The power circuit arrangements of on-board high-voltage static converters fed from a 3000 V AC single-phase network that in the general case produce multi-channel AC and DC output voltages are considered. The basic technical requirements posed to such converters are formulated. The general structural diagram of high-voltage converters with improved electric power consumption quality is given. Possible power circuit arrangements for the high-voltage converter input unit based on single-phase input current correction devices are considered. A classification and criteria for comparative evaluation of the possible power circuit arrangements of these devices are proposed. The information presented in the article will be of interest for specialists engaged in designing on-board electrical systems involving high-voltage converters that must comply with strict requirements for the quality of consumed single-phase input current.

Abstract Pulsed laser for radiation sensitivity evaluation has become a common tool used in research and industrial laboratory. This paper aims to highlight an approach to understand weaknesses of a component under radiation environment using a short pulsed width laser beam coupled to thermography technique, heavy ions test inputs and physical analysis. This paper is based on a study of a PWM device embedded on voltage converter.

This paper deals with a well-known problem of the transient DC-bias current occurring during a phase shift transition in dual active bridge (DAB) DC/DC converters. This phenomenon, if not compensated, can cause damage to the converter or deteriorate its performance. One aim of this paper is to present a solution which allows for the elimination of the undesired transient DC-bias component in current waveforms. This solution is the dual rising edge shift (DRES) compensation algorithm. It provides a very simple implementation and fast settling time within the first half of a switching period. Moreover, the solution is independent on any measurements or system parameter values. It is based on the double-sided single phase shift (DSSPS) modulation, which is described in detail along with a converter model in steady-state. Then, the mechanisms leading to the transient DC-bias are explained, and the compensation algorithm is derived. The performance of the algorithm has been tested using a laboratory prototype. A comprehensive set of tests, involving rapid step changes in power flow and frequency sweep, are provided. Finally, the features of the proposed algorithm are briefly discussed.

Although the BNR system design assumes no sludge settling problems in the final settling tank, the fluctuation of daily loading and up to 40% of anaerobiosis in the BNR system would be considerable factors in determining the sludge settleability. The sludge volume index (SVI) is a classical parameter to examine the sludge settleability but it has a limited value to evaluate the overall settling characteristics. The extracellular polymer (ECP) content in sludge has long been considered as an indicator of biological flocculation in activated sludge process, but the skepticism on analytical accuracy limits the usage in settling study. This study focused on evaluating the BNR system performance related to the sludge settling characteristics under the controlled laboratory environment. A 5-stage BNR system (anaerobic-anoxic-3 stage oxic) was operated with the HRTs from 3.9 to 7.6 hours. In order to determine the sludge settling properties, both SVI and ECP content were monitored. The ECP contents in the sludge sample were measured by the slime-washing step followed by high-G centrifugation and sonication. The gel-electrophoresis was used to detect the DNA in the sonicated samples to determine the intracellular polymer contamination. It has been found that the anaerobiosis in the anaerobic and anoxic zone that consisted of 37% of reactor volume could not deteriorate the sludge settling properties even at the HRT of 3.9 hours. The SVI values of sludge taken from the reactor with the HRT of 7.2 hours averaged to less than 50 mL/gr. It was postulated that a fast settling sludge in the BNR system could not always ensure production of clear effluent. The sludge with very low SVI might not achieve a complete biological flocculation potential. In addition, the degree of denitrification in the BNR system could be related to the sludge settleability.
