independent ZnII ions are bridged by two crystallographically independent pentadentate 1-aminobenzene-3,4,5-tricarboxylate (abtc3−) ligands. This indicates that changing the metal ion can influence the coordination mode of the H3abtc-derived ligand and further influence the detailed architecture of the polymer. Moreover, the IR spectra, thermogravimetric analyses and fluorescence properties were investigated.

The FeIII ion as a ubiquitous metal plays a key role in biochemical processes. Iron deficiency or excess in the human body can induce various diseases. Thus, effective detection of the FeIII ion has been deemed an issue of focus. To develop more crystalline chemical sensors for the selective detection of Fe3+, two novel two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymers, namely, poly[[[μ-bis(pyridin-4-yl)amine-κ2 N:N′](μ-naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylato-κ2 O 2:O 6)zinc(II)] 0.5-hydrate], {[Zn(C12H6O4)(C10H9N3)]·0.5H2O} n , 1, and poly[(4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine-κ2 N,N′)(μ-naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylato-κ2 O 2:O 6)hemi(μ-naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid-κ2 O 2:O 6)copper(II)] [Cu(C12H6O4)(C12H12N2)(C12H8O4)0.5] n , 2, have been prepared using solvothermal methods. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that compound 1 is an undulating twofold interpenetrated 2D (4,4)-sql network and compound 2 is a twofold interpenetrated 2D honeycomb-type network with a (6,3)-hcb topology. In addition, 1 exhibits highly selective sensing for the Fe3+ ion.

With the rapid development of modern industry, water pollution has become an intractable environmental issue facing humans worldwide. In particular, the organic dyes discharged into natural water from dyestuffs, dyeing and the textile industry are the main sources of pollution in wastewater. To eliminate these types of pollutants, degradation of organic contaminants through a photocatalytic technique is an effective methodology. To exploit more crystalline photocatalysts for the degradation of organic dyes, two coordination polymers, namely catena-poly[[(3,5-dicarboxybenzene-1-carboxylato-κO 1)silver(I)]-μ-trans-1-(pyridin-3-yl)-2-(pyridin-4-yl)ethene-κ2 N:N′], [Ag(C9H5O6)(C12H10N2)] n or [Ag(H2BTC)(3,4′-bpe)] n , (I), and poly[[(μ3-5-carboxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato-κ4 O 1,O 1′:O 3:O 3)[μ-trans-1-(pyridin-3-yl)-2-(pyridin-4-yl)ethene-κ2 N:N′]cadmium(II)] monohydrate], {[Cd(C9H4O6)(C12H10N2)]·H2O} n or {[Cd(HBTC)(3,4′-bpe)]·H2O} n , (II), have been prepared by the hydrothermal reactions of benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (H3BTC) and trans-1-(pyridin-3-yl)-2-(pyridin-4-yl)ethene (3,4′-bpe) in the presence of AgNO3 or Cd(NO3)2·4H2O, respectively. These two title compounds have been structurally characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and powder X-ray diffraction. In (I), the AgI ions and organic ligands form a one-dimensional coordination chain, and adjacent coordination chains are connected by Ag...O interactions to give rise to a two-dimensional supramolecular network. Each two-dimensional network is entangled with other equivalent networks to generate an infrequent interlocked 2D→3D (2D and 3D are two- and three-dimensional, respectively) supramolecular framework. In (II), the CdII ions are bridged by the HBTC2− and 3,4′-bpe ligands, which lie across centres of inversion, to give a two-dimensional coordination network. The thermal stabilities and photocatalytic properties of the title compounds have also been studied.

The new coordination polymers (CPs) [Zn(μ-1κO1:1κO2-L)(H2O)2]n·n(H2O) (1) and [Cd(μ4-1κO1O2:2κN:3,4κO3-L)(H2O)]n·n(H2O) (2) are reported, being prepared by the solvothermal reactions of 5-{(pyren-4-ylmethyl)amino}isophthalic acid (H2L) with Zn(NO3)2.6H2O or Cd(NO3)2.4H2O, respectively. They were synthesized in a basic ethanolic medium or a DMF:H2O mixture, respectively. These compounds were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and elemental analysis. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that compound 1 is a one dimensional linear coordination polymer, whereas 2 presents a two dimensional network. In both compounds, the coordinating ligand (L2−) is twisted due to the rotation of the pyrene ring around the CH2-NH bond. In compound 1, the Zn(II) metal ion has a tetrahedral geometry, whereas, in 2, the dinuclear [Cd2(COO)2] moiety acts as a secondary building unit and the Cd(II) ion possesses a distorted octahedral geometry. Recently, several CPs have been explored for the cyanosilylation reaction under conventional conditions, but microwave-assisted cyanosilylation of aldehydes catalyzed by CPs has not yet been well studied. Thus, we have tested the solvent-free microwave-assisted cyanosilylation reactions of different aldehydes, with trimethylsilyl cyanide, using our synthesized compounds, which behave as highly active heterogeneous catalysts. The coordination polymer 1 is more effective than 2, conceivably due to the higher Lewis acidity of the Zn(II) than the Cd(II) center and to a higher accessibility of the metal centers in the former framework. We have also checked the heterogeneity and recyclability of these coordination polymers, showing that they remain active at least after four recyclings.

