With the improvement of living standard, consumers have higher requirements on functions of cosmetics. Nanocarrier systems can offer remarkable features and have potential in targeted-oriented active molecule delivery. In order to improve the functions of cosmetics, nanocarrier system has been widely used in cosmetics. Nanoemulsions, liposomes and nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) have attracted considerable attention as three main nanocarrier systems for cosmetics and personal care products. They have a lot of advantages such as improving stability, improving tissue macrophages distribution, increasing solubility, bioavailability, protection of actives from toxicity, enhancing pharmacological activity and intracellular uptake, targeted delivery and sustained delivery. In this paper, the definition, classification and micro-structure of these three carriers were reviewed. The applications of nanoemulsions, liposomes and NLCs in cosmetics were discussed. The beneficial aspects of nanoemulsions, liposomes and NLCs in cosmetics are very broad. They have very promising future for the delivery of cosmetic active components/ingredients and for the production of high-quality cosmetics.

Macrophages play an important role in the regulation of inflammation and immune response as well as the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory diseases and cancer. Therefore, targeted delivery of therapeutic reagents to macrophages is an effective method for treatment and diagnosis. We previously examined the therapeutic applications of polyrotaxanes (PRXs) comprised of multiple cyclodextrins (CDs) threaded on a polymer chain and capped with bulky stopper molecules. In the present study, we designed an α-d-mannose-modified α-CD/poly(ethylene glycol)-based PRX (Man-PRX). The intracellular uptake of Man-PRX through the interaction with macrophage mannose receptor (MMR) in macrophage-like RAW264.7 cells was examined. Intracellular Man-PRX uptake was observed in MMR-positive RAW264.7 cells but was negligible in MMR-negative NIH/3T3 cells. In addition, the intracellular Man-PRX uptake in RAW264.7 cells was significantly inhibited in the presence of free α-d-mannose and an anti-MMR antibody, which suggests that MMR is involved in the intracellular uptake of Man-PRX. Moreover, the polarization of RAW264.7 cells affected the Man-PRX internalization efficiency. These results indicate that Man-PRX is an effective candidate for selective targeting of macrophages through a specific interaction with the MMR.

The review deals with the properties of fullerenes and their derivatives and the possibility of their use in biology and medicine. Fullerenes can exert an antioxidant effect in biological systems, catching active forms of oxygen, and oxidative, giving the fullerene photosensitizing properties. The lipophilic fullerene molecules possessing membrane - tropic action interact with various biological structures and can change the functions of these structures, increasing the lipophilicity of the active molecule (amino acids, nucleic acids, proteins, etc.). Data on the biological effect of fullerenes in in vitro and in vivo experiments are given. Examples of targeted delivery of known therapeutic agents. The inability of young adults to adapt to university life has been attributed to their declining resilience. Resilience refers to any individuals’ capacity to change or modify behaviour in response to environmental hazards, so they thrive. Outdoor Adventure (OA) residential programmes have helped higher education inductees to acquire skills associated with resilience such as increased self-perception, better interpersonal relationships. However, this study addresses important gaps in existing literature by deploying a high-quality research design to examine the short-term impact of OA experiences on inductees’ resilience and to identify the active components of those experiences that best cultivate inductees’ adaptive capabilities. Multivariate analyses evaluated the efficacy of OA programming to build the resilience of over 2500 inductees. Significant positive gains were reported in the resilience of inductees attending 1-week residential OA programmes measured by an Effect size (ES) = 0.38 and 6.29% increase. Compared to students inducted at university, this represented an 8.35% greater increase in resilience (ES difference = –0.526). Camp-based experiences such as mastering new skills, developing new relationships and being female predicted heightened resilience. A defined blend of embodied, adventure-based meaningful challenges provides a template for helping university inductees to re-adjust, grow and persevere.

Kindergarten education is a significant project which is closely related to the future development of the nation and its people's livelihood. With the development of our economy and the improvement of people’s living standard, the demand for high-quality pre-school education is increasing sharply among parents. Unfortunately, present development of kindergartens in our country is far behind the increasing demand of pre-school education which results in the phenomenon of “kindergarten enrollment difficulty” in numerous cities. In the investigation, it is found that planning and layout of kindergartens, shortcomings of their own development and related policies are the factors that interact with each other thus leading to the problem. To deal with those factors, we put up with a set of theoretical models from the angle of planning in the hope that these models can serve as reference for relieving the problem of “kindergarten enrollment difficulty”.

Some organic crystalline solids that comprise highly polar molecules and that form non-centrosymmetric crystal structures exhibit second-order nonlinear optical properties and laser-damage thresholds that are potentially superior to those of currently available inorganic systems. This realization has led to a search for organic materials with improved properties and also to the consideration of organic crystals as active components in optical and optoelectronic device systems. Empirical and theoretical attempts have been made to predict novel molecules, which when synthesized might form, or be engineered to form, non-centrosymmetric crystals of even greater potential than the known systems. In parallel, efforts have been made to grow high quality, optically perfect, single crystals for the evaluation of the optical properties and device potential of this class of material. Data obtained on the resulting range of materials and crystals serve to confirm this potential.

Rhododendron is one of the plants with the broadest spectrum species, the most extended history of traditional medicine use, and the wide range of pharmacological properties. In 2013, a report was published to summarize the studies reported from 1898 to 2012. Many phytochemical compounds and their various treatment effects of over 40 Rhododendron species were mentioned in the present review. This review aims to evaluate the newly discovered and observed phytochemical compounds in recent years and their activities in some Rhododendron species.

Proton and deuteron double resonance methods have been used to study the structure of high quality plasma-deposited a-Si:H,D and a-Ge:H,D films. The micro-structure of the a-Si is dominated by nanovoids with dimension <3 Å while the a-Ge shows many larger microvoids. We have observed new proton HD multiple echoes in the films by using a three pulse sequence double resonance method. The new echoes imply that HD molecules in a-Ge principally are located in large microvoids, which is not the case in high quality a-Si.
