Data in the West Kalimantan Figures (BPS) in 2010, there were 34 sub-districts in the West Kalimantan coastal area with a total area of 20,066 Km2 and a population of 1,100,000 people or 25% of the projected total of 4.4 million residents of West Kalimantan. Means that people who live in coastal areas including small islands have become the majority concentration on the distribution of the population of West Kalimantan, while having a close relationship with access to potential marine and coastal resources and environmental use. In the Strategic Plan of the West Kalimantan Regional Disaster Management Agency 2013-3018 (2) states that the inhibiting and driving factors are in disaster management in West Kalimantan due to the absence of hazard-prone mapping and safe disaster mapping, especially in coastal areas. The purpose of this research is to find out and analyze the level of disaster vulnerability in the District of Mempawah Hilir. The data collection method used is to determine aspects and indicators of capacity assessment of disasters in the District of Mempawah Hilir. From the results of the assessment of factors A to factor E, it can be concluded that the level of capacity of each village in Mempawah District is still very low. This low capacity value is dominated in villages in Sungai Kunyit and Siantan Districts. Villages that have moderate capacity value are Kuala Secapah Village, Pasir Village, Sengkubang Village and Jungkat Village. Overall villages in Mempawah sub-district are still low on the early warning factor and disaster risk assessment and preparedness development factors on all lines.

The coastal neighborhood of Pasie Nan Tigo, city of Padang after the earthquake of 2007 and 2009 is threatened by various disasters. Therefore, the efforts should be made in comprehensive way to reduce the risk of the disasters through community participation. The study conducted by Haryani (2013) on the mitigation efforts in coastal areas shows that the environmental revitalization with active disaster mitigation model needed to be done before the disaster occurred. The method used in the revitalization of disaster mitigation in coastal areas is the Active Hazard Mitigation Model (non-physical) with community participation and Passive Mitigation Models (physical) with community empowerment. The results of the study are that the communities of the coastal areas, Pasir Nan Tiga have a better knowledge and understanding on the threat of coastal disasters and on the disaster mitigation. In addition, the communities also have a better knowledge on the importance of revitalizing the market place and settlements after the earthquake. The results of the implementation of passive mitigation models to the community empowerment are: (a) basic map / forum administration, (b) a map of evacuation routes, (c) a map of problems mainly related to the disaster, (d) a disaster vulnerability map of Pasie Nan Tigo Village, and (e) trees-barriers to avoid erosion / abrasion in the coastal neighborhood of Pasie Nan Tigo, city of Padang.

Data obtained from licenses of spearfishers and surveys conducted in 2004 and 2017 allowed for the analysis, for the first time, of the practice of spearfishing in the Madeira archipelago. Only a small percentage of the population practices spearfishing, mostly local young men. Most of them practice the activity with a partner throughout most of the year and along most of the island's coastal areas, although preferentially along the North and Southeast coast. Results show how, in recent years, despite the population of spearfishers decreasing, the abundance in the annual catch potentially increased, probably due to the higher investment of time in this activity. It has been observed that many fishers complement their catches with manual collecting of invertebrates. Overall, 40 teleost fishes and also 4 crustaceans and 8 molluscs were identified. The most frequently captured fish species were parrotfish and white seabream, while limpets were the most collected invertebrates in both selected periods.

Hormonal treatment of cows at the coastal region of Barisal district of Bangladesh was performed to assess the improvement of pregnancy rate. A total of 100 cows and heifers with irregular history of cyclicity were selected randomly and divided into five treatment groups. The groups were A (treated with anthelmintic), B (treated with anthelmintic, vitamin ADE and multivitamin powder), C (treated with PGF2α), D (treated with GnRH) and E (treated with GnRH and PGF2α). Each group comprised of 20 animals. The age, breed and parity of experimental cows were considered during treatment. In the study, the cows treated with both GnRH and PGF2α (group E) showed significantly (p<0.05) higher estrus (80%) and pregnancy rate (60%) than that of group A, B, C and D. The overall estrus rates of local and crossbred cows were 64% and 70%, respectively and the pregnancy rates were 40 and 52%, respectively. The crossbred cows responded significantly (p<0.05) to hormonal treatment than that of local cows. Parity-2 cows showed higher estrus sign than that of other parities. However, the pregnancy rates were higher significantly (p<0.05) in parity-2 and parity ≥4 cows than that of parity-0, parity-1 and parity-3 cows. The pregnancy rate was also found higher in case of 4 to <5 years old cows than that of 2 to <3, 3 to <4, 5 to <6, and ≥6 years old. It may conclude that the hormonal regimen increases the pregnancy rate as well as decreases the undesired waiting of estrus and conception. Further study with more sample size will reveal the more effective treatment for cows at the coastal areas of Bangladesh.
