Introduction: In Mexico there is a lack of knowledge about the importance of promotion of psychological well-being in Medical Education. Most of the research focuses on the pathologies developed during his journey as a student in relation to the adverse environments they face. Objective: To identify the level of psychological well-being in medical residents from first to fourth year of a public university in Mexico and the need for its inclusion in the formal curriculum in Medical Education. Method: Descriptive and cross sectional study. The Ryff Psychological Wellbeing Scale (SPWS) was used which was previously validated in the study population. 157 first to fourth year residents of the different specialties participated. Results: The scale was made up of four factors. It was found that 35.1% had low levels and 33.7% average levels of psychological well-being. Conclusions: Most of the residents showed levels of medium and low psychological well-being, which make reference to the relevant decision made by the corresponding authorities that include the promotion of psychological well-being within the formal curriculum of Medical Education.

Reconociendo la importancia de desarrollar ambientes saludables en los entornos laborales la Universidad Veracruzana en cumplimiento con su compromiso como universidad promotora de la salud, oferta para sus trabajadores un programa de actividades físico-deportivas en espacios laborales. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo presentar información sobre la composición corporal y el bienestar psicológico de 143 trabajadores usuarios del programa. Mediante un diseño trasversal, se realizó la toma de antropometría y se aplicó la escala de bienestar psicológico de Ryff. Los resultados indican que el bienestar psicológico en general alcanza puntajes altos, sin embargo 63.7% de los participantes presenta exceso de peso según su índice de masa corporal y 79.4% muestran porcentajes altos de grasa corporal, lo que hace evidente la necesidad de llevar a cabo la promoción de actividades físico-deportivas para obtener sus beneficios en esta población. Palabras clave: Composición corporal; bienestar psicológico; trabajadores universitarios; actividad física; promoción de la salud.AbstractThe importance of developing healthy environments in work environments is recognized. Thus, the University of Veracruz, in compliance with its commitment to promote health, offers a program of physical-sporting activities in work spaces for its workers. This paper aims to present information on the corporal composition and the psychological well-being of 143 workers who are users of the program. For this purpose a cross-sectional study was carried out to get anthropometric data and the Ryff's psychological well-being scale was conducted. The results shown that, in general, the psychological well-being tends to reach high scores. However, 63.7% of participants had excess weight according to their Body Mass Index, while 79.4% shown high percentages of body fat, which makes evident the need to continue with promoting physical and sports activities to benefit this population.Keywords: Body composition, psychological well-being, college workers, physical activity, health promotion.

Introduction: Transgender (TG) children and adolescents experience problems in school as well as with family and social relationships that can adversely affect their physical and psychosocial health and impair their quality of life (QOL). This study aims to assess health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in TG children. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study comparing HRQoL in gender nonconforming (Trans) and gender conforming (CIS) children and adolescents using the Spanish version of KIDSCREEN-52 in 120 Chilean Trans and CIS children (aged 8–18 years) and their parents. All scores were standardized according to the KIDSCREEN manual. Results: Among the 100 questionnaires answered, 38 corresponded to children and adolescents aged 8.4–18 years. Twenty-one of them were TG (71% trans males) and 17 were CIS (76% females). Sixty-two parents answered the questionnaires: 33 from families of TG children (PTrans) and 29 from families of CIS children (PCis). Trans children had lower HRQOL scores in all domains compared to CIS children. The lowest-scoring domains for TG children were “Moods and Emotions”, “Psychological Well-Being” and “Social Acceptance”, and the highest-scoring domain was “School Environment”. The PTrans group had significantly higher scores than the Trans group for 3 of the 10 domains: “Psychological Well-Being”, “Moods and Emotions”, and “Parent Relations and Home Life”. Conclusion: Our results revealed that TG children and adolescents have lower QOL than their CIS counterparts, especially regarding items related to mental health. Furthermore, their parents may underestimate their well-being, confirming the vulnerability of the TG population. This finding underlies the need to perform early assessments of QOL for early detection and intervention in aspects that could deteriorate their quality of life.

