Supine exercise after beta-adrenergic blockade with propranolol in six normal subjects caused (a) a mean decrease of 13% in resting heart rate; (b) a mean decrease of 20% in resting cardiac output; (c) a mean reduction of 17% in exercise cardiac output and a mean reduction of 21% in exercise pulse rate; (d) a decrease in the elevation of arterial systolic pressure produced by exercise; (e) an increase in exercise end-diastolic pressures in the left ventricle and in exercise pulmonary artery pressures; (f) more rapid recovery of circulatory function after exercise. There was no consistent change in pulmonary vascular resistance. Even though the normal cardiac response to exercise would seem to be dependent on intact beta-adrenergic receptors, the exercise loads chosen were completed just as easily after the blockade as before.

A new technique for evaluating hypernasality using an acoustic approach is presented. In a preliminary study using this technique, nasal resonance was assessed in 17 normal subjects and 16 subjects judged to be hypernasal. Analyses of the one-third-octave power spectra revealed an increase in power level between the first and second formant, and a reduction in the power level in second and third formant regions among utterances judged to be hypernasal. Factor analysis of the perceptual ratings revealed that the consensus perception of hypernasality accounted for 71% of the total variance. An additional 8% was accounted for by individual differences. Multiple regression analysis revealed a high correlation between the consensus perception of hypernasality and the variance in two acoustic-power levels, these being the power level between the first and second formant and the power level of the second and third formant regions.

<p class="Abstrak">Pada bulan Desember 2019, virus COVID-19 menyebar ke banyak negara, termasuk di Indonesia yang kemudian menjadi pandemi dan menimbulkan masalah serius karena masih belum adanya vaksin untuk mencegah penularan. Uji spesimen saluran nafas atas dan saluran nafas bawah saat ini merupakan salah satu metode yang efektif untuk mengetahui apakah seseorang terinfeksi COVID-19 atau tidak. Salah satu indikasi dari infeksi COVID-19 adalah sesak nafas atau pneumonia serta munculnya <em>ground-glass opacity</em> pada citra CT. Penelitian ini merupakan studi awal untuk melihat apakah citra CT dari organ thorax dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif untuk mendeteksi infeksi virus COVID-19. Deep learning digunakan untuk membuat sebuah model dengan citra CT sebagai masukan. Total 140 data citra CT yang terbagi menjadi 2 yaitu citra dari pasien terinfeksi dan citra dari subjek normal digunakan sebagai masukan pada deep learning. Proses pelatihan dilakukan menggunakan CNN dengan arsitektur VGG16 dan optimizer SGD dan Adam. Hasil yang didapatkan adalah akurasi sebesar 92,86% untuk mengklasifikasikan infeksi COVID-19 dan normal. Nilai spesifisitas dan sensitivitas sebesar 100% dan 85,71% untuk pelatihan dengan menggunakan optimizer SGD.</p><p class="Abstrak"> </p><p class="Abstrak"><em><strong>Abstract</strong></em></p><p class="Abstract"><em>In December 2019, the COVID-19 virus spread to many countries, including Indonesia which later became a pandemic and caused serious problems because there was still no vaccine to prevent transmission. Tests of upper and lower respiratory tract specimens are now an effective method of finding whether a person is infected with COVID-19 or not. One indication of COVID-19 infection is shortness of breath or pneumonia and the appearance of ground-glass opacity on CT images. This research is a preliminary study to see whether CT images of the thorax organs can be used as an alternative to detect COVID-19 virus. The deep learning is used to create a model with CT images as input. A total of 140 CT image data which are divided into 2 images from infected patients and images from normal subjects are used as input for deep learning. The training process is carried out using CNN with VGG16 architecture and SGD and Adam optimizers. The results obtained are 92.86% accuracy for classifying COVID-19 infections and normal. Specificity and sensitivity values were 100% and 85.71% for training using the SGD optimizer.</em></p><p class="Abstrak"><em><strong><br /></strong></em></p>

Objective: Longus colli provides stability to cervical spine during movements. In clinical practice, the clinicians teach exercises to longus colli to manage neck pain. The aim of this study was to investigate differences in thickness or anterior-posterior dimension (APD), shape ratio and contraction ratio of longus colli between subjects with neck pain and healthy controls. Materials and methods: A total of 12 subjects (6 with neck pain and 6 healthy controls) were recruited by predefined selection criteria. Ultrasound imaging of bilateral longus colli was conducted at the level C5-C6. Anterior-posterior dimension (APD) and lateral dimension (LD) were measured using Ultrasonography. Shape ratio (LD/APD) and contraction ratio (APD during contraction/APD during rest) were calculated. Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the thickness of longus colli between healthy and neck pain subjects. Results and discussion: The results showed that the subjects with neck pain had smaller APD (Mean Rank=4.83, n=6) than healthy subjects (Mean Rank=8.17, n=6), U=16.00, z=-1.601 (corrected for ties), p=0.109, two tailed. Also, shape ratio showed higher values in neck pain subjects (Mean Rank=7.17, n=6) than normal subjects (Mean Rank=5.83, n=6), U=14.00, z=-0.641(corrected for ties) p=0.522, two tailed. In addition, contraction ratio was smaller in neck pain subjects (Mean Rank=4.83, n=6) than those healthy subjects (Mean Rank=8.17, n=6), U=8.00, z=- 1.601(corrected for ties) p=0.109, two tailed. Conclusion: There is a trend of reduced size of longus colli with the median of APD and smaller contraction ratio among patients with neck pain when compared to healthy controls. Both activated normal and transformed lymphocytes produce not only cell-associated but also cell-free IL-2R. Evidence of high serum concentrations of IL-2R appears to serve as a tumor marker in patients with lymphomas On the contrary, the role of soluble IL-2R in solid neoplasms has still to be defined. This investigation was carried out to analyze soluble IL-2R production in human solid tumors. The study included 35 patients with solid tumors (12 without and 23 with metastases), 58 healthy subjects and 6 lymphoma patients. Among cancer patients, lung and breast carcinoma were the two most frequent neoplasms. In each subject or patient, serum levels of IL-2R were measured by using an enzyme immunoassay. Moreover, in 14/23 patients with metastatic solid tumors, lymphocyte subpopulations were also evaluated. Serum levels of IL-2R were significantly higher in the cancer patients than in the normal subjects. The patients with metastatic solid tumors showed significantly higher mean levels than those without metastases, and similar to those observed in the lymphoma patients. Finally, there was no correlation between serum levels of IL-2R and the T4/T8 ratio, which was reduced in 5/14 cancer patients. Further studies will be needed to establish if elevated concentrations of IL-2R in the serum can contribute to the immunoincompetence of patients with disseminated solid neoplasms.
