This research is qualitative research with the aim of (1) to find out the description of mathematical communication skills of male and female students in solving mathematical problem-solving questions, (2) to find out different information about mathematical communication descriptions in solving problem-solving problems in terms of gender. The subjects of this study were two class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Labakkang, namely one male and one female student who had the highest problem-solving test scores. The procedure of data collection is done by observation, tests of problem-solving and interviews. The research instrument was used in the form of observation sheets, tests of problem solving, interview guidelines. Data analysis techniques are carried out by testing credibility, transferability, dependability, and conformability. The results showed that the mathematical communication skills of male gender subjects were lower than those of female gender subjects. The location of differences in mathematical communication skills between male and female gender is that the indicators write answers according to the purpose of the problem and make conclusions in writing using their own language.

Students are required to find their appropriate strategies to solve mathematics problems so that intuition is needed. Male and female students have different intuition on mathematical problem-solving. Thus, gender is influencing how to obtain mathematical knowledge. This descriptive qualitative study aimed to analize the intuition differences of male and female students who have high-level mathematical abilities at secondary school in solving mathematics problems. Data was collected through tests of mathematical problem-solving and interviews then analysed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. This study found that: (1) There are differences in the characteristics of male and female intuition in mathematical problems solving, (2) The intuition of male and female in mathematical problems solving based on Polya's steps is different in re-checking the answers, (3) There are differences in intuition when students solve linear equation system problems. There are differences in intuition between male and female students with high matematical abilities in each material. Students with problem-solving abilities have affirmative intuition to understand problems, anticipatory intuition for problem-solving plans and solutions, and conclusive intuition to re-examine problems.

The emphasis of mathematics learning, especially students' communication skills, needs to be considered from gender equality in solving mathematical problems. This study aims to describe: 1) the potential mathematical communication skills of students based on gender; 2) gender equality in communicating mathematical problem solving; and 3) the suitability of the form of the model or the applied form to develop students' mathematical communication skills based on gender at school. This research is a descriptive qualitative research conducted on all junior high school students in Langsa with a purposive sampling technique of 283 students. The data were collected through mathematical communication skills and questionnaire tests which were analyzed descriptively using the concept of Miles and Huberman. The results showed that: 1) mathematical communication skills of female students were better than male students in solving mathematical problems; 2) mathematical communication skills of male students are better in suburban schools and female students are better in downtown schools; and 3) learning implementation plans are still limited in emphasizing mathematical communication skills and learning tends to be cooperative and individual. It is recommended that learning plans refer to developing mathematical communication skills that pay attention to students' gender equality in order to optimize mathematical problem solving.

Improvement of mathematical problem solving ability with make a match method in inquiry judging from gender differences AbstractThis study aims to describe the improvement the students’ ability in mathematical problem solving using make a match method in inquiry learning strategy in terms of gender differences. This study conducted in SMP Jakarta Islamic School and SMPIT Thariq Bin Ziyad, Jakarta, Indonesia. In SMP Jakarta Islamic School applied inquiry learning strategy, while in SMPIT Thariq Bin Ziyad applied inquiry strategy that combined with make a match learning method. The study population was students of class VII, where the class was separated between male and female students. The data obtained was derived from pre test and post test data containing problem solving mathematical problems. The data analysis using analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. The result showed that (1) there was no difference in the improvement of mathematical problem solving ability between male and female students (2) there was no difference in the ability to solve mathematical problems between students using inquiry strategies and using inquiry strategies that combined with make a match, and (3) There was an effect of interaction between lerning strategy and gender toward students’ ability in mathematical problem solving.

Problem solving is the highest level of thinking which students need in learning mathematics. This study aims to describe students' mathematical problem solving abilities in terms of gender’s perspective. The research subjects consisted of four students of Class X at SMAIT Al-Fityan School Gowa in the 2018/2019 academic year, consisting of two male students and two female students. The research phase begins with the selection of research subjects determined based on equivalent problem solving ability tests. After selecting the subject, the next phase is giving assignment problem solving, quadratic equations, and interviews. The validity of the data is done by using triangulation of sources by twice interviews, giving tests to students who are different but have the same ability and the same sex in order to produce consistent data. The results showed that female students had better mathematical problem-solving abilities compared to male students based on Polya Steps: 1) understanding the problem, 2) planning the solution, 3) solving the problem, and 4) looking back at the answers.

This study examined the impact of a program based on problem-solving in mathematical problem-solving among 10th grade students. The sample of this study consisted of (89) male and female students; Wadi Bani Kharous Basic Education School and Om Hakeem Basic Education School located in AlBatina South Governorate (Oman). The study followed the quasi-experimental research design with experimental group consisted of (48) students, and control group consisted of (41) students. The instructional materials of Polynomial and Algebraic Functions Unit and Trigonometric Functions Unit for Grade 10th were designed according to a program based on problem-solving. The problemsolving test was valid and reliable. The findings indicated that there were significant statistical differences in mathematical problem-solving test between the experimental and control group due to teaching method in favor of experimental group. The findings indicated that there were no significant statistical differences in mathematical problemsolving test between male and female students. The findings also indicated that there were statistical significance differences in mathematical problem-solving test due to the interaction between and teaching method and gender. The study recommended organizing training workshops for mathematics teachers to introduce programs based on problem solving, training them to build educational programs based on problem solving, and urging them to adopt it due to the positive impact it has shown in teaching mathematics.
