FORMAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND EMPOWERMENT OF THE FISHING COMMUNITY IN TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA

Background and Purpose: Efforts in bringing about changes to fishers' lives are often met with obstacles due to their lack of participation in empowerment programmes as well as their excessive reliance on external assistance. However, such situations are said to be the results of their level of education and work experience. This paper also examines the relationship between work experience with empowerment and formal education as a control variable to the relationship. Therefore, this paper aims to observe the reality of empowerment among fishing communities from the lens of participation and self-reliance among fishers in Terengganu, Malaysia. Concurrently, this study also reviews the theme mentioned above from the lens of formal education and work experience and their impacts on the fishing community empowerment. Methodology: This study used a survey design and involved 220 coastal fishers, who were identified through multi-stage sampling. Data were gathered using a questionnaire, and data analysis was done through descriptive statistics and the Analysis of Variance Test (ANCOVA). Findings: The empowerment of the fishing community in this study is not influenced by the number of years they have spent as fishers. On the other hand, their level of education plays a pertinent influence on their empowerment. Such a finding clearly shows that experience is not only a major factor in increasing the empowerment of the fishing community. Contributions: This study contributes to our understanding that it is undeniably true that formal and informal education play an integral role in empowering the fishing community, where through education, fishers are more participative in their community and exhibit autonomy towards their work. The model of community empowerment in fire forest disaster prevention in Indonesia

This paper will look into the topic of community involvement in forest fire disaster prevention, specifically in Indonesia. To begin, the paper will discuss the problem of forest fires in Indonesia, which occur frequently. The study also addressed issues related to disaster management, such as a lack of competence and knowledge, which resulted in disaster management ineffectiveness. The paper's third portion discusses the government's involvement in catastrophe management. Several initiatives and support have been implemented.

The Development of the Concept of Social Capital

Social capital is assumed as an alternative form of other modalities. Theoretically, there is a debate about social capital leading to social relations. The debate relates to the conceptualization of social capital as concrete capital where individuals or groups are able to utilize social relations including values, social networks and trust to obtain economic benefits and social benefits. Using a qualitative approach with a literature study method, this article aims to explain social capital as a theoretical concept. The presentation of the study shows that there is a relationship between social capital and inclusiveness and community empowerment, especially in the context of sustainable inclusive development. This article concludes that the concept of social capital serves as a useful framework for successful development and policy formulation.

Penggunaan Mesin Sebagai Upaya Peningkatan Produktivitas Pembuatan Enting Jahe dan Enting Kacang di Kampung Kungkuk Kota Wisata Batu Provinsi Jawa Timur

This Community Service raises the business of Enting Ginger and Enting Kacang, Dusun Kungkuk, Punten Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City. The village is famous for its apple farming, one of which is Punten Village. With cold weather conditions, making apples thrive in the area and as one of the livelihoods of the residents of Kungkuk hamlet. For five years (2005-2010), there was a decline in the production of apple commodities which brought social impacts such as the children of apple farmers who went to school unable to continue their education and were forced to stop their education at the junior high or high school level, because there was no more money to continue their education. This kind of phenomenon spurred Mrs. Yayuk Murniwati to establish a non-apple product processing business in the form of enting, namely ginger and peanut enting. However, this business is still not developed due to limited capital and machines owned. The method to be applied is the method of community empowerment for homemakers to increase the productivity and independence of partners economically and socially through counseling and mentoring efforts. Assistance or introduction of tools in ginger and peanut grinding machines for making entings and packaging machines helped them advance and develop their business.ABSTRAKPengabdian Masyarakat ini mengangkat Usaha Enting Jahe dan Enting Kacang Dusun Kungkuk Desa Punten Kecamatan Bumiaji Kota Batu. Desa yang terkenal dengan pertanian apel, salah satunya Desa Punten. Dengan kondisi cuaca yang dingin, membuat apel tumbuh subur di daerah tersebut dan sebagai salah satu mata pencaharian warga dusun Kungkuk. Selama 5 tahun (2005-2010) terjadi penurunan produksi komoditas apel yang membawa dampak sosial seperti para anak petani apel yang sekolah tidak dapat melanjutkan pendidikan dan terpaksa menghentikan jenjang pendidikannya pada tingkat SMP ataupun SMA, karena sudah tidak ada lagi biaya untuk melanjutkan pendidikan. Fenomena semacam ini memacu ibu Yayuk Murniwati untuk mendirikan usaha olahan produk non-apel berupa enting yaitu enting jahe dan enting kacang. Namun, usaha ini masih belum berkembang dikarenakan keterbatasan modal dan mesin yang dimiliki. Metode yang akan diterapkan yaitu metode pemberdayaan masyarakat kelompok ibu rumah tangga dalam upaya peningkatan produktivitas dan kemandirian mitra secara ekonomi, sosial melalui usaha penyuluhan dan pendampingan. Bantuan ataupun perkenalan alat berupa mesin penggiling jahe dan kacang untuk proses pembuatan enting serta mesin pengemasan sangat membantu mereka dalam memajukan dan mengembangkan usaha.

Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Berbasis Komunitas Zakat Pada Masa Pandemi Di Desa Kahayya, Kabupaten Bulukumba

Zakat as one of the institutions in Islam, has a spiritual dimension and covers many aspects of community empowerment that include various aspects such as economic, social, health, education and religion, especially in the event of a pandemic. One of the community empowerment programs by zakat institutions is Zakat Community Development. One of the community empowerments programs by zakat institutions in this research to find out and analyze the concept of empowerment in the form of Zakat Community Development during the pandemic in Kahayya Village, Bulukumba Regency. The method in this study is qualitatively descriptive by finding detailed information related to the Zakat Community Development program in Kahayya Village, Bulukumba Regency. The results of this study show that several programs have been implemented covering various aspects such as socioeconomic, health, education and religion. In the field of health, disinfectant narrowing, vaccination programs, provision of handwashing, distribution of masks and hand sanitizers to socialization related to the prevention of the spread of the covid-19 virus to the community. Similarly, in the world of education, through ZCD is done the reactivation of reading parks and the development of ICT-based libraries. Socialization in pondok tahfidz as a preventive measure of transmission and healthy life is part of religious empowerment so that students can still learn religion. Especially in the economic aspects formed by several SME communities, namely farmers groups that develop AGROWISATA and horticulture, Kahayya coffee SMEs and honey mustika Kahayya SME groups.Zakat sebagai salah satu pranata dalam Islam, memiliki dimensi spiritual serta mencakup banyak aspek pemberdayaan masyarakat yang meliputi berbagai aspek seperti ekonomi, sosial, kesehatan, pendidikan dan agama, khususnya pada saat terjadi pandemi. Salah satu program pemberdayaan masyarakat oleh lembaga zakat adalah Zakat Community Development. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui serta menganalisis konsep pemberdayaan berupa Zakat Community Development pada masa pandemi di Desa Kahayya, Kabupaten Bulukumba. Metode pada penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan menemukan informasi secara detail terkait program Zakat Community Development di Desa Kahayya, Kabupaten Bulukumba. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa telah dilaksanakan beberapa program yang meliputi berbagai aspek seperti sosial ekonomi, kesehatan, pendidikan maupun keagamaan. Pada bidang kesehatan dilakukan penyemprotan desinfektan, program vaksinasi, penyediaan tempat cuci tangan, pembagian masker dan hand sanitizer hingga sosialisasi terkait pencegahan penyebaran virus covid-19 kepada masyarakat. Demikian pula pada dunia pendidikan, melalui ZCD dilakukan pengaktifan kembali taman baca serta pengembangan perpustakaan berbasis TIK. Sosialisasi di Pondok Tahfidz sebagai langkah pencegahan penularan dan hidup sehat merupakan bagian dari pemberdayaan keagamaan agar santri tetap dapat belajar agama. Terkhusus pada aspek ekonomi yang terbentuk beberapa komunitas UKM yaitu kelompok tani yang mengembangkan AGROWISATA dan holtikultura, UKM Kopi Kahayya serta kelompok UKM Madu Mustika Kahayya.

Community Empowerment to Improve the Village Economy through the Utilization of Tea Leaves in Bahbutong Village, Simalungun Regency

The community empowerment program is an activity that aims to increase the understanding and knowledge of the community in utilizing the existing potential. The level of understanding and knowledge of the community in Bahbutong Village is still limited in carrying out activities to utilize the potential of the village, this is related to the not optimal community empowerment efforts carried out. One of the potentials that can be pursued and reprocessed so as to get direct benefits that can be felt by the village community is tea leaves. So far, people only know that tea leaves are only for food and drink, so they have not been able to make a big contribution to the village economy. Utilization of tea leaves in Bahbutong Village can be an effort to improve the village economy through community empowerment activities carried out by the village government. The tea leaves in question are unused leaves or leftovers from tea plantations in Bahbutong Village. The method used in this research is the participatory rural appraisal (PRA) method. The results obtained in this study are new innovations in the use of tea leaves, namely the manufacture of tea aromatherapy candles that can provide relaxation for breathing and can also optimize community empowerment programs so that the village economy can increase

Guidance of Self-protection efforts during the covid-19 pandemic, through community empowerment activities in Kasugengan Kidul Village, Depok Cirebon