Abstract Purpose The impact of malignant melanoma (MM) on patients’ psychophysical well-being has been poorly addressed. We aimed to assess the perceived burden in patients with a diagnosis of MM, using two different tools, one generic and one specific for MM, such as Pictorial Representation of Illness and Self Measure (PRISM) and Melanoma Concerns Questionnaire (MCQ-28), respectively. The correlation between PRISM and MCQ-28 subscales and the relevance of disease and patient-related variables were also investigated. Methods This single-centre, cross-sectional study included all adult consecutive MM patients who attended our Dermatology Unit from December 2020 to June 2021. Demographics and disease-related data were recorded. PRISM and MCQ-28 were administered. Results One hundred and seventy-one patients were included (mean age: 59.5 ±14.9 years.; 48.0% males). Median time from MM diagnosis to inclusion was 36 months. Nearly 80% of the patients had in situ or stage I MM. Overall, 22.2% of the patients reported a PRISM score <100mm and similar percentages provided scores indicating impaired quality of life, as assessed with MCQ-28 subscales. A weak, albeit significant, correlation was found between PRISM scores and ACP, CON and SOC2 subscales. The most relevant association found was that between lower PRISM scores and higher-stage MM. Conclusions In the study population, mostly affected with superficial MM, their perception of the burden associated with MM did not appear either particularly dramatic or disabling. PRISM seems a reliable system for capturing and quantifying the domains correlated with the emotive dimension of MM, especially MM-related concerns and willingness to face life

Background: The development of an ideal doctor-patient relationship requires empathy. Empathetic conversation aids in the formation of an open and trusting equation between doctor and patient. Furthermore, this leads to accurate diagnoses and more compliance to the advised treatment. In this manner, empathy helps in overall recovery of the patient and improves global functioning and generalised well-being. This study aims to make note of the fluctuation in empathy levels during medical education. Studies done in various countries have found factors such as curriculum, clinical rotations timing and gender to progressively influences empathy levels in students throughout their medical training. The recent trend of violence against healthcare professionals in India calls for an urgent action into the gap between doctors and patients communication. Empathy towards patients and attendants will reduce such untoward events. In this current context, we should improve empathy levels among the training doctors. As a first step, we should assess various factors affecting empathy among health care professionals. Method: This cross sectional study was done among undergraduates of a rural medical college in Northern Telangana during the time period of October to December 2019. Their empathy levels were assessed using Jefferson’s Scale for Empathy- Student version (JSE-S). Result: Of the 470 students surveyed, 227 were males and 243 females. Female students were having higher empathy among first year and second years (p<0.001). Empathy levels seem to decline from first year to second year following which the mean empathy remains similar throughout the remaining years in students of both sexes. There is no significant relation between mean empathy scores and choice of future speciality (p>0.05). Conclusion: Female undergraduate students are found to be more empathetic than their male counterparts. A fall in empathy scores from the first to second year of MBBS is seen, which is when students enter their clinical rotations. Targeted intervention at this time may go a long way in the creation of a new generation of more empathetic physicians. Hence, there is a need for evaluation of teaching and learning techniques in medical education. Further, there is a call for more research into the determinants of decline in empathy amongst medical professionals.

Abstract Objectives To examine the association between listening and disruptive behaviors and the association between disruptive behavior and the wellbeing of the nurse. To test whether constructive and destructive listening has an incremental validity. Methods A structured questionnaire survey that measured the (constructive & destructive) listening climate at work, exposure to disruptive behaviors, well-being and feeling as a victim. We presented this survey using the Qualtrics software. Results Of the final sample of 567 respondents who reported that they were nurses, MAge = 38.41, 67% indicated that they were exposed to some form of disruptive behavior. Experiencing listening in the ward was associated with low levels of exposure to disruptive behaviors; exposure to disruptive behaviors, in turn, predicted reduction in the nurses’ wellbeing; the reduction in wellbeing was especially pronounced among nurses who felt like a victim. Each of the facets of the listening measure—constructive listening and destructive listening—had incremental validity in predicting exposure to disruptive behaviors. Finally, the effect of exposure to disruptive behavior on wellbeing was curvilinear. Conclusions Disruptive behavior is a major challenge to the workplace well-being for nurses. The victim mentality has an adverse impact on nurses. Preventive efforts aimed at reducing disruptive behaviors among nurses and decreasing their sense of victimization are crucial for the well-being of nurses.
