We study possible effects induced by decoupled physics beyond the standard model on the decays [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] in the framework of effective Lagrangians. We consider only those dimension 6 [ SU L (2) × U Y (1)]-invariant fermionic operators that may be generated at tree level by the underlying physics. Using electroweak data, we get constraints on low energy new physics contributions to the partial widths [Formula: see text], including leptonic FCNC effects. We also discuss the underlying physics effects induced on [Formula: see text] of light fermions. In particular, we find a remarkable enhancement of the ēe, ūu and [Formula: see text] channels.
