Energy, environmental issues and society awareness are three of the main components in many engineering problems. Engineering Schools use general education courses to address these issues. However, the bridge between the engineering skills and these issues is still a challenge. In the present work, an open-ended design project was used in a senior level Heat Transfer course to address this need. The students were asked to work in teams to design and build a one- or two-person shelter that is built from recycling material and has no active heat source. The shelter should be portable and easily assembled and disassembled using limited tools to match the use in the time of crises or in developing countries. The details of the project are presented and supported by samples from the students’ work.

There is a growing desire amongst students of architecture to work, either in the UK or in developing countries, in situations where technical and cultural change is rapid and resources are scarce. At the same time self organizing local communities have become recognized as the most effective client and interlocutor for generating meaningful debate on the transformation of their everyday environment. Diploma Studio 6 at the Department of Architecture and Spatial Design of London Metropolitan University has worked with specifically local, low income and marginalized communities in Kosovo (2000 + 2001) and India: Gujarat (2002), Meerut (2003), Delhi (2004 +2005) and Agra (2006) to generate proposals for meaningful change and improvement. This paper seeks to draw out some of the major themes of debate which have emerged.

The archives of meteorological satellites allow pre-selection of dry sites well adapted to astronomical observations (in the visible, infrared and millimetric ranges). The GSM (Grating Scale Monitor) technique then permits qualification of them as sites for future astronomical observatories. Such sites are found in new astronomical countries or in developing countries. At the same time, their protection from light pollution and/or radio interference has to be secured. In practice, once pre-selections are made, the governments of these countries ought to be alerted, for example by the IAU and/or the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs. The local site testing through GSM should be carried out in cooperation with scientists of these countries under the umbrella of the IAU. This could be an approach to help introduce astronomy and astrophysics into developing countries.

Starting from the assumption that the problem of taxpayer compliance is important issues throughout the world, both in developed countries or in developing countries because if the taxpayer does not comply, it will cause the desire to do so acts of avoidance, evasion and tax neglect. this research seeks to find out to what extent taxpayers registered with SAMSAT Bekasi City fulfill Motorized vehicle tax liability. Drawing from institutional theory, this study has six objectives: (i) to find out the application of understanding of regulations taxation of taxpayer compliance, (ii) to determine the application of sanctions tax on taxpayer compliance, (iii) to determine the application of the tax rate to taxpayer compliance, (iv) to determine the effect of the application of preferences risks to taxpayer compliance. Therefore, this research contributes to the development of science knowledge and is expected to apply the theory that has been obtained specifically regarding the influence of understanding of tax regulations, tax sanctions and the tax rate for taxpayer compliance, which is moderated by risk preferences.

ABSTRACT The immune response to heat shock protein A (HspA) in Helicobacter pylori-positive adults increases with age in developed countries. This response has not been studied with children or in developing countries (G. I. Pérez-Pérez, J. M. Thiberge, A. Labigne, and M. J. Blaser, J. Infect. Dis. 174:1046-1050, 1996). As determined by using a specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, HspA seropositivity among 592 individuals in Mexico was <10% in children and increased to >40% in adults.
