The purpose of this paper is to present a method for increasing the value of vibration analysis as a tool in the maintenance of machinery. The method, termed “baseline” method, is described and the use of various types of vibration measuring instruments and data recording explained. Seven steps involved in setting up a baseline program are discussed with information provided as to specific measurement and analysis technique. Various applications of the method, designed to expand the usefuless of vibration analysis, are also outlined.

ID (inner-diameter) slicing is widely used in cutting ingots currently. In this paper, the deflection (axial vibration) and vibration (radial vibration) signals in different slicing conditions of the silicon wafers were measured online and analyzed. The effects of the vibration signals on the machining accuracy and surface roughness of sliced wafers were investigated based on the measurement and analysis of the surface roughness, warpage and TTV (total thickness vibration) of the sliced wafers. The results show that the changes of surface roughness, warpage and TTV of the sliced wafers exhibit approximately consistence with the changes of the power spectrums of the acquired vibration signals in different working stage of the blade. The vibration and deflection signals can give evidence of the changes in the cutting forces and blade performance during slicing. The power spectrum of the signals is useful for monitoring the blade wear and tension condition and predicting the surface quality and machining accuracy of the sliced wafers.

Abstract The identification of property changes and damage in various structures is one of the major points in the engineering society. This work contains the method and results of a long-term aging process implemented by an experimental system. We applied a chemical and heat artificial aging test on metal and plastic pipes to indicate the degradation levels and results with suitable measuring instruments. During our measurements of aged pipes vibration tests were performed to get information about the changing of the vibration spreading properties of different materials. We were searching for information about the property changing of widely used pipe materials to estimate the rate of degradation and the service life of these instruments more accurately.

Metal parts with large and complicated curved surfaces used widely have some characteristics such as a great volume, a big area, distorting easily. It is very difficult to measure and evaluate accurately the parts. Taking measurement of the parts as a purpose, a new measurement method called On-Line Shape Measurement System (OSMS) is put forward.Error analysis of curves is a requirement to assure quality and to reduce manufacturing costs and rework. This paper proposes a new approach and algorithms for the error analysis of curves.the system applies a robust mathematic model, Implicit polynomials (IP), to construct the model of the test-points. Once the CAD model is adjusted, it is compared with input to reveal the errors between their shapes. To accomplish this task a new shape matching algorithm is developed. Experimental results on error analysis of a variety of the machined metal skin of aircraft are reported to show the validity of the proposed methodology.

Vibration analysis is used as a predictive maintenance tool in a wide variety of industrial areas, especially for rotating and reciprocating machines. In this paper fault diagnosis of the reciprocating air compressor in factory for furniture and the radiator of the diesel engines for generating electricity is presented. The reciprocating air compressor had failures in the outlet pipe of stage one. The radiator of diesel engines was subjected to leakage caused by vibrating forces. In order to detect the faults, some vibration measurements were taken and vibration analysis was accomplished. Finally, according to measurements and vibration analysis results some remedial actions were recommended.
