ABSTRACT Introduction: Basketball can enhance the physical fitness of young people, promote the growth and development of their bodies, and improve health and athletic ability. Objective: To explore the characteristics of basketball players’ cardiac response to increasing load training. Methods: By analyzing 12 juvenile male amateur basketball training athletes, when performing incremental load exercises on the treadmill, using a 12-lead electrocardiograph to record the electrocardiogram, HR, and blood pressure responses for each level of exercise. Results: The mean heart rate of the basketball players before movement was 82.45± 11.44 bpm, slightly higher than the heart rate at rest. Depending on the exercise load, the blood pressure should increase by 5 to 12 mmHg. Under different load training conditions, each level of blood pressure in the Bruce treadmill test procedure should increase 12.5 ~ 44mmHg. The basketball player’s systolic pressure increased by 2.25 ~ 15.7mmHg, diastolic pressure increased by 0.43 to 11.37 mmHg. Conclusions: In basketball players, the psychological stress is less than that of the average person performing the same exercise. The strong ability to adapt to exercise under incremental load training, the contractility of the ventricular muscles and the development of the heart are good. Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a common complex clinical syndrome for which there are currently few evidence-based therapies. As patients with HFpEF very often present with comorbidities comprising the metabolic syndrome, we hypothesized, that metabolic syndrome could lead over time to the development of diastolic dysfunction and HFpEF. Obesity-prone rats were exposed to high-fat diet and compared to obesity-resistant rats fed with standard chow. Phenotyping of metabolic syndrome, associated with echocardiographic and cardiac hemodynamic measurements, was performed after 4 and 12 months. Blood and myocardial tissue sampling were performed for pathobiological evaluation. High-fat diet in obesity-prone rats elicited metabolic syndrome, characterized by increased body and abdominal fat weights, glucose intolerance and hyperlipidemia, as well as increased left ventricular (LV) systolic pressure (after 12 months). This was associated with LV diastolic dysfunction (assessed by increased LV end-diastolic pressure) and pulmonary hypertension (assessed by increased right ventricular systolic pressure). Echocardiography revealed significant concentric LV hypertrophy, while LV ejection fraction was preserved. LV remodeling was associated with cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, as well as myocardial and perivascular fibrosis. Circulating levels of soluble ST2 (the interleukin-1 receptor-like) markedly increased in rats with HFpEF, while plasma NT-proBNP levels decreased. RNA-sequencing analysis identified clusters of genes implicated in fatty acid metabolism and calcium-dependent contraction as upregulated pathways in the myocardium of rats with HFpEF. High-fat diet during 12 months in obesity-prone rats led to the development of a relevant preclinical model of HFpEF with multiple comorbidities, suitable for investigating novel therapeutic interventions.

Background: Evidence suggests that bioactive peptides reduce hypertension and affect certain metabolic pathways. Methods: Fifty-four volunteers with stage 1 prehypertension and/or hypercholesterolemia and/or basal glucose >100 mg/dL were recruited and randomized to pork dry-cured ham (n = 35) or cooked ham (placebo group; n = 19) for 28 days. After a wash-out period, meat products were changed for 28 additional days. Bioactive peptides composition and enzyme inhibitory activities of both products were characterized. Treatment comparisons for the main effects were made using a two (treatment) × two (times) repeated measures minus the effect of cooked ham (placebo). Results: 24 h mean systolic and diastolic pressures decreased up to 2.4 mmHg in the dry-cured ham period (treatment effect, p = 0.0382 y p = 0.0233, respectively) as well as the number of systolic pressure measures > 135 mmHg (treatment effect, p = 0.0070). Total cholesterol levels also decreased significantly after dry-cured ham intake (p = 0.049). No significant differences were observed between the two treatments for basal glucose, HOMA-IR index and insulin levels (p > 0.05). However, a significant rise of ghrelin levels was observed (treatment effect, p = 0.0350), while leptin plasma values slightly decreased (treatment effect, p = 0.0628). Conclusions: This study suggested the beneficial effects of regular dry-cured ham consumption on the improvement of systolic/diastolic blood pressures and facilitated the maintenance of metabolic pathways, which may be beneficial in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Abstract Background Hemorrhage is one of the most common complications of bronchoscopy. Although several hemorrhage risk factors have been proposed, it remains unclear whether blood pressure affects the onset of biopsy-induced endobronchial hemorrhage. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 643 consecutive adults with lung cancer over an approximately 4-year period (from January 2014 to February 2018) at a large tertiary care hospital. Patients were divided into the hemorrhage group and the non-hemorrhage group based on endobronchial biopsy (EBB) findings. The association between systolic pressure (SP), diastolic pressure (DP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), pulse pressure (PP), PP to DP ratio (PP/DP) and the risk of EBB-induced hemorrhage was evaluated using multivariate regression analysis and smooth curve fitting adjusted for potential confounding factors. Results The EBB-induced bleeding incidence was 37.8% (243/643) in our cohort. An independent association was found between PP/PD and the EBB-induced hemorrhage risk (per 1 SD, adjusted odds ratio, 0.788; 95% confidence interval, 0.653-0.951). The multivariate regression analysis performed using quartiles of PP/DP revealed that lower level of PP/DP ratio was related to a higher risk of EBB-induced hemorrhage (P for trend <0.05) after adjustment for potential confounders. However, no association was observed between SP, DP, MAP, PP and EBB-induced hemorrhage. Conclusions Low PP/DP was the independent risk factor for biopsy-induced endobronchial hemorrhage during bronchoscopy in patients with lung cancer.

