Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves are commonly used as food additives in many countries. Beside to improve taste, it is recognized to contain various compound groups namely alkaloid, saponins, flavonoids and tannins that have a role in antibacterial activity. However, the current research aim was to examine effect of using Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves as feed additive in broilers. The method used was experiment, employing 6 treatments included P0: control feed; P0: control feed added with 0.1% zinc bacitracin; P1: control feed added with 0.5% Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves powder; P2: control feed added with 1.0% Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves powder; P3: control feed added with 1.5% Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves powder; P4: control feed added with 2.0% Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves powder. The variables measured were feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion ratio. The results indicated that in all variables no significant results were reported. Those indicated that addition of Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves powder in broiler feed did not affect growth performances of broiler. It is concluded that the use of Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves powder as feed additive did not change growth of broiler, probably due partly to its antibacterial effect.

Abstract This study has been carried out to evaluate the use of drinking water-soluble probiotics as an alternative to Zinc bacitracin Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) in an effort to reduce the concentration of ammonia excreta as a result of increased feed digestibility. The probiotic used contains 2.0 × 107 CFU mL−1 Lactobacillus sp, 1.6 × 107 CFU mL−1 Bacillus sp, and 7.4 × 109 CFU mL−1 Streptomyces sp. The excreta sample was obtained from 15 male Lohmann strain broiler chickens aged 35 days from a total population of 300 chickens that had previously been reared since Day Old Chick. The chickens were distributed into three treatments and five replications in a metabolic cage with a size of 50 cm × 30 cm × 56 cm for three days. This study used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The addition of probiotic significantly reduced (P <0.01) water content and ammonia concentration of broiler chicken excreta. The addition of drinking water-soluble probiotics significantly increased (P <0.01) the feed intake and feed digestibility of broiler chicken. The use of probiotics was better than Zinc bacitracin in reducing excreta ammonia concentration and feed digestibility.

A chicken egg is a valuable animal product that has served people for centuries. Research carried out over the last dozen or so years shows that society's knowledge about them is still relatively small. The research cited in the text shows that only 23% of respondents know that the color of a hen's egg shell depends on the breed of the hen, and not on the way it is fed. As a result, some consumers choose eggs in the store by choosing their color instead of the official markings on each individual egg. Chickens' nutrition has a direct impact on the quality of the eggs they lay. Chickens fed with fodder with antibiotics lay eggs in which we can find the same antibiotics that the animal ate with the food. It has many side effects, however, the greatest of which seems to be bacterial drug resistance, caused by the use of the same strong antibiotics in the nutritional industry and in human hospital medicine. Bacteria have developed various resistance mechanisms. For example, Enterococcus spp. Has developed resistance to vancomycin, Salmonella Typhimurum to tetracyclines, sulfonamides and fluoroquinolones. However, it is possible to use antibiotics in poultry treatment, but it is very important in this case to strictly observe the grace periods necessary to eliminate the antibiotic from the animal's body. Some of the world's governments, aware of the dangers of such a state of affairs, are trying to combat the phenomenon of feeding poultry with antibiotic growth stimulants by introducing new norms, orders and bans in their countries. Antibiotics such as avoparcin, zinc-bacitracin and spiromycin have been discontinued. Chicken egg producers are finding newer and newer ways to circumvent these recipes. Non-antibiotic feed additives such as probiotics, phytobiotics, and specific herbs are used. An effective way to combat this phenomenon may be to educate the public on this topic.

Background: An experiment was conducted to compare the blood biochemical profile of broiler chicken feeding three different types of feed additives. Methods: 180 day old broilers chicks of Ven Cobb 400 strain were distributed randomly into 4 groups (T0, T1, T2 and T3) having 45 chicks in each group on the basis of their body weight. Each group divided into 3 replicates of 15 chicks in each. Rations are computed as per BIS (2007) to meet the nutrient requirement and other three groups (T1, T2 and T3) were offered the same standard ration of the control group but supplemented with zinc bacitracin @ 55 mg/kg (T1), probiotic @ 150 mg/kg (T2) and clove oil @ 400 ppm (T3). Result: The result of the experiment showed significant difference (p less than 0.05) in the level of Glucose in T3 group whereas, protein, albumin, globulin, A:G ratio, ALT and AST did not differ significantly (p greater than 0.05). Probiotic @ 150 mg/kg and clove oil @ 400 ppm supplemented groups showed significant (p less than 0.05) better cholesterol level compared to control and zinc bacitracin @ 55 mg/kg.

Green tea leaves contain a wide range of active bio-compounds that are essential for sustainable quail intensification; however, its feed value is not known for the Jumbo quail. Therefore, this study evaluated the effect of different levels of green tea leaf powder (GTLP) on physiological and meat quality parameters of the Jumbo quail. One-week-old chicks (n = 350; 56.1 ± 2.12 g live-weight) were evenly distributed to 35 replicate pens and reared on five experimental diets formulated as follows: a standard grower diet with zinc-bacitracin (PosCon), a standard grower diet without zinc-bacitracin (NegCon), and NegCon diet treated with 10 (GT10), 25 (GT25) and 50 g/kg (GT50) of GTLP. Weight gain linearly decreased in week 2 but increased in week 4, whereas feed conversion efficiency linearly declined in weeks 2 and 3 as GTLP levels increased. Overall feed intake, carcass yield, and caecum and colon weights showed a linear increase with GTLP levels. Hematological parameters fell within the normal ranges reported for healthy quail. The GT10 group showed larger liver weights than the PosCon and NegCon groups. It was concluded that dietary inclusion of GTLP enhances overall feed intake and carcass performance but not feed efficiency, hematological and meat quality parameters of Jumbo quail.

