PurposeHospital accreditation has been adopted internationally as a way and solution for healthcare quality improvement in hospitals. The purpose of this study was to review and knowledge mapping of bibliographic data about “Hospital Accreditation” and assess the current quantitative trends.Design/methodology/approachScientometric methods and knowledge visualization using the coword analysis techniques conducted in three steps based on the data related to the field of hospital accreditation from 1975 to 2018 obtained from the MEDLINE database. Bibliographic data for titles, abstracts and keywords articles were saved in CSV format and MEDLINE templates by applying filters. Data extracted were exported into an Excel spreadsheet and were preprocessed. The authors applied the text mining and visualization using VOSviewer software.FindingsHospital accreditation studies have been increased rapidly over the past 30 years. 6,661 documents in the field of hospital accreditation had been published from 1975 to 2018. Hospitals or organizations active in the field of hospital accreditation were in the United States, Italy and Canada. The 10 most productive authors identified in the area of hospital accreditation with a higher influence were identified. “The United States”, “accreditation”, “Joint commission on accreditation” and “quality assurance, healthcare” had, respectively, the highest frequency. The cluster analysis identified and categorized them into four major clusters. Hospital accreditation field had a close relationship with the quality improvement, patient safety, risk and standards.Originality/valueHospital accreditation had focused on the scopes of implementation of accreditation programs, adherence to JCI standards, and focus on safety and quality improvement. Future studies are recommended to be conducted on design interventions and paying attention to all dimensions of hospital accreditation.

PurposeAs an industry, sport business (SB) has seen significant growth since the early 2000s. Concurrently, the number of postsecondary sport management programs has also expanded dramatically. However, there remain concerns about whether these programs are meeting the demands of both employers and graduates. To address these concerns, this study examines the credential and competency demands of the SB labor market in the United States.Design/methodology/approachResearchers conducted an analysis using a broad sample of employment postings (N = 613) for SB positions from two different years, 2008 and 2018.FindingsResults support that a complex set of SB qualifications exist, and the credentials and competencies included in SB employment postings have evolved over the past decade.Originality/valueA noteworthy finding is that meta-skills are found to be particularly important for employability, including items such as communication, emotional intelligence and analytical thinking and adaptability.

Significance US natural gas prices have surged over the past six weeks thanks to falling supply, strong demand from the power sector and rising exports. The uptick in prices has provided a glimmer of hope to gas producers in the United States, hard hit by a prolonged slump in prices. Impacts Declining gas production and rising demand will mean increased pipeline imports from Canada over the coming months. Mexico will pay higher prices for US natural gas imports as the Henry Hub benchmark, potentially hitting demand. US producers that have more gas-producing assets in their portfolio will benefit from rising prices.

Significance In October, Netanyahu travelled to Oman -- the first visit there by an Israeli premier in decades. In the past few years, relations between Israel and most of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states have warmed, but this has not been publicised. More recently, GCC states have become less concerned whether their relations with Israel become public knowledge. Meanwhile, the United States is encouraging rapprochement as one of the anchors of its Middle East policy. Impacts Netanyahu may soon visit Bahrain, the first public visit by an Israeli leader to the country. Relations with Qatar will follow a separate track to other Gulf states. A political opening would create economic opportunities.

Significance On March 12, Cairo announced a 2-billion-dollar deal to buy advanced fighter jets from Russia. This comes against the background of new data showing that Egypt has climbed to third place in the world in a ranking of arms imports over the past five years. Impacts Diversification of Egypt’s procurement away from the United States will reduce Washington’s political leverage. The Egyptian armed forces’ prestige will be enhanced by the arms build-up. Gulf funders may exert pressure on Egypt to deploy its enhanced military muscle in support of conflicts in which they are engaged.

ABSTRACTWe conducted a retrospective study of 2,149 clinicalSalmonellastrains to help document the historical emergence of antimicrobial resistance. There were significant increases in resistance to older drugs, including ampicillin, chloramphenicol, streptomycin, sulfamethoxazole, and tetracycline, which were most common inSalmonella entericaserotype Typhimurium. An increase in multidrug resistance was observed for each decade since the 1950s. These data help show howSalmonellaevolved over the past 6 decades, after the introduction of new antimicrobial agents.