Abstract Background Uncontrolled immune response with T cell activation has a key role in the pathogenesis of systemic sclerosis (SSc), a disorder that is characterized by generalized fibrosis affecting particularly the lungs and skin. Costimulatory molecules are key players during immune activation, and recent evidence supports a role of CD28 and ICOS in the development of fibrosis. We herein investigated the efficacy of acazicolcept (ALPN-101), a dual ICOS/CD28 antagonist, in two complementary SSc-related mouse models recapitulating skin fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary hypertension. Methods Expression of circulating soluble ICOS and skin-expressed ICOS was investigated in SSc patients. Thereafter, acazicolcept was evaluated in the hypochlorous acid (HOCL)-induced dermal fibrosis mouse model and in the Fra-2 transgenic (Tg) mouse model. In each model, mice received 400 μg of acazicolcept or a molar-matched dose of an Fc control protein twice a week for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, skin and lung were evaluated. Results ICOS was significantly increased in the sera from SSc patients and in SSc skin biopsies as compared to samples from healthy controls. Similar body weight changes were observed between Fc control and acazicolcept groups in both HOCL and Fra-2 Tg mice suggesting a good tolerance of acazicolcept treatment. In mice challenged with HOCL, acazicolcept induced a significant decrease in dermal thickness, collagen content, myofibroblast number, and inflammatory infiltrates characterized by B cells, T cells, neutrophils, and macrophages. In the Fra-2 Tg mouse model, acazicolcept treatment reduced lung collagen content, fibrillar collagen, histological fibrosis score, and right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP). A reduction in frequency of CD4+ and T effector memory cells and an increase in the percentage of CD4+ T naïve cells in spleen and lung of acazicolcept-treated Fra-2 Tg mice was observed as compared to Fc control-treated Fra-2 Tg mice. Moreover, acazicolcept reduced CD69 and PD-1 expression on CD4+ T cells from the spleen and the lung. Target engagement by acazicolcept was demonstrated by blockade of CD28 and ICOS detection by flow cytometry in treated mice. Conclusions Our results confirm the importance of costimulatory molecules in inflammatory-driven fibrosis. Our data highlight a key role of ICOS and CD28 in SSc. Using complementary models, we demonstrated that dual ICOS/CD28 blockade by acazicolcept decreased dermal and pulmonary fibrosis and alleviated pulmonary hypertension. These results pave the way for subsequent research on ICOS/CD28-targeted therapies.

Hypertension occurred in 50% obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) patients meanwhile OSAHS occurred in 30% hypertension patients. The present study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of GATA2-EDN1-AGT induced hypertension in the development of obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome. OSAHS patients (56 cases: 36 cases of male, 20 cases of female, 42~60 years old) were divided into two groups (case group: patients with hypertension monitored by 24 h ambulatory blood pressure and polysomnography; control group: patients without hypertension). Wistar rats were used to establish the OSAHS model (narrow pharyngeal cavity). PaO2 and PaCO2 of patients and rats were measured by an automatic blood gas analyzer. The profile of total protein in the OSAHS group and normal group was evaluated. Protein-protein-interaction (PPI) was carried out to show all matter proteins related. The levels of EDN-1, AGTII and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in blood samples of patients and rats were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expression of GATA2, EDN1, endothelin-converting enzyme 1 (ECE-1) and AGTⅡ was measured. The results showed that SaO2 and AHI were positively associated with systolic pressure (P<0.05) in OSAHS patients. There was no correlation among other indexes (P>0.05). It was also observed that GATA2 had a strong relationship with AGTⅡ and EDN1. The results of ELISA presented that the levels of EDN1, AGTⅡ and ANP in the OSAHS group of human and animal models were significantly increased (P<0.05). The results of immunochemistry showed that the expression of GATA2 and AGTⅡ in the vascular of OSAHS group was upregulated manifestly (P<0.05). It was concluded that OSAHS can induce AHI, which increases hypertension via the GATA2-EDN1-AGT Ⅱ axis.

