We have investigated Uranium ions interaction at energy 14.0 MeV /u incident on a Vanadium target using mica as nuclear track detector. The detector exposure was made from ions beam facility at UNILAC accelerator of GSI Darmstadt, Germany. The etched detector was scanned using an optical microscope. From the total binary tracks data events, elastic track events were separated using angular correlation criterion. The elastic scattering data have been separated from the binary events and used for the determination of quarter-point angle θ1/4 (grazing angle). Total and partial reaction cross-sections are measured using the statistic of inelastic two-pronged and higher multiplicity tracks. The experimental measured cross-sections are compared with the cross-sections calculated using sharp cut-off model. The theoretical prediction of reaction parameters of interacting heavy ions have also been determined, that are comparable with experimental measured values.

Cross sections of the 174Hf(n,2n)173Hf and 176Hf(n,2n)175Hf reactions have been experimentally determined relative to the 27Al(n,α)24Na reference reaction at incident neutron energies of 15.3 and 17.1 MeV by means of the activation technique. The irradiations were carried out at the 5 MV tandem T11/25 Accelerator Laboratory of NCSR "Demokritos" with monoenergetic neutron beams provided via the 3H(d,n)4He reaction, using a new Ti-tritiated target of 373 GBq activity. In the determination of the 176Hf(n,2n)175Hf reaction cross section the contamination of the 174Hf(n,γ)175Hf and 177Hf(n,3n)175Hf reactions has been taken into account. Moreover, the neutron beam energy has been studied by means of Monte Carlo simulation codes and the neutron flux has been determined via the 27Al(n,α)24Na reference reaction.

The stacked foil activation technique and Ge(Li) γ-ray spectroscopy have been employed for the determination of the excitation functions, up to 60 MeV, of six reactions, 69Ga(α,n), (α,2n), (α,3n), (α,p3n); 71Ga(α,n) and (α,4n). Since natural gallium used as the target has two odd-mass stable isotopes of abundance, 69Ga(60.1%) and 71Ga(39.9%), their activation in some cases gives the same residual nucleus through different reaction channels, but with very different Q values. In such cases, the individual reaction cross sections are separated with the help of the ratio of their theoretical cross sections. A preliminary theoretical comparison with the preequilibrium geometry-dependent hybrid (GDH) model has been done using an initial exciton number no = 4 (2n + 2p + 0h), and general agreement was found for all reactions at high energies.

A Bendix time of flight mass spectrometer has been modified to enable the determination of some ion-molecule reaction cross sections in the energy range 1 — 100 eV.In the reactions studiedX+ + D2 → XD++Dwhere X may be Ar, N2 or CO, the results obtained agree with the predictions of the polarization theory in the range below 10 eV despite the fact that no intermediate complex is formed at these energies. Between about 10—50 eV where spectator stripping occurs the cross section follows an approximate E-l dependence. Above these energies the results are consistent with a transition to a region in which knock-on processes predominate and where an impulse approximation treatment would be valid.

AbstractThe elastic scattering in the reaction $$^{7}$$ 7 Li+$$^{208}$$ 208 Pb was investigated in the bombarding energy range from 25 to 39 MeV. The real and imaginary parts of the optical potential were analyzed by using a phenomenological potential. A dispersion relation analysis is presented in order to investigate the threshold anomaly effect. It is concluded that $$^{7}$$ 7 Li has an intermediate behavior between the tightly bound nuclei such as $$^{16}$$ 16 O and the loosely bound nuclei such as $$^{6}$$ 6 Li where the lack of the threshold anomaly is unambiguously observed. Reaction cross sections are also extracted from the elastic scattering data and its comparison with the ones of other systems has been performed to draw hints on the effect of the breakup channel.

In this letter, the necessity of a more precise estimation of the data on the reaction π-p → f2(1270)n → π0π0n is mentioned. The total cross-section σ(π-p → f2(1270)n) obtained from the data on the reaction π-p → π0π0n is shown to be approximately three times smaller than that following from the π-p → π+π-n data and also four times smaller than the prediction of the one-pion-exchange model. It is very important to resolve this disagreement because the results on the reaction π-p → f2(1270)n → π0π0n are used directly for the normalization of other reaction cross-sections and determination of branching ratios for some resonances.

This work deals with determination of location of micro fibers positions in fiber-reinforced concrete. The digital images of sectioned cement-paste samples with dimension equal to 40 × 40 mm were used as an information source about the monofilaments positions. Properly acquired digital image of high resolution allows to determinate the number of fibers in samples cross sections and relate theirs coordinates to any point. Optical microscope Carl Zeiss Axio Zoom.V16 with camera and software allowing individual shots composition of examined samples surface was used to obtain these parameters. Cement pastes reinforced with PET (polyethylene terephthalate) micro fibers having diameter equal to 0.4 mm were studied. The total number and the fibers distribution along the height and width of the sample cross section were examined.

In the current study, the bulk etch rate VBof solid state nuclear track detectors SSNTDs CR-39 have been examined at different concentrations of NaOH solution ranged from 4N to 8N and different temperatures of NaOH solution (50, 60, 70, 80°C) for various time intervals of etching (1-10 h); this is done by determination of mass variation via etching time. The results indicate that the bulk etch rate VBincreases with the increase of etchant solution concentration and the temperature of solution. This can be attributed to the increase the thickness of the removed layers h of the detector.