Dietary egg lysozyme has beneficial roles in the growth performance and health conditions of animals. The study was performed using 90 multicolored rabbits in three groups (each replicate with thirty rabbits). In the control group, rabbits were fed a diet without zinc bacitracin (ZnB) or egg lysozyme, while the second and third groups were treated with ZnB and lysozyme additive at 100 mg/kg, respectively. After eight weeks, the final weight and body weight gain (BWG) of rabbits fed dietary egg lysozyme and ZnB additives were meaningfully increased (p < 0.05). Nevertheless, the feed conversion ratio (FCR) was markedly decreased by dietary egg lysozyme and ZnB (p < 0.05). Interestingly, dietary egg lysozyme resulted in higher final weight and BWG and lower FCR than rabbits treated with ZnB (p < 0.05). Rabbits treated with egg lysozyme and ZnB additives had markedly lower populations of Clostridium spp. and Escherichia coli (p < 0.05) compared with the control. However, the counts of Lactobacillus and total bacteria were meaningfully increased in the the intestines of rabbits treated with egg lysozyme and ZnB (p < 0.05). The blood total protein and globulin of rabbits fed dietary egg lysozyme and ZnB additives were meaningfully increased (p < 0.05). Blood creatinine was significantly lowered by dietary egg lysozyme compared with the control and ZnB-treated rabbits (p < 0.05). The levels of blood urea, ALT, and AST were markedly lowered (p < 0.05) by dietary egg lysozyme and ZnB. The gene expressions of superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) in the liver of rabbits fed dietary egg lysozyme and ZnB additives were markedly upregulated (p < 0.05) compared with the control. Dietary egg lysozyme resulted in higher expression of SOD1 and GPX genes than rabbits treated with ZnB (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the inclusion of egg lysozyme could replace the inclusion of ZnB in the diets of rabbits.

The use of antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) is common practice to improve broiler production and performance. The use of AGP is under discussion as it can induce bacterial resistance. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of removing AGP from broiler feed and study the effect of feed additives. For those countries where in-feed AGP are still permitted, the effect of the products in the presence of AGP was evaluated. Half the number of male broilers received a diet free of AGP, whereas the other half received a diet supplemented with zinc bacitracin at 0.5 g/kg. Both diets were either without additional additives or combined with a coated sodium butyrate, α-monolaurin or a combination of these additives. Raised under optimal conditions, the incorporation of AGP had no effect on broiler performance, but negatively affected villi height and villi height to crypt depth (VH:CD) ratio in the duodenum. In the absence of AGP, butyric acid and α-monolaurin had a positive effect on villi height. In the presence of AGP, α-monolaurin resulted in the lowest feed conversion ratio and improved VH:CD ratio in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Both feed additives had minimal effect on performance parameters but showed small positive effects on gut health in the absence of AGP and could play a role in the strategy to replace AGP.

This study evaluated the potential of monoglyceride blend (MG) and buffered formic acid (FA) as alternatives to antibiotics in the performance and intestinal health of broilers under clinical necrotic enteritis (NE) challenge. A total of 544 as-hatched Ross 308 broiler chicks were randomly distributed to 32-floor pens housing 17 birds per pen. The four treatments were: NC—non-additive control; ZBS—antibiotic group supplemented with zinc bacitracin and salinomycin; MG—additive MG supplementation in the starter phase only; and MGFA—additive MG in starter phase and FA in grower and finisher phases. All birds were challenged with Eimeria spp. and Clostridium perfringens. Results showed that the NC group had lower BWG and higher FCR than the ZBS group in the grower and overall period (p < 0.05). The NC group had higher NE-caused mortality (days 14 to 17) than the ZBS group (p < 0.05). Birds fed MG had lower NE-caused mortality than the NC group (p < 0.05). Birds fed MG had upregulated jejunal tight junction protein1 (TJP1) and immunoglobulin (IgG) on day 16 and improved gross energy digestibility on day 24 than the NC group (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that supplementation of MG may improve intestinal health and protect birds from clinical NE occurrence.

The effect of feeding recommended levels of three antibiotics on the visceral organs of growing guinea fowls has been examined. Day old broiler type guinea fowls were given Oxytetracycline, Rocaryone, and zinc bacitracin supplemented diet till 12 weeks of age. Dressed weight of medicated guineas were significantly higher than controls. No treatment effects were observed on the lungs, gizzards and reproductive organs. Fat pads were significantly (P.05) heavier in treated birds as compared with controls. Heart and liver weights were also significantly higher (P.05) in treated guinea fowls.