Significance Though the United States and South Sudan have a long history, the surprise election of Donald Trump could shift Washington’s posture towards Juba. The deepening crisis there has soured a a once-close relationship. Impacts US Africa policy may be determined in large part by Trump’s personnel picks for senior Africa posts. As observers warn of possible genocide, a US government in transition will find itself ill-prepared to respond. The proposed 4,000-strong Regional Protection Force may find less support from the new administration. US humanitarian funding levels should remain high despite potential policy changes.

Subject Prospect for artificial intelligence applications. Significance Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly those using 'deep learning', have in the past five years helped to automate many tasks previously outside the capabilities of computers. There are signs that the feverish pace of progress seen recently is slowing. Impacts Western legislation will make companies responsible for preventing decisions based on biased AI. Advances in 'explainable AI' will be rapid. China will be a major research player in AI technologies, alongside the United States, Japan and Europe.

Subject The Trump administration's policy on the Libya conflict. Significance In recent weeks, the United States has pursued a more active foreign policy towards Libya. This is a departure from its position of the past eight years of ‘leading from the back’ on Libya and comes as US President Donald Trump faces an impeachment investigation and elections in November 2020. With the vote approaching, Trump's opponents have increasingly criticised his position on Moscow, drawing attention to the presence of Russian mercenaries in Libya. Impacts Ties with Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and the relative influence Russia has with them, will weigh on the administration’s thinking. The State Department may push more actively for a ceasefire when a conference of external actors in Libya takes place in Berlin. A ceasefire could fragment the forces fighting Haftar without robust external guarantees that his forces would not violate it.

A nationwide cooperative preservation programme has been launched in the United States with federal funding support with the aim of ensuring the responsible stewardship of published and documentary knowledge in all formats. The initial priority of this ambitious effort is a cooperative microfilming programme to capture the contents of three million brittle books in 20 years. This cooperative enterprise, requiring the coordination of selection and filming activities among many research institutions, will be financed by the coordination of funds from a variety of sources. An infrastructure of standards for format, bibliographic records, and appropriate quality controls to permit convenient access has been developed during the past 10 years. The programme includes an active effort to develop mechanisms to facilitate international cooperation in filming, sharing of bibliographic data, and exchange of master negatives.

Background: Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) is an effective but highly underutilized treatment for heart disease. Prior studies have demonstrated that the use of strategies such as systematic referral (as part of an order set that does not depend on physician initiative or memory, usually with an opt-out option), liaison facilitated referral (a specific staff member who discusses the program, encourages attendance, and facilitates referral), an early appointment (< 2 weeks), and telephone appointment reminder calls can all improved enrollment rates. However, it is unclear how frequently these strategies are utilized across the United States, how often CR programs monitor their participation rates, and how often quality improvement (QI) projects designed to improve participation rates are performed. Methods: We surveyed all CR program directors in the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation’s (AACVPR) database. We assessed basic program features, use of systematic referral, liaison facilitated referral, early appointments, and telephone reminder calls and QI projects. We also assessed self-reported referral, enrollment, and completion rates. Results: Response rate was 36% (290/812). Non-response bias analysis showed reasonable survey representativeness. Over the past 5 years, 49% of programs measured hospital referral, 21% office/clinic referral, 71% program enrollment, and 74% program completion rates. Self-reported rates (interquartile range) were 68 [32 to 90]% for hospital referral, 35 [15 to 60]% for office/clinic referral, 70[46 to 80]% for program enrollment, and 75[62 to 82]% for program completion. Programs reported utilizing a hospital-based systematic referral, liaison facilitated referral, or inpatient CR program 64%, 68%, and 60% of the time, respectively. Early appointments (< 2 weeks) were utilized by 35% and consistent phone call appointment reminders were utilized by 50%. Over the past 5 years, the percent or programs performing QI projects were 62% for hospital referral, 42% for clinic referral, 60% for program enrollment, and 57% for program completion. Measurement of participation rates was highly correlated with performing QI projects (p < 0.0001.) Conclusions: Although programs are aware of participation rate gaps, the monitoring of participation rates is suboptimal, quality improvement initiatives are infrequent, and proven strategies for increasing patient participation are inconsistently utilized. Awareness in outpatient clinical settings is particularly low. These issues likely contribute to the national CR participation gap and may prove to be useful targets for national QI initiatives.
