In this paper, the conventional database type fast forward solver for efficient simulation of eddy current testing (ECT) signals is upgraded by using an advanced multi-media finite element (MME) at the crack edge for treating inversion of complex shaped crack. Because the analysis domain is limited at the crack region, the fast forward solver can significantly improve the numerical accuracy and efficiency once the coefficient matrices of the MME can be properly calculated. Instead of the Gauss point classification, a new scheme to calculate the coefficient matrix of the MME is proposed and implemented to upgrade the ECT fast forward solver. To verify its efficiency and the feasibility for reconstruction of complex shaped crack, several cracks were reconstructed through inverse analysis using the new MME scheme. The numerical results proved that the upgraded fast forward solver can give better accuracy for simulating ECT signals, and consequently gives better crack profile reconstruction.

Abstract Goczałkowice reservoir is one of the main source of drinking water for Upper Silesia Region. In reference to Water Frame Directive matter since 2010 the strategic research project: „Integrated system supporting management and protection of dammed reservoir (ZiZoZap)”, which is being conducted on Goczałkowice reservoir, has been pursued. In the framework of this project complex groundwater monitoring is carried on. One aspect is vadose zone research, conducted to obtain information about changes in chemical composition of infiltrating water and mass transport within this zone. Based on historical data and the structural model of direct catchment of Goczałkowice reservoir location of the vadose zone research site was selected. At the end of November 2012 specially designed lysimeter was installed with 10 MacroRhizon samplers at each lithological variation in unsaturated zone. This lysimeter, together with nested observation wells, located in the direct proximity, create the vadose zone research site which main aim is specifying the amount of nitrate transport in the vertical profile.

The total area of glacierization of the Tien Shan in the boundary area of the USSR is about 8000 km2. The computation of mass balance was determined for this area in 12 river basins. In computation procedure, the vertical profile of snow accumulation in these regions and exponential dependence of variation of ablation with altitude are used. Thus the mass balance in each basin, bn, was calculated on the basis of these curves and represented in its relation with the equilibrium line altitude (ELA). It is shown that the relation ELA = f(bn) is linear when the range of bn values is close to zero, and in all altitude intervals this relation can be described by hypsographic curves, in all basins bn positive up to an ELA elevation of 3450 to 3500 m a.s.l. For average annual altitude of ELA, bn is negative for all regions. So the glaciers of these mountains add about 4 km3 of water to the total annual runoff.

Treatment of impacted teeth often implies placing a bonded attachment and using orthodontic forces to move the tooth into occlusion. The aim of the paper is to describe a novel methodology of manufacturing orthodontic attachments for impacted teeth using the latest CAD software and 3D printing technology. A biocompatible acrylic based resin was used to print a custom made attachment designed based on the volumetric data aquired through cone bean computer tomography. Custom design of the attachment simplified clinical insertion and treatment planning and 3D printing made its manufacturing easier. Being a first trial, more reasearch is needed to improve the methodology and materials used.
