A NOVEL GREEN LONG-LASTING PHOSPHOR Ca2ZnSi2O7:Eu2+

A new green emitting long-lasting phosphor Ca2ZnSi2O7:Eu2+ has been synthesized through the high temperature solid-state method. The excitation spectrum of [Formula: see text] shows a broadband attributed to 8S7/2–4f65d1 transition of Eu2+ ions. Both of the fluorescence and phosphorescence spectra showed a broadband centered at 528 nm, corresponding the only one Ca2+ site in Ca2ZnSi2O7 . The relationship of emission wavelength and Eu–O distance is investigated. Its afterglow can be seen with the naked eye in the dark clearly for 2 h after removal of the excitation source. Oxygen vacancy [Formula: see text] and zinc vacancy [Formula: see text], two different kinds of traps are proposed and their contrary influence on afterglow is discussed.

AbstractNovel luminescent materials Ca3-xSi2O7: xPr3+ were successfully prepared by the high-temperature solid-state method. The crystal structure, morphology, and optical spectrum were characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and spectroscopy, respectively. The XRD patterns of the samples indicate that the crystal structure is monoclinic symmetry. The SEM shows that the selected sample has good crystallinity although its appearance is irregular and scalelike. The peak of the excitation spectrum of the sample is located at around 449 nm, corresponding to 3H4→3P2 transition of Pr3+. The peak of the emission spectrum of the sample is situated at around 612 nm which is attributed to 3P0→3H6 transition of Pr3+, and the colour is orange-red. The optimum concentration for Pr3+ replaced Ca2+ sites in Ca3Si2O7: Pr3+ is 0.75 mol%. The lifetime (8.48 μs) of a typical sample (Ca2.9925Pr0.0075)Si2O7 is obtained. It reveals that orange-red phosphors Ca3-xSi2O7: xPr3+ possess remarkable optical properties and can be used in white light emitting devices.


Part I. The Medulla Oblongata, And Its Variations Acoording To Diet And Feeding Habits In previous communications to this Society the relationship of the habits of feeding and diet to the form and pattern of the medulla oblongata has been described in the cyprinoids, clupeids, and gadoids (Evans, 1931, 1932, 1935). This research takes up a similar study of the brain of the Pleuronectidae. The expense has been borne by a grant from the Royal Society for which the author tenders his grateful thanks. It has seemed to be desirable to extend the observations to the fore- and mid-brain, as in some members of the family these present a very marked development. In order to elucidate some of the problems that arise I have also studied the brain of the eel, and some interesting conclusions have resulted. We find, as a result of examination by the naked eye and of serial sections, that we can divide the following species into four groups as follows: I. The sole, Solea vulgaris .

AbstractFrom the fluorescence and phosphorescence spectra of several aromatic amines it is concluded that the conjugation between nitrogen and aryl groups in the excited state is restricted. With this result a sterical explanation for the lack of the expected photochemical carbazole ring closure of 1-and 2-anilino naphthalene is given.
