The effect of irradiation doses (0, 125, 250 and 500 Gy) on the nutritional quality of A. bisporus mushrooms (strains ABI-07/06, ABI-05/03 and PB-1) cultivated in composts based on oat straw (Avena sativa) and brachiaria (Brachiaria sp.) was evaluated. The experimental design was 4 x 3 x 2 factorial scheme (irradiation doses x strains x composts), with 24 treatments, consisting of two repetitions each, totaling 48 experimental units (samples of mushrooms). The samples were irradiated in Cobalt-60 irradiator, model Gammacell 220 kGy, with dose rate of 0.740 kGy h–1, according to the treatments proposed. Subsequently, the control (unirradiated) and the other treatments were maintained at 4±1°C and 90% RH in a climatic chamber for carrying out the chemical analysis of the mushrooms on the 1st and 14th day of storage. It was found that all A. bisporus strains evaluated were food with excellent nutritional value, because they presented high protein and fiber contents and low ethereal extract content; the chemical characterization of the mushrooms was influenced by the compost type in which they were cultivated; gamma irradiation influenced the chemical composition of mushrooms.

Agaricus Bisporus is an edible button mushroom that is highly perishable with an extremely short shelf-life at ambient temperature. This work aims to evaluate some antioxidant activities, oxidation enzymes, and determine postharvest qualities of nano-coated mushrooms with the combination of chitosan (CHN) component during storage at 4 °C for (0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 days). Silica/CHN Film strongly delayed the mushroom respiratory spike onset and blocked carbon dioxide passage from inside to the outside, while Titanium/CHN Film (0.035 mmol s−1 kg−1) established the lowest O2 production rate and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances production (6.21 nmol g−1). Silica/CHN Film was mainly effectual for the polyphenol contents (0.39 g kg−1) and antioxidant activities (78.14% and 71.09%) for DPPH and ABTS+ radical scavenging activities, respectively. The results reported that Silica/CHN Film induced the highest (catalase and ascorbate peroxidase) activities, while Titanium/CHN Film recorded the highest (peroxidase and superoxide dismutase) activities of antioxidant enzymes. Besides, Titanium/CHN Film preserved relatively lower contents of hydrogen peroxide (22.40 µmol g−1) and hydroxyl radical (0.16 µmol g−1). In a word, nano-materials used in coating films such as titanium or even silica with the combination of CHN can directly reduce the cell degradation, oxidation processes and enhance the harvested horticultural crops.

This research was conducted to examine Agaricus bisporus and Auricularia auricula crude extract using different solvents (water, ethanol, and methanol) on infrared spectroscopy absorbance during extraction and the impact on broiler carcass. Agaricus bisporus and Auricularia auricula crude extracts were scanned using fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Each mushroom crude extract was chosen and applied into broiler diets as feed additive at 0%, 0.4%, 0.8%, 1.2%, and compared zinc bacitracin inclusion. Variable measured were final live weight, carcass yield, breast meat yield, and abdominal fat yield of broiler. Two hundred and forty day-old chicks were randomly allocated into eight dietary treatments, each treatment was replicated three times with ten chicks for each pen. Diets and water were offered ad libitum. Methanolic extract showed monosaccharide absorption peak in fingerprint region at wavelength 890 cm-1, 930 cm-1, 1050 cm-1, 1150 cm-1 which indicates alpha and beta linkage than the others solvent. Even so, dietary inclusion of methanolic extracts of Agaricus bisporus and Auricularia auricula did not show any effect on final live weight and the yiled of carcass, breast meat and abdominal fat of broiler. In conclusion, methanolic extraction is effective to extract monosaccharides with α- and β- linkages from Agaricus bisporus and Auricularia auricula, while the dietary inclusion of methanolic extracts of both edible mushroom and zinc bacitracin has no effect on carcass quality of broilerin broiler diets did not show differences between treatments as well as zinc bacitracin group.
