A rule-based SCR control strategy is developed for a 5% biodiesel fueled heavy-diesel engine. The control objective is to reduce the tail-pipe NOx emission while minimizing the urea dosage in a reliable fashion. A total of 32 runs of experimental test in ESC and ETC driving modes are conducted to demonstrate the performance and reliability of the rule-based control strategy. Average NOx reduction rates of 78.5% and 60% are achieved for the ESC and ETC tests respectively. In the mean time, the average urea dosage is 160 gram for the ESC tests and 0.49 % of the fuel consumption for the ETC tests. Variation of less than 7.78% and 12.05% for the ESC and ETC tests respectively demonstrate the reliability of the rule-based control strategy.

There are many types of Electric Vehicle (EV) applied in automotive industry. It can be hybridization or electrification vehicle. Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) also called as fully electric vehicle using batteries as the only source and an electric motor as a traction motor to move the vehicle. In a world view of BEV, it is still has circumstances that would strand the BEV to have huge commercialization due to range anxiety. This paper is discussing about an electrification vehicle power and energy management (PEM) strategy. PEM strategy has two layer control strategies that consist of low level component control and high level supervisory control. Management and control strategy in BEV is carefully designed due to heavy loads consumption from Propulsion Electrical Load (PEL) and Non Propulsion Electrical Loads (NoPEL) with a single energy source. This is to ensure that power and energy is managed at optimum level that will give some extension of wider kilometer of the vehicle. The BEV performance is typically controlled by high level supervisory control algorithm using event-based condition using state machine deterministic rule-based method. More than one drive mode to be determined in this paper as part of control strategy to get an optimal PEM performance.

A rule based control strategy for automatically adjusting phase lengths and aeration intensity for an activated sludge nutrient removal process based on a periodic operation is examined using simulations based on the Activated Sludge Model No. 1. The strategy is based on four criterion functions, two which determine the switching of the roles of two nitrifying/denitrifying reactors and two which adjust the dissolved oxygen setpoint levels in the two reactors as functions of ammonia and nitrate concentrations. Trajectory plots of reactor concentrations in the ammonia-nitrate plane are shown to be a useful means of visualizing process and control performance. Together, the trajectories from a working region in the ammonia-nitrate plane, the size and location of which can to some extent be predetermined by selection of the criterion functions. The presented results include the influence of one of the criterion functions on control strategy performance, how an incompatibility between two criterion functions can lead to unsymmetric reactor loading, and the effect of allowing simultaneous nitrification and denitrification during nitrifying periods by reducing the dissolved oxygen level as ammonia is consumed.
