In this study, we present the genomic characterization of the temperate bacteriophage vB_BceS_KLEB30-3S (KLEB30-3S), which was induced from Bacillus cereus strain KR3M-30, isolated from a gypsum karst lake ecosystem in Lithuania. The 37,134-bp genome of KLEB30-3S contains 58 predicted protein-encoding genes and no tRNA genes.

From farmed corn soil in California, we isolated and sequenced a new member of the genus Massilia, Massilia sp. strain MC02. Massilia sp. MC02 has an assembled draft genome of 5,023,356 bp with a total of 4,790 protein-encoding genes and 3,028 predicted proteins, 47 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA operons.

Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis , was the leading cause of death from an infectious disease before COVID, yet the in vivo essentiality and function of many of the protein-encoding genes expressed by M. tuberculosis are not known. We biochemically characterize M. tuberculosis ’s phosphopantetheinyl hydrolase, PptH, a protein unique to mycobacteria that removes an essential posttranslational modification on proteins involved in synthesis of lipids important for the bacterium’s cell wall and virulence.

ABSTRACTAutotransporter (AT) protein-encoding genes of diarrheagenicEscherichia coli(DEC) pathotypes (cah, eatA,ehaABCDJ,espC,espI,espP,pet, pic, sat, andtibA) were detected in typical and atypical enteropathogenicE. coli(EPEC) in frequencies between 0.8% and 39.3%. Although these ATs have been described in particular DEC pathotypes, their presence in EPEC indicates that they should not be considered specific virulence markers.

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a multidrug-resistant bacterium causing many severe hospital-acquired infections. Here, we describe siphophage Sweeny that infects K. pneumoniae. Of its 78 predicted protein-encoding genes, a functional assignment was given to 36 of them. Sweeny is most closely related to T1-like phages at the protein level.

ABSTRACT We report here the draft genome sequence of Ezakiella peruensis strain M6.X2T. The draft genome is 1,672,788 bp long and harbors 1,589 predicted protein-encoding genes, including 26 antibiotic resistance genes with 1 gene encoding vancomycin resistance. The genome also exhibits 1 clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat region and 333 genes acquired by horizontal gene transfer.

ABSTRACT The spore-forming, thermophilic, and obligate anaerobic bacterium Moorella stamsii was isolated from digester sludge. Apart from its ability to use carbon monoxide for growth, M. stamsii harbors several enzymes for the use of different sugars. The draft genome has a size of 3,329 Mb and contains 3,306 predicted protein-encoding genes.

ABSTRACT Carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria (CP-GNB) have increasingly spread worldwide, and different families of carbapenemases have been identified in various bacterial species. Here, we report the identification of five VIM metallo-β-lactamase-producing Alcaligenes faecalis isolates associated with a small outbreak in a large hospital in Gaza, Palestine. Next-generation sequencing analysis showed bla VIM-2 is harbored by a chromosomal genomic island among three strains, while bla VIM-4 is carried by a novel plasmid in two strains.

ABSTRACT We present single-contig assemblies for Escherichia coli strain KV7 (serotype O27, phylogenetic group D) and its six plasmids, isolated from a healthy pig, as determined by PacBio RS II and Illumina MiSeq sequencing. The chromosome of 4,997,475 bp and G+C content of 50.75% harbored 4,540 protein-encoding genes.
