Imaging spectroscopy technique was introduced in the cultural heritage field in the 1990s, when a multi-spectral imaging system based on a Vidicon camera was used to identify and map pigments in paintings. Since then, with continuous improvements in imaging technology, the quality of spectroscopic information in the acquired imaging data has greatly increased. Moreover, with the progressive transition from multispectral to hyperspectral imaging techniques, numerous new applicative perspectives have become possible, ranging from non-invasive monitoring to high-quality documentation, such as mapping and characterization of polychrome and multi-material surfaces of cultural properties. This article provides a brief overview of recent developments in the rapidly evolving applications of hyperspectral imaging in this field. The fundamentals of the various strategies, that have been developed for applying this technique to different types of artworks are discussed, together with some examples of recent applications.

The purpose of the research work is to analyze the norms of Federal laws, as well as the laws of the Russian Federation's constituent entities, devoted to the definitions and classification of the concepts “cultural heritage”, “historical and cultural monuments”, “cultural values”. Conclusions obtained in the course of the research: based on the study of current legislation, it is concluded that the definitions of “cultural values”, “cultural property”, “objects of cultural inheritance” contained in various normative legal acts differ in content. Based on the research, the author proposes the concept of “cultural values”.

Multi-spectral imaging technique plays an important role in real-world applications such as medicine and medical detections. This paper proposes a cervical cancer cell screening method to simultaneously adopt TBS classification and DNA quantitative analysis for a single cell smear. Through using compound staining on a smear, the cytoplasm is stained by Papanicolauo and the nucleus is stained by Feulgen. The main evaluation parameter is the DNA content of the nucleus, not the subjective description of cell morphology, which is more objective than the TBS classification method and reduces the chances of missing a diagnosis due to subjective factors. Each nucleus has its own DI value and color image of the whole cell, which is convenient for doctors as it allows them to review and confirm the morphology of cells with a nucleus DI of over 2.5. Mouse liver smears and cervical cases are utilized as the measuring specimens to evaluate the performance of the microscope multi-spectral imaging system; illustrative results demonstrate that the proposed system qualifies, with high accuracy and reliability, and further presents wide application prospects in the early diagnosis of cervical cancer.

AbstractMotivated by the increased use of 3D acquisition of objects by cultural heritage institutions, we were investigating ontologies and metadata schemes for the acquisition process to provide details about the 3D capturing, which can be combined with preexisting ontologies describing an object. Therefore we divided the 3D capturing workflow into common steps starting with the object being placed in front of a 3D scanner to preparation and publication of the 3D datasets and/or derived images. While the proposed ontology is well defined on a coarse level of detail for very different techniques, e.g. Stucture from Motion and LiDAR we elaborated the metadata scheme in very fine detail for 3D scanners available at our institutions. This includes practical experiments with measurement data from past and current projects including datasets published at Zenodo as guiding examples and the source code for their computation. Additionally, the free and Open Source GigaMesh Software Framework’s analysis and processing methods have been extended to provide metadata about the 3D processing steps like mesh cleaning as well as 2D image generation. Finally, we discuss the current limitations and give an outlook about future extensions.