The development of straightforward reproducible methods for the preparation of new photoluminescent coordination polymers (CPs) is an important goal in luminescence and chemical sensing fields. Isophthalic acid derivatives have been reported for a wide range of applications, and in addition to their relatively low cost, have encouraged its use in the preparation of novel lanthanide-based coordination polymers (LnCPs). Considering that the photoluminescent properties of these CPs are highly dependent on the existence of water molecules in the crystal structure, our research efforts are now focused on the preparation of CP with the lowest water content possible, while considering a green chemistry approach. One- and two-dimensional (1D and 2D) LnCPs were prepared from 5-aminoisophthalic acid and Sm3+/Tb3+ using hydrothermal and/or microwave-assisted synthesis. The unprecedented LnCPs were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCRXD), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and their photoluminescence (PL) properties were studied in the solid state, at room temperature, using the CPs as powders and encapsulated in poly(methyl methacrylate (PMMA) films, envisaging the potential preparation of devices for sensing. The materials revealed interesting PL properties that depend on the dimensionality, metal ion, co-ligand used and water content.

AbstractBased on 2-(4-pyridyl)-terephthalate (H2pta) and oxalate ligands, two new lanthanide-containing coordination polymers (CPs), [Tb(pta)(C2O4)0.5(H2O)2)]·2H2O (1) and [Sm(pta)(C2O4)0.5(H2O)2)]·2H2O (2), have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions. The structures of both 1 and 2 have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Infrared, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis data are also presented. The crystals of 1 and 2 exhibit isostructural layer-like networks, crystallizing in the triclinic space group P$‾{1}$. The layers are further stabilized and associated into 3D architectures through hydrogen bonding. Remarkably, the CPs 1 and 2 exhibit excellent water stability and remarkable thermostability with thermal decomposition temperatures of more than 420 °C.

In recent years, much initial interest and enthusiasm has focused on the self-assembly of coordination polymers due to the aesthetics of their crystalline architectures and their potential applications as new functional materials. As part of an exploration of chiral coordination polymers, a new twofold interpenetrated two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer, namely, poly[[tetraaquabis[μ3-(2R,2′R)-2,2′-(benzene-1,4-dicarboxamido)dipropionato-κ5 O,O′:O′′,O′′′:O′′]dicadmium(II)] trihydrate], {[Cd2(C14H14N2O6)2(H2O)4]·3H2O} n , has been synthesized by the reaction of Cd(CH3COO)2·2H2O with the designed ligand (2R,2′R)-2,2′-(benzene-1,4-dicarboxamido)dipropionic acid (H2 L). The compound has been structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In the crystal structure, each CdII cation binds to three carboxylate groups from two crystallographically independent L 2− dianions. Four carboxylate groups link two crystallographically independent cadmium cations into a 4,4-connected secondary building unit (SBU). The resulting SBUs are extended into a two-dimensional folding sheet via the terephthalamide moiety of the ligand as a spacer, which can be simplified as a (4,4)-connected 4,4L15 net with the point symbol (3.53.62)(32.52.62). In the lattice, two independent folding sheets interpenetrate each other to yield a double-sheet layer. The resulting 2D layers pack in parallel arrays through intermolecular hydrogen bonds and interlayer π–π interactions. The thermal stability and photoluminescence properties of the title compound have been investigated and it exhibits an enhanced fluorescence emission and a longer lifetime compared with free H2 L.

The complexes Mn(Cl3CCOO)2(4,4′-bpy) (1) and [Cu2(ClCH2COO)(2,2′-bpy)2(OH)(H2O)]-(NO3)2(2) (bpy = bipyridine) were generated under mild reaction conditions and characterized by IR spectra, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 exhibits a two-dimensional network with octahedrally coordinated Mn(II) atoms linked by 4,4′-bpy ligands and Cl3COO− ligands. Two new coordination polymers, namely, {[Cd3(bpt)2(bimb)2]·2(H2O)}n (1) and [Zn3(bpt)2(bimb)2]n (2) (bpt = biphenyl-3,4′,5-tricarboxylate, bimb = 1,4-bis(1-imidazol-yl)-2,5-dimethyl benzene), have been obtained under hydrothermal conditions. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further characterised by elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy. Complex 1 exhibits a trinodal (4,4,4)-connected topology with Schläfli symbol of (4.62.83)4.(64.82). Complex 2 is also a three-dimensional structure and displays a (3,4,6)-connected topology with Schläfli symbol of (4.62)2.(42.66.85.102).(64.82). It is shown that the asymmetrically tricarboxylate can bear diverse structures regulated by metal ions. The photoluminescence behaviours of compounds 1 and 2 were also discussed.

The title two-dimensional coordination polymer, [Na(C2H8NO6P2)]n, was characterized using powder X-ray diffraction data and its structure refined using the Rietveld method. The asymmetric unit contains one Na+cation and one (1-azaniumylethane-1,1-diyl)bis(hydrogen phosphonate) anion. The central Na+cation exhibits distorted octahedral coordination geometry involving two deprotonated O atoms, two hydroxy O atoms and two double-bonded O atoms of the bisphosphonate anion. Pairs of sodium-centred octahedra share edges and the pairs are in turn connected to each other by the biphosphonate anion to form a two-dimensional network parallel to the (001) plane. The polymeric layers are connected by strong O—H...O hydrogen bonding between the hydroxy group and one of the free O atoms of the bisphosphonate anion to generate a three-dimensional network. Further stabilization of the crystal structure is achived by N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonding.<!?tpb=18.7pt>
