The Ti/SnO2-Sb electrode with/without Er were manufactured by Pechini’s method. The electrodes were characterized using SEM, EDS, XRD, FT-IR, the oxygen evolution potential test and their electro-catalytic abilities were evaluated though nitenpyram degradation. XRD and FT-IR results showed that the structure of the electrodes were Sn-base sosoloid without Er and Sb phases. The Er3+iron entering the unit cell of SnO2(Sn4+) could cause the grain refinement, the surface enrichment of Sb and Er, stronger water absorbability, and higher anode potential. These consequently generated more active sites and less oxygen vacancies on the anode surface, leading the improving of the electro-catalytic performance. The grain refinement mechanism for Er doping may be ascribed to the increase of the surface composition supercooling, the acceleration of the SnO2generation rate, and the restrain of its growth rate.

The zinc oxide varistors are ceramic semiconductor devices doped with some metallic oxides such as: bismuth, nickel, manganese, cobalt, and others. The aim of this work is to characterize the varistors, obtained by the Pechini’s method, regarding their microstructure and electrical features. By using chemical synthesis, it has been produced ceramic powders. The powders have been compacted in the form of pellets and sintered at 1200°C/1h. The samples have been characterized by measurements of J x E, XRD and by SEM. The results show that the powders obtained through Pechini’s synthesis method and calcined at 700°C/1h have a particle size of less than 100 nm. The resulting microstructures show heterogeneous morphologies in a shape of pins and presence of inter and intragrain porosity. The electrically characterized results show that the produced varistors present a nonlinearity coefficient of 21 and breakdown voltage of 1590 V/cm.

The production cost is one of the issues for some complex ceramics applications, like the superconducting oxides. The main properties of such materials, i.e., zero electrical resistivity and perfect diamagnetism, make them attractive for several applications, including energy storage. Thus, in this work, we focus on the production and structural characterization of BSCCO superconducting films using a domestic inkjet printer. The precursor solution was prepared following Pechini's method, and it was used, such as the ink. Then, an E-shape film was printed over a SiO2 substrate. The results show that the sample produced with 12 depositions presented a superconducting transition at 81 K and a critical current density of 9.68 A/cm2 at 78 K.

In this work, samples of 10 mol% Mg-doped SnO2 were synthesized by Pechini's method and calcined at 500°C. Previous analysis suggests that the additive is preferentially located on the surface of nanoparticles as a surface excess. Since MgO is highly soluble even in weak acid medium, the samples were "washed" with concentrated nitric acid for a few hours in order to remove Mg from the surface. After the lixiviation, the sample was thermally treated again. This procedure was carried out five times using the same sample, and the dependence between macroscopic properties and surface excess was demonstrated, since it was detected a direct relationship on particle size and isoelectric point on each new washing. Also, a new method to measure surface excess in solids was applied.

In this work, samples of 15 mol% Sr-doped Al2O3 were synthesized by Pechini's method and calcined at 900°C. DRX analysis showed that only corundum phase is present, and no shift on the main peaks was observed, suggesting that the additive is preferentially located on the surface of nanoparticles as a surface excess. SrO show high basic character and is applied as heterogeneous catalyst in transesterification of soybean oil to produce biodiesel. Since SrO is difficult to obtain through Pechinis method, due to high stability of SrCO3, the use of Al2O3 as a catalyst support produced via polymeric precursor was studied, and the reaction of transesterification was successfully made, because the crystallization of strontium carbonate on the corundum surface was avoided using the washing procedure. Also, the catalyst was characterized by DSC, isoelectric point and surface area.
