Kata kunci: Pelemahan; kadar bit kesalahan; pengesan foto; faktor Q; sistem daratan The reflection of sunlight by mirrors or known as the heliograph is an early method of optical wireless communication (OWC). Naturally, modern communication system reveals much higher data rates with better quality of service (QoS) compared to those ancient methods. There are many advantages of OWC which are important for a terrestrial system for example the usage of an outdoor free space optics (FSO) system. In this paper, a description and system performance characterization of the FSO such as attenuation, bit error rate (BER), Q factor and the type of detectors that are highly useful for detection in FSO systems are presented. The system are designed and simulated for performance characterization considering Subang terrestrial. Key words: bit error rate; photodetector; Q factor; terrestrial system

Free Space Optics (FSO) is one of the emerging technology which is thoroughly being popular and is basically using optical signals for the communication. The paper evaluates the bit error rate performance of the Free space Optics (FSO) system. To design a high performance communication link for the atmospheric FSO channel, it is of great importance to characterize the channel with proper model. The performance of the highly efficient, high data rate system is limited by the certain constraints like scintillation effects and atmospheric turbulence. The FSO communication system using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique which is known for its increased robustness against frequency selective fading, narrow-band interference and high channel efficiency. The performance of the modulation techniques- Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK), Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) and 8-PSK are studied in the Lognormal and Negative Exponential channel. The obtained results are the comparative study of Bit Error Rate (BER) vs. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), which is quite useful for analyse the system performance with different channel models for various modulation techniques.

ABSTRACT:  Multiple transmitters/receivers (TX/RX) are used to improve the quality of Free Space Optics (FSO) communication systems. With the current needs of this technology for longer distance communication, the qualitative analysis of the system has become essential. In this work, the received power level (PR) and bit error rate (BER) are considered to influence the FSO link performance. The relationship between the two parameters are investigated and analysed. Furthermore, the received power for various numbers of TXs and RXs are experimentally measured and compared with the values obtained from theoretical calculations. The first part of the work deals with the theoretical calculation and simulation designs of multiple laser beams based on the commercial FSO used in actual sites. The second part describes the practical work and analysis of the system’s performance.ABSTRAK: Pemancar/penerima berganda (TX/RX) digunakan bagi meningkatkan kualiti sistem komunikasi Ruang Optik Bebas (FSO).

AbstractIn the evolvement of current passive optical networks (PONs), there is ever increasing bandwidth demand due to dynamic service requirements. This introduces challenge for the choice of multiplexing technique and physical layer bounds like fiber length, data rate, and number of users are critical over a suitable architecture. In this article, hybrid wave division multiplexing-time division multiplexing PON is analyzed using variable length of fiber with data rates up to 40 Gbps over a maximum of 128 end users. Comparative study using different frequency spacing’s has shown that it has negligible effect on the Q-factor performance parameter. Further in the work, variable data rates required for different services is successfully transmitted up to 30 km to 128 number of users for an acceptable level of bit error rate.

AbstractAim and scope of this study is to simulate the performance signature of optical inter satellite links based booster Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and receiver preamplifiers. The study is simulated to demonstrated the effect of changing the propagation distances between satellites spacing based on the booster EDFA and receiver preamplifiers. Signal power amplitude, Max. Q factor, and min bit error rate are investigated against the input power variations.