Background; Arterial hypertension is a chronic disease where the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently above the normal value (systolic pressure > 140 mmHg or diastolic pressure is > 90 mmHg). The worldwide number of hypertension deaths reaches 9.4 million deaths. Hypertension data recorded at Gleno Inpatient Health Centre (IHC) in 2019 reaches 810 patients. Objective; This study aimed to analysis on alcohol consumption with prevalence of hypertension. Methods; This quantitative research used correlation approach, the samples were the patients who make an appointment and intern in Gleno IHC, the sampling technique was non-probability, the purposive sampling technique based of the inclusion criteria and the instrument was a questionnaire. Results; Sample size on study were 46 respondents. Based on the results of correlation statistical analysis Spearman Rank indicates the p-value was 0.001, which is lower than 0.05. This test showed a significant relationship between the consumption of alcohol with the occurrence of hypertension in Gleno IHC. Never the less, the result of the correlation test (r) was 0.473. Which means having the most high impact of alcohol consumption with an opportunity of 0.473 times.  Which result in the most severe hypertension disease in Gleno IHC. Conclusion; This research indicated that the relationship is positive and significant between the alcohol consumption and the prevalence of hypertension in Gleno Inpatient Health Centre, municipality of Ermera. This result can be used as a good input to improve the health promotion program and better service for hypertension patients at this health centre.

Rabbits have played an important role in ophthalmological research processes, however in the environment there has been a deficiency of sensitive equipment in measurement of intraocular pressure for this species. To compare intraocular pressure (IOP) measured with rebound (TONOVET Plus®) and applanation (TONO-PEN VET®) tonometry in healthy New Zealand rabbits treated with Amlodipine. Twelve healthy male New Zealand white rabbits, 5 months old; two groups with 6 individuals were used in this study. The experimental group was given Amlodipine® at a dose of 5 mg/kg, once a day for a month. Blood pressure and intraocular pressure were measurement before treatment and 6 h after treatment in a period of one month. A trend is noted where the group of animals treated with amlodipine® presents lower values than the control group, both in systolic and diastolic pressure. The systolic pressure of the control group showed an average of 116.5 ± 7.9 mmHg and 117.4 ± 8.9 mmHg and the treatment group showed an average of 113.6 ± 7.9 mmHg and 111.8 ± 10.0 mmHg (pretreatment and posttreatment respectively). Tonometry: the values obtained using the TONOVET Plus® (19 ± 3 mmHg) are on average higher than the values obtained using the TONO-PEN VET® (17 ± 3 mmHg). It was possible to demonstrate the relationship between systemic blood pressure and intraocular pressure in New Zealand white rabbits. Rebound tonometry showed less variability in results than applanation tonometry. This study confirmed that both tonometers are reliable for measuring IOP in rabbits.

Introduction. The development of telemedicine systems intended to remotely monitor the health status of patients constitutes one of the most promising areas of contemporary science. Particularly relevant is the use of such systems to track the health of surgically treated patients. Since such patients are mobile, sensors measuring vital signs should not cause any discomfort in regular use. Thus, wearable smart trackers can be used for these purposes.Aim. The paper aims to study the possibility of using smart trackers in a telemedicine system for monitoring patient health.Materials and methods. In the study, a series of measurements was performed using GSMIN WR 41 smart bracelets in order to estimate their accuracy when measuring pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation for different research subjects at rest and during intense physical exercises. In addition, the average measurement interval of the smart bracelet was determined; the operation of the smart bracelet in the telemedicine system for monitoring vital signs was considered.Results. The studies show that an average error in the measurement of vital signs (except for systolic pressure) using the smart bracelet does not exceed 10 %. In order to avoid the high error in measuring systolic pressure, an algorithm for assessing the general health of patients was developed. In addition, it is shown that the smart bracelet can detect an abrupt change in the vital signs of patients, with the average time of their measurement and data transmission to the server of the telemedicine system coming to 45 seconds.Conclusion. The study results indicate that smart bracelets can be used to remotely monitor the health of patients in real-time. These findings are confirmed by the telemedicine system designed on the basis of the smart bracelets considered in the paper.
