This chapter considers the forms subalterns assume under the conditions of advanced technology. As servers, demons, or other virtual creatures, they work without being seen or ever taking a break. By means of a comparative analysis of early computing systems, the mainframes, and the first machines from the age of personal computers, the discussion focuses on the conceptual and historical transfer from servant to server. The analysis is based on fieldwork conducted in California in the 1970s, when researchers at the legendary Xerox PARC center took a closer look at the conditions of formation of electronic services. What defines the communicative structure of the Internet was a specific informational architecture, the so-called client-server principle, developed in Silicon Valley after 1973.

The rapid development of digital, networked multimedia technology such as the Internet, e-mail and computer-based and video conferencing can open new educational opportunities. This article describes the use of hypermedia modules in distance learning. This educational experience has been developed by the Department of Electronics (Dipartimento di Elettronica) of the Politecnico of Torino (Italy) in the field of computer-based training in electronic instrumentation and measurements, where the author was a supervisor for the educational process. This project is a part of an Italian study of distance education named “Consorzio Nettuno” that involves different undergraduate courses (Electronic Engineering, Information Technology, and Economic Science). Several modules have been developed using multimedia technologies to assist the students to acquire the fundamentals of the basic electronic instrumentation. A client-server system has been designed in order to allow the students to operate in a remote laboratory for experimental training. The courseware includes lessons, exercises, and training on virtual instruments that emulate actual instruments. The students can also carry out several real laboratory experiments without actually being in the laboratory by using a client-server structure based on the Internet.

In large organizations, typical systems portfolios consist of a mix of legacy systems, proprietary applications, databases, off-the-shelf packages, and client-server systems. Software systems integration is always an important issue and yet a very complex and difficult area in practice. Consider the software integration between two organizations on a supply chain; the level of complexity and difficulty multiply quickly. How to make heterogeneous systems work with each other within an enterprise or across the Internet is of paramount interest to businesses and industry.

Embracing inapt infrastructure technology is a major threat in developing extensive and efficient Web-based systems. The architectural strength of all business models demands an effective integration of various technological components. Middleware, the center of all applications, becomes the driver—everything works if middleware does. In the recent times, the client/server environment has experienced sweeping transformation and led to the notion of the “Object Web.” Web browser is viewed as a universal client that is capable of shifting flawlessly and effortlessly between various applications on the Internet. This paper attempts to investigate middleware and the facilitating technologies, and point toward the latest developments, taking into account the functional potential of the on-market middleware solutions, as well as their technical strengths and weaknesses. The paper would describe various types of middleware, including database middleware, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), application server middleware, message-oriented middleware (MOM), Object Request Broker (ORB), transaction-processing monitors and Web middleware, etc., with on-market technologies.

In this paper, the remote data communication system based on GPRS composed of the data center and transmission terminal, which are connected through the Internet and GPRS network.. Taking the client/server model and the connection serve as a whole is to carry out network transmission.


The latest development of the Internet has brought the world into our hands. Everything happens through internet from passing information to purchasing something. Internet made the world as small circle. This project is also based on internet. This paper shows the importance of chat application in day today life and its impact in technological world. This project is to develop a chat system based on Java multithreading and network concept. The application allows people to transfer messages both in private and public way .It also enables the feature of sharing resources like files, images, videos, etc.This online system is developed to interact or chat with one another on the Internet. It is much more reliable and secure than other traditional systems available. Java, multi threading and client-server concept were used to develop the web based chat application. This application is developed with proper architecture for future enhancement. It can be deployed in all private organizations like Colleges, IT parks, etc.

Digital images that are personal and confidential are very vulnerable to wiretapping by irresponsible parties. Especially if distributed via the internet network such as on Facebook, WhatsApp and e-mail chat based applications. Images that are sent sometimes are often confidential images and must be maintained. In order to maintain the security of digital images can be done by utilizing cryptographic techniques. Cryptographic techniques can secure digital images by changing pixel values from digital images so as to produce different pixel values from the original image to be secured. This research will use AES 128 bit and Triple DES methods for encryption and decryption of digital images on client-server based applications. The results of the encryption AES algorithm will be re-encrypted with the Triple DES Algorithm so as to produce pixel values that are far different from the original pixel values. DiXPis a multi-platform data collection program decoupled from low-level basic hardware management and based on the idea of client/server remote control. The main function ofDiXPis the sequential coordination of those basic operations, allowing different strategies for the collection, archiving and graphical representation of measured data.DiXPand the control software reside, in general, on different computers and communicate with one anotherviathe Internet using TCP sockets. The disconnection between low-level handling and the measurement process makesDiXPof general use for controlling a two-circle diffractometer, and this approach can be easily extended to more complex goniometers.
