Abstract We identify 219 AdS4 solutions in four-dimensional dyonically gauged ISO(7) $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 8 supergravity and present some of their properties. One of the new solutions preserves $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1 supersymmetry and provides a rare explicit example of an AdS4 vacuum dual to a 3d SCFT with no continuous global symmetry. There are also two new non-supersymmetric solutions for which all 70 scalar fields in the supergravity theory have masses above the BF bound. All of these AdS4 solutions can be uplifted to massive type IIA supergravity. Motivated by this we present the low lying operator spectra of the dual 3d CFTs for all known supersymmetric AdS4 solutions in the theory and organize them into superconformal multiplets.

I begin with some memories of Abdus Salam who was my PhD supervisor. After reviewing the theory of nonlinear realisations and Kac–Moody algebras, I explain how to construct the nonlinear realisation based on the Kac–Moody algebra [Formula: see text] and its vector representation. I explain how this field theory leads to dynamical equations which contain an infinite number of fields defined on a space–time with an infinite number of coordinates. I then show that these unique dynamical equations, when truncated to low level fields and the usual coordinates of space–time, lead to precisely the equations of motion of 11-dimensional supergravity theory. By taking different group decompositions of [Formula: see text] we find all the maximal supergravity theories, including the gauged maximal supergravities, and as a result the nonlinear realisation should be thought of as a unified theory that is the low energy effective action for type II strings and branes. These results essentially confirm the [Formula: see text] conjecture given many years ago.

Abstract We study one-loop covariant effective action of “non-minimally coupled” $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1, d = 4 Einstein-Maxwell supergravity theory by heat kernel tool. By fluctuating the fields around the classical background, we study the functional determinant of Laplacian differential operator following Seeley-DeWitt technique of heat kernel expansion in proper time. We then compute the Seeley-DeWitt coefficients obtained through the expansion. A particular Seeley-DeWitt coefficient is used for determining the logarithmic correction to Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extremal black holes using quantum entropy function formalism. We thus determine the logarithmic correction to the entropy of Kerr-Newman, Kerr and Reissner-Nordström black holes in “non-minimally coupled” $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1, d = 4 Einstein-Maxwell supergravity theory.

The plethora of recent and forthcoming data on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data are stimulating a new wave of inflationary model-building. Naturalness suggests that the appropriate framework for models of inflation is supersymmetry. This should be combined with gravity in a supergravity theory, whose specific no-scale version has much to commend it, e.g. its derivation from string theory and the flat directions in its effective potential. Simple no-scale supergravity models yield predictions similar to those of the Starobinsky [Formula: see text] model, though some string-motivated versions make alternative predictions. Data are beginning to provide interesting constraints on the rate of inflaton decay into Standard Model particles. In parallel, LHC and other data provide significant constraints on no-scale supergravity models, which suggest that some sparticles might have masses close to present experimental limits.

The N=2 fermionic extensions of the KdV equations are derived from the zero curvature condition associated with the graded Lie algebra of OSp(2/2). These equations lead to two bi-Hamiltonian systems, one of which is supersymmetric. We also derive the one-parameter family of N=2 supersymmetric KdV equations without a bi-Hamiltonian structure in this approach. Following our earlier proposal, we interpret the zero curvature condition as a gauge anomaly equation which brings out the underlying current algebra for the corresponding 2D supergravity theory. This current algebra is then used to obtain the operator product expansions of various fields of this theory.

Abstract We prove that, for every 6D supergravity theory that has an F-theory description, the property of charge completeness for the connected component of the gauge group (meaning that all charges in the corresponding charge lattice are realized by massive or massless states in the theory) is equivalent to a standard assumption made in F-theory for how geometry encodes the global gauge theory by means of the Mordell-Weil group of the elliptic fibration. This result also holds in 4D F-theory constructions for the parts of the gauge group that come from sections and from 7-branes. We find that in many 6D F-theory models the full charge lattice of the theory is generated by massless charged states; this occurs for each gauge factor where the associated anomaly coefficient satisfies a simple positivity condition. We describe many of the cases where this massless charge sufficiency condition holds, as well as exceptions where the positivity condition fails, and analyze the related global structure of the gauge group and associated Mordell-Weil torsion in explicit F-theory models.