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia continues increasing significantly, even positive cases reached up to 235,173,857 people. The existence of Student Work Study (KKM) activities is expected to make a positive contribution during the Covid-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia. In connection with the condition of the spread of Covid-19 which is still increasing, KKM implementation activities in Kesugengan Kidul village, Depok Subdistrict, Cirebon Regency must certainly be creative in order to stay safe and the purpose of activities is achieved. Starting from student fielding and data collection of partnership problems by applying health protocols properly. The method of carrying out activities is carried out with various efforts, including by providing education through leaflets, brochures, sticking brochures on the walls of elementary schools, by limiting the implementation of learning activities, provide education and examples of vitamins both tablets and derived from fruit in the form of nutritious foods that the body needs during the Covid-19 pandemic, even educating through door to door method to local citizen. Expectation of understanding and insight of citizens in the place of KKM partnerships are increasing about the prevention of Covid-19. The results and benefits of KKM activities towards partnerships include increasing public awareness of the prevention of Covid-19, one of which understands the importance of using masks, especially 2-layer masks. The community is more cooperative towards the efforts and programs of village officials to prevent the increase in the spread of the Covid-19 virus, increased citizen insight in partnership on vitamins needed and useful to increase endurance to fight covid-19 and discipline to implement health protocols in an effort to prevent and suppress the spread of Covid-19 in the partnership area of Kesugengan Kidul Village, Depok Subdistrict, Cirebon Regency.

Community Empowerment In The Selection of Contraception Equipment For Women of Worthy Age in Benteng Village

In general, family planning can be defined as an effort to regulate the number of pregnancies in such a way that it will have a positive impact on the mother, baby, father and family concerned and will not cause harm as a direct result of the pregnancy. Family planning is an attempt to regulate the population or the use of methods to regulate fertilization to help a person or family achieve certain goals. The purpose referred to here is an intentional arrangement of pregnancy by the family, which is not against the applicable laws or regulations and also the morals of Pancasila and for the welfare of the family. Giving understanding to couples of childbearing age that there are various kinds of contraceptives and their benefits, so that people can choose any contraceptive that suits the individual. With more benefits than side effects, especially to keep the pregnancy distance, and a prosperous family can be achieved. It is hoped that with careful family planning, pregnancy is something that is really expected so that it will avoid the act of terminating a pregnancy with abortion. Ciamis Regency is in the province of West Java, where the area is directly adjacent to two regencies, namely Banjar and Tasikmalaya. Its location in the center of the city makes the Benteng village not like a village in general.

Pembentukan Kelompok Centing (Cegah Stunting ) Melalui Kegiatan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat di Puskesmas Wilayah Rangkah

ABSTRAKKekurangan gizi pada masa Balita akan dapat menyebabkan gangguan serius bagi perkembangan otak yang mengakibatkan tingkat kecerdasan anak terhambat. Di Puskesmas Rangkah masih ditemukan 37 Balita Gizi Buruk dan belum adanya kelompok masyarakat yang memperhatikan pada pencegahan stunting pada Balita. Metode dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah dengan pembentukan kelompok cegah stunting, Pemberian materi dan pendampingan dalam melakukan pengukuran TB/PB terhadap umur. Hasil Pengabdian Masyarakat telah terbentuk Kader Cegah Stuting (CENTING) sebanyak 40 orang, Ada peningkatan nilai terendah, tertinggi, dan rata-rata pengetahuan peserta pelatihan serta sebagian besar (77,5%) memiliki nilai 79-100, Nilai rata-rata keterampilan peserta dalam Pengukuran TB/PB dibanding umur untuk deteksi stunting adalah 42,5 % (Baik). Pembentukan kelompok CENTING (Cegah Stunting) merupakan salah satu upaya untuk mencegah stunting di wilayah Puskesmas rangkah. Dengn adanya pelatihan bagi masyarakat yang menjadi kelompok CENTING (Cegah stunting), maka diharapkan adanya pemberdayaan masyarakat dalam menurunkan angka stunting di Surabaya, khususnya di wilayah Puskesmas Rangkah, Kecamatan Tambaksari, Surabaya. At the Rangkah Health Center, 37 Malnourished Toddlers were still found and there were no community groups that paid attention to stunting prevention in Toddlers. The method in this community service activity is the formation of a stunting prevention group, providing materials and assistance in measuring TB/PB for age. the average knowledge of the trainees and most of them (77.5%) had a score of 79-100. The average value of participants' skills in measuring TB/PB compared to age for stunting detection was 42.5% (Good). The formation of the CENTING (Prevent Stunting) group is one of the efforts to prevent stunting in the framework of the health center. With training for people who are members of the CENTING (Prevent stunting) group, it is hoped that there will be community empowerment in reducing stunting rates in Surabaya, especially in the Rangkah Health Center area, Tambaksari District, Surabaya.
