Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) was synthesized at 520°C by the pyrolysis of cyanamide, dicyandiamide, and melamine. The samples were characterized by X–ray diffraction (XRD), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and elemental analyzer. The photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4was evaluated by the photodegrading experiments of methylene blue (MB). The results indicated that g-C3N4. A photocatalytic mechanism presumed the MB photodegradation over the C3N4photocatalyst is attributed to photogenerated electron impelled multistep reduction of O2.

In this work, copper oxide (CuO) nano-rice structure was prepared by hydrothermal method. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), and UV-visible spectrophotometer. CuO nano-rice structure showed high photocatalytic activity towards degradation of methylene blue (MB). Hydrothermally growth of CuO provided uniformly distributed nano-rice structures with high degradation efficiency (90.41%) and rate constant (kt) 16.6 × 10-2 min-1 for methylene blue degradation.

Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is synthesized quickly at room temperature in methanol with the support of ultrasound. Porous ZnO is also prepared via the thermal treatment of ZIF-8. The photocatalytic activities of the obtained materials are demonstrated via methylene blue (MB) decomposition under UV radiation. The obtained materials are characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DR-UV-Vis), and photoluminescence spectra. The results indicate that ZIF-8 and the materials obtained from ZIF-8 by heating in the air have photocatalytic activity under UV irradiation. The ZnO sample obtained by ZIF-8 calcination at 660°C for 5 h has the highest photocatalytic activity. However, the MB degradation photocatalytic efficiency of the ZnO samples is even lower than that of the ZIF-8 samples, indicating that ZIF-8 is an effective photocatalyst in the treatment of environmental pollution.

Composite ZnO/CuO was prepared by direct formation of ZnO from Zn(OOCCH3)2 precursor in the presence of CuO with the assistant of the microwave system. The obtained composite was characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Ultraviolet–Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS), which shows that the composite with a bandgap of 3.27 eV contains two components, ZnO and CuO. The photocatalytic activity of ZnO/CuO was assessed by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) in water under visible light, shows that the photocatalytic activity for the ZnO/CuO composite was remarkably improved compared to single ZnO and CuO. This result is attributed to the reduced recombination rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs by the presence of CuO in the composite, therefore photocatalysis activity increases.

Nanocomposite Fe3O4-CuO-ZnO with different molar ratio of Fe3O4:CuO:ZnO were synthesized using sol-gel method and characterized by X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscope, UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer. The characterization results manifested that the combination of Fe3O4, CuO and ZnO nanoparticles was successful. The photocatalytic activity of nanocomposite with the molar ratio of 1:1:5 was more effective in the degradation of methylene blue under UV light irradiation than pure Fe3O4, CuO, ZnO. The role of photoactive species involved in the photocatalytic reaction was studied and found that holes play the most important role in photodegradation of methylene blue.

In this work, TiO2 nanoparticles containing different amounts of cobalt were synthesized by sol-gel method using titanium (IV) isopropoxide and cobalt chloride as titanium and cobalt precursors, respectively. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed prepared samples include 100% anatase phase. The presence of cobalt in TiO2 nanoparticle network was established by XRD, scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (SEM-EDX), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and N2 physisorption techniques. The increase of cobalt doping enhanced redshif in the diffuse reflectance spectra. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared samples was tested for degradation of methylene blue (MB) as a model of dye. Although the photocatalytic activity of pure TiO2 was found to be higher than that of Co/TiO2 samples under UV irradiation, the presence of 0.24% cobalt dopant in TiO2 nanoparticles resulted in a photocatalyst with the highest activity under visible light

Effect of aeration treatment on Methylene Blue (MB) removal using TiO2-Zeolite has been investigated. The TiO2-Zeolite was prepared by mixing activated zeolite and TiO2 in absolute ethanol. This composite was characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The MB removal was monitored spectrophotometrically. The effect of contact time, composite mass, and aeration treatment on MB removal was observed. Characterization results showed that there was interaction between TiO2 and SiO/AlO of zeolite. The observation of aeration treatment using oxygen exhibited significant improving on MB removal.

In this work, the catalyst silver phosphate (Ag3PO[Formula: see text] with different initial ratios of Ag[Formula: see text] and PO[Formula: see text] in aqueous solution was synthesized by a simple precipitation method from AgNO3 and NH4H2PO4 which were used as the precursor. After that, the prepared samples were characterized by different techniques such as field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS) and decomposition evolution of rhodamine B (RhB) solution. The results indicate that the initial ratios of Ag[Formula: see text]/PO[Formula: see text] in aqueous solution can modify the morphology and also it can significantly affect the photocatalytic performance. During photocatalytic process, the rich Ag[Formula: see text] ion Ag3PO4 can form the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag nanoparticles, which inhibit the reduction of Ag3PO4 resulting in higher photocatalytic activity and stability.

Magnetic Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4/ZnO-R (NZFO/ZnO-R) nanocomposites are prepared via the rapid combustion-coprecipitation process, and they are characterized by the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), the X-ray Diffraction (XRD), the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), the Energy Dispersive X-ray Detector (EDX), the Specific Surface Area (BET), the UV-vis Diffuse Reflection Spectroscopy (DRS), and the Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). The photocatalytic activity of NZFO/ZnO-R nanocomposites is assessed in ultraviolet light (365 nm) by decoloration of methylene blue (MB). The results show that the magnetic NZFO/ZnO-0.2 nanocomposites consist of particles and rods. The size of particles is 18 nm. The width and length of rods are 66 nm and 198 nm, respectively. NZFO/ZnO-0.5 nanocomposites have better photocatalytic performance than that of NZFO, ZnO and NZFO/ZnO-R (R = 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.6, or 0.7) from the results. Through careful investigation of influencing parameters (the amount of catalysts, pH and concentration of MB solution), the degradation efficiency of MB is closely connected with the transparency of solution and surface charge of catalysts. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of NZFO/ZnO-0.5 nanocomposites can be ascribed to the matching band positions between ZnO and NZFO, which results in a low recombination between the photogenerated electron-hole pairs. The possible mechanism is proposed for the improved ultraviolet photocatalytic activity of NZFO/ZnO-0.5 nanocomposites.

A heterostructural composite composed of g-C3N4 and Bi2O3 was achieved by the one-pot and thermal-induced polycondensation method using melamine and Bi(NO[Formula: see text] as precursor at 550[Formula: see text]C under air atmosphere. The crystalline phase, components and morphologies of the as-prepared composites were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Besides, the photocatalytic activity of composites was evaluated by degrading RhB aqueous solution at room temperature under visible light irradiation. Compared with bulk g-C3N4, the photocatalytic efficiency of the 0.5% Bi2O3/g-C3N4 (Bi–CN) was increased by up to four times. The introduction of Bi2O3 enhances not only the light absorption ability, but also the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs.
