That complement clauses are a prominent feature of various registers including conversation and academic prose. In academic prose, that-clauses are of interest because they frame research findings, the writer’s central message to the reader. To achieve this persuasive purpose, that-clauses are employed to draw in various voices, including those of other researchers, research participants, research findings and the writer. This study extends prior investigation of complement clauses to examine their distribution across different sections of a corpus of research articles in social science. The social action of each section is partially achieved through what the different voices in the different sections of the article talk about, and the subtle variations in the stance of the author and other voices across sections. This study finds that use of reporting verbs is nuanced according to authors’ purposes in different sections, and also according to the source of the proposition in the that-clause.

Accounting research, like many other social science disciplines, has gradually moved from qualitative to quantitative research with an emphasis on the use of multiple evidence or methods in the conduct of research. This chapter explores the concerns and implications of triangulation in the conduct of research in the social sciences, particularly in the field of accounting. Based on evidence from existing literature, the chapter submits that triangulation is an important strategy for enhancing the quality of accounting research. Accounting researchers, like those from other social science disciplines, often adopt triangulation when investigating a complex phenomenon whereby using a single data source or method may not allow an exhaustive investigation to fully understand it, hence the inability to reach a dependable conclusion. Despite the concerns and implications of use of triangulation in accounting and social science research, the chapter concluded it is a relevant approach especially at a time when adequate evidence and analytical rigor is required to substantiate research findings.

Social sciences are only rarely integrated into graduate medical curricula, though there have been several calls for increasing social sciences in medical education. The usual approaches to teaching the social sciences in graduate medical education in the current literature include basing curricula on the Behavioral and Social Sciences model or the Social Determinants of Health model. One further approach attempts to teach competencies that suggest intersections between the social sciences and competency frameworks. A foundation of social science knowledge, analogous to the foundational basic science and clinical science knowledge learned by trainees to support medical expertise, could support the broader competencies required for trainees to become competent physicians. This chapter describes a model of foundational social science knowledge, developed from research findings. The chapter provides curricular ideas, practical tips, discussion questions, and helpful links for program directors looking to incorporate social science teaching in their programs.

Akhlaq is not only a major dimension of Islam, but also the root of humanity in Islam. However, its relevance to the modern disciplines is yet to be extensively explored. This paper aims at looking into the relevance of akhlaq to the modern life, mainly through the Social Science disciplines. This paper analyzes the meaning of akhlaq with special connotation and expectation from the Qur’anic perspective, and its interpretation from Muslim ethicists. This paper seeks to answer the central problem related to typical perception on religious ethics that hinders its harmonious integration into the realm of human experience. The paper touches the issues on the real nature of Akhlaq and the place of human freedom and objectivity in Akhlaq. The role of Akhlaq in dealing with individual versus societal end is also explored. It is found that Akhlaq acts beyond the typical normative ethics and consistent in its standpoint of human agency with its concepts of motivation and sanction as addressed by the Qur’an. Instead of being abstract and dry, the generic nature of values in Akhlaq is adjustable to different experience, and harmonious to the life needs both at individual as well as societal level of man. Hence, akhlaq opens its door widely to work together with Social Science disciplines which can further enhance a better understanding of humanities in facing the social changes.        Keywords: Akhlaq, Social Sciences, Qur’anic Ethics, Normative, Motivation, Sanction. Kata Kunci: Akhlaq, Sains Kemasyarakatan, Etika al-Qur’an, Normatif, Motivasi, Sanksi

The youth of today are caught between tradition and progress, and they are in the throes of a modernizing society and abrupt cultural and political changes.  Indeed, the extent of values integration in social sciences subjects have contributed in enhancing values integration in social science subjects. The study critically appraised in more detail the extent of the integration of values in the Social Science subjects among college students of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA in the three major campuses of the school. The study used the descriptive research design.  The mix method of qualitative and quantitative was used in the appraisal of the salient aspects of the five social science subjects.  The study used three sets of questionnaires. The analysis utilized descriptive and inferential statistical measures. Findings of the study revealed that social science subjects such as Philippine History and Life and Works of Jose Rizal, integrate values to a very great extent across campuses vis-à-vis character development. The study concludes that extent of values integration has significant differences in the responses across the respondents’ strata. The values integration and educational practices about character development, educational management, and instructional leadership are implications from the findings in the study.
