The approaching prospect of obligatory implementation and pursuit of Water Safety Plans forces water companies to reflect on supplies in crisis situations that, for example, relate to the closure of a basic intake, or scarcity of water due to climates changes (droughts). Where supplies are diversified, there can be greater certainty as to the continuity of good quality supply, even in an emergency. As one of each country’s systems of critical infrastructure, the collective water supply system (CWSS) should be protected, with the diversification of supply treated as a basic tool to raise levels of security among consumers. This article, therefore, presents a method from the authors’ by which diversification may be assessed, including by reference to basic and key elements of the CWSS capable of affecting the continuity of water supply. Sample calculations using the proposed method are also presented here for selected Polish cities. In the event, as only one Polish CWSS can be assigned to the category representing excellent diversification, the suggestion is clearly that Poland’s systems must still progress with the diversification of water supply, in order to further reduce the risk of water shortages.

The article deals with the response to crisis situations in road transport. Crisis situations are recorded in every critical infrastructure sector. Road transport is no exception. The material transported annually records the growth. The planning of the transport does not take into account the risk of the planned route or the categorization of the transport unit. When categorizing the transport unit the limited choice of suitable routes. The article is focused on real-time responsiveness to crisis situations. The purpose is to minimize next risks that could result in more and more serious events when one crisis situation arises.

The paper refers to providing information about the dangers connected with crisis management. Crisis management is the activity of public administration authorities, which constitutes an element of managing the national security management system and essentially consists of: preventing crisis situations, preparing to take control over them by way of planned activities, responding in case of emergencies, removing their effects and reconstructing resources and critical infrastructure. In the first part, the stages of public administration authorities’ proceedings in crisis management are presented. This part also discusses the regulations incorporating the ways to devolve information in emergencies contained in crisis management plans. The second part of the work applies to the evolution of factual activities as legal forms of public administration activities with reference to operations consisting in informing society in case of emergencies occurring.

Due to the fact that water systems belong to critical infrastructure, diverse methods of its management assessment during crisis situations are applied. In these methods both technical aspects and human factors, that have an impact on safety of water supply to the recipient, are considered. Also assessment tools for water supply were applied for failure assessment in the water supply system (WSS) management. The safety functioning of WSS is associated with analysis of relations between threats, reducing the frequency of their appearing, and, if threats appear, with the identification of their causes and reducing their negative consequences. Undesirable events are the result of phenomena independent from the human will, as well as those related to human activity, that in a significant way influence the WSS functioning. Crisis situations that are affected by such undesirable events having nonrandom (rare events do not have the statistical stability), but also not-determined character, demand specific and interdisciplinary research methods.

Abstract CWSS exploitation in terms of belonging to a critical infrastructure is an important issue and requires a detailed analysis. Therefore it is important to develop emergency plans for the supply of drinking water for different crisis situations, as well as detailed analysis of the risk of possible undesirable events in CWSS, in order to develop a comprehensive safety management program of the system. In this work the problems associated with the operation of CWSS in terms of belonging to critical infrastructure were presented. Also the methodology to determine the crisis management time in the WSS, connected with a shortage of drinking water was shown.

In the realities of modern economy even the best-managed company is not able to avoid threats and bad decisions, that can cause a crisis. Each crisis situation, that a company experiences, generates not only measurable economic costs, but also more difficult to assess and measure costs of a deteriorated reputation. These costs are the result of infringement of interests or failing to satisfy different stakeholders expectations. The aim of this article is an attempt to identify the cost of reputation deterioration in the context of the various interests of stakeholders groups. In the first part, the paper presents the effects of good and bad reputation, the reputation "contamination" path in a crisis situation and a cost analysis caused by it. The second part is empirical, where the identification of crisis situations measurable costs and reputation deterioration based on the examples of three selected companies was performed.

The book of Jeremiah reflects a particular period in the history of Judah, certain theological perspectives and a particular portrayal of the prophet Jeremiah. Covenant theology played a major role in Jeremiah’s view of life and determined his expectations of leaders and ordinary people. He placed high value on justice and trustworthiness, and people who did not adhere to this would in his view bear the consequences of disobedience to Yahweh’s moral demands and unfaithfulness. The prophet expected those in positions of leadership to adhere to certain ethical obligations as is clear from most of the nouns which appear in Jeremiah 5:1–6. This article argues that crisis situations in history affect leaders’ communication, attitudes and responses. Leaders’ worldviews and ideologies play a definitive role in their responses to crises. Jeremiah’s religious views are reflected in his criticism and demands of people in his society. This is also true as seen from the way the people and leaders in Judah responded to the prophet’s proclamation. Jeremiah 5:1–6 emphasises that knowledge and accountability are expected of leaders at all times, but in particular during unstable political times.
