Abstract Precision turning with slow tool servo (STS) plays an increasingly important role in advanced manufacturing nowadays. However, it is difficult to promote machining quality for surfaces with local complex geometric features by the conventional global machining method. Hence, a subregional processing method in STS is proposed. First, the continuous equipotential line is taken to express the local geometric feature. Thus, a potential field is built, where the surface could be divided into subregions. Then, a subregional toolpath with variable feed rates is generated by the field and stitched to ensure the feeding motion stability of X-axis. Finally, the surface is subdivided for variable spindle speed planning, considering the feeding motion stability of Z-axis. It is found that the profile arithmetic average error reduces by 31.58% with the proposed method compared with that with the conventional method and the machining time is shortened by 41.00%. Thus, it is proved that the new processing method effectively promotes machining quality and efficiency.

Three-dimensional stereo vision technology has the capability of overcoming drawbacks influencing by light, posture and occluder. A novel image processing method is proposed based on three-dimensional stereoscopic vision, which optimizes model on the basis of camera binocular vision and in improvement of adding constraints to traditional model, moreover ensures accuracy of later location and recognition. To verify validity of the proposed method, firstly marking experiments are conducted to achieve fruit location, with the result of average error rate of 0.65%; and then centroid feature experiments are achieved with error from 5.77mm to 68.15mm and reference error rate from 1.44% to 5.68%, average error rate of 3.76% while the distance changes from 300mm to 1200mm. All these data of experiments demonstrate that proposed method meets the requirements of three-dimensional imageprocessing.

A mathematical model is presented for determining the rational machining conditions for flat grinding operations by the rim of a wheel on machines with a rectangular table consisting of a linear objective function and linear inequality constraints. As the objective function, the equation, determining the main machining time, was used. And constraints which are related to the functional parameters and parameters determining the machining quality and the kinematic capabilities of the machine were used as inequality constraints.

In processes using the ultrashort pulsed laser, the phenomenon that the ablation efficiency is reduced due to the increase of the shielding effect of the generated plume is increasingly caused by the use of the high power and high repetition rate. A new method is needed to prevent a decrease in ablation efficiency in processing using an ultrashort pulsed laser. In this study, the proposed a processing method that can improve the ablation efficiency by providing an efficient escape path of plume, and examine the feasibility of a new processing method. The new method we proposed is a method of laser processing after generating a fine curvature in the polymer as a preliminary preparation. The fine curvature of the polymer produced by the preliminary preparation induces an artificial chimney-like opening along the path of the incident beam during laser processing, thereby enabling the plume to be effectively removed. The experiment for examine the feasibility through a new method was conducted using a 10-picosecond laser of UV wavelength with two optical systems. As a new processing method, when processing with ultrashort pulse laser, it was observed that the ablation efficiency improved.
