In this work, the titanium dioxide ([Formula: see text]) nanofilms co-doped with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] ions were successfully fabricated by the sol–gel method with dip-coating process. Methylene blue was used as the target degradation chemical to study the photocatalytic properties affected by different doping contents of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] ions. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The results indicated that both pure [Formula: see text] nanofilms and single-doped samples possessed the photocatalytic activity in degradation of methylene blue. However, when the nanofilms co-doped with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] ions were fabricated at the molar ratio of 3:1 ([Formula: see text]:[Formula: see text]), they exhibited the best photocatalytic activity after the heat treatment at [Formula: see text]C for 2[Formula: see text]h. The wettability property test indicated that the [Formula: see text] nanofilms co-doped with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] ions in the molar ratio 3:1 owned an excellent hydrophilic property.

A series of TiO2/SiO2 photocatalysts were successfully synthesized by the sol-gel method. The TiO2/SiO2 monolith was also synthesized by dip-coating process. The crystalline structure of TiO2/SiO2 powders was identified as pure anatase. The photocatalytic activity of the TiO2/SiO2 powders was evaluated by photodegradation of 20 ppm methylene blue (MB) using a 26W lamp which has the wavelength in the visible light region under different Ti: Si molar ratios and calcination temperatures. The TiO2/SiO2 powders which have Ti: Si molar ratio of 85:15 (TS15) and calcined at 550tC showed the highest photodegradation yield of 84 % after 3h irradiation. Furthermore, the 550˚C calcined TS15 monolith performed the MB degradation yield of 88.9 % after 3h irradiation and its photoactivity still remained after 4 recycle times. The results of this study demonstrated that the TS15 monolith photocatalyst has a reasonable efficiency in the degradation of methylene blue, it could be a promising photocatalyst for removal and degradation of organic pollutants.

Nanocomposite Fe3O4-CuO-ZnO with different molar ratio of Fe3O4:CuO:ZnO were synthesized using sol-gel method and characterized by X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscope, UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer. The characterization results manifested that the combination of Fe3O4, CuO and ZnO nanoparticles was successful. The photocatalytic activity of nanocomposite with the molar ratio of 1:1:5 was more effective in the degradation of methylene blue under UV light irradiation than pure Fe3O4, CuO, ZnO. The role of photoactive species involved in the photocatalytic reaction was studied and found that holes play the most important role in photodegradation of methylene blue.

To study the preparation of Fe3+/Ag+ co-doped TiO2 photocatalyst with sol-gel auto-igniting method, TiO2 powder was prepared with TiCl4 as raw material and the photocatalytic activity of doped TiO2 was examined with methylene blue (MB) as water samples, and a 15w low pressure mercury lamp as light source. Results showed that: the TiO2 co-doped with 0.02% (molar ratio) of Fe3+ and 0.5% (molar ratio) of Ag+ gives the highest photocatalytic activity. The according photodegradation rate constant of MB is 1.33 and 1.10 times of that with TiO2 and Fe/TiO2 separately.

The photocatalytic materials were prepared by sol–gel method: the main raw materials were tetrabutyltitanate and the lanthanum nitrate hexahydrate, bentonite was the carrier to support TiO2.The properties of the composites were characterized by specific surface area (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). The photocatalytic degradation of cyanide waste water was used to assess the photocatalytic activity of the materials. The experimental results showed that the suitable content of lanthanum and roasted temperature could improve the photocatalytic activity. When the composites were roasted at 400 °C and the molar ratio of La to Ti was 1%, the photocatalyst reached optimal performance.

Nickel oxide (NiO) thin films were successfully deposited by sol-gel dip-coating method on glass substrates. The structural, morphological and optical properties in addition to the photocatalytic activity of the prepared films were investigated. The results show that the films have a polycrystalline NiO cubic structure with dense NiO grains and average optical transmittance in the visible region. The photocatalytic properties of the films were studied through the degradation of methylene blue and 89% of degradation was achieved for 4.5h of solar light irradiation exposure which indicates the capability of NiO photocatalytic activity.

Abstract Quaternary semiconductor Cu2NiSnS4 thin film was made by the sol-gel method associated to dip-coating technique on ordinary glass substrates. In this paper, we have studied the impact of dip-coating cycle at different cycles: 4, 5 and 6 on the structural, compositional, morphological, optical and electrical characteristics. CNTS thin films have been analyzed by various characterization techniques including: X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Raman measurements, scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDS), UV-visible spectroscopy and four-point probe method. XRD spectra demonstrated the formation of cubic Cu2NiSnS4 with privileged orientation at (111) plane. Crystallite size of cubic CNTS thin films increase with from 6.30 to 9.52 with dip-coating cycle augmented. Raman scattering confirmed the existence of CNTS thin films by Raman vibrational mode positioned at 332 cm− 1. EDS investigations showed near-stoichiometry of CNTS sample deposited at 5 cycles. Scanning electron microscope showed uniform surface morphologies without any crack. UV-visible spectroscopy indicated that the optical absorption values are larger than 104 cm− 1, Estimated band gap energy of CNTS absorber layers decrease from 1.64 to 1.5 eV with dip-coating cycle increased. The electrical conductivity of CNTS thin films increase from 0.19 to 4.16 (Ω cm)-1. These characteristics are suitable for solar cells applications.

The aim of this study was to develop a multifunctional biomedical coating that is highly corrosion resistant, biocompatible, and reveals the bioactive properties. For that purpose, titanium dioxide coatings doubly-doped with Ca and Ag ions were deposited by dip-coating onto M30NW biomedical steel. The influence of different ratios of Ca and Ag dopants on morphology, surface structure, corrosion resistance, bioactivity, wettability, and biological properties of TiO2-based sol-gel coatings was studied and discussed. Comprehensive measurements were performed including atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray reflectivity (XRR), corrosion tests, immersion test, contact angle, as well as biological evaluation. The obtained results confirmed that anatase-based coatings containing Ca and Ag ions, independently of their molar ratio in the coating, are anticorrosive, hydrophilic, and bioactive. The results of the biological evaluation indicated that investigated coatings are biocompatible and do not reduce the proliferation ability of the osteoblasts cells.
