Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is widely used in clinical treatment of coronary artery disease. However, the effects of PCI on preventing restenosis after revascularization and improving the quality of life were not satisfying. Huxin Formula is formulated by modifying an experienced Chinese medicine formula and has been widely used in clinical practice due to its marked effects on coronary heart disease. A multicentre double-blind randomized controlled clinical trial was designed to evaluate the effects and safety of Huxin Formula in patients undergoing PCI. Our results showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups in main outcomes. For patients with ejection fraction (EF)>50%, score of the quality of life scale was higher in treatment group compared with control group. For patients with unstable angina, score of the quality of life scale in 360 days was significantly higher in treatment group compared with control group (P<0.05). No obvious adverse reaction was found in the use of Huxin Formula. In conclusion, Huxin Formula, believed to be a safe treatment for patients after PCI, has benefits in improving the quality of life in patients with unstable angina though it failed to show superiority in primary and secondary outcomes.

Kata kunci:Intervensi koroner perkutan, kualitas hidup, WHOQOL-BREF AbstractCoronary heart disease is a disease that can threaten person’s life, and can lead to the change of the quality of life. This coronary heart disease can be solved with non-surgical called percutaneous coronary intervention. This action will be normalized the quality of perfusion in the coronary arteries, which would certainly have an impact on the quality of life of patients. The research objective was to observe the patient of quality of life after treatment on intervention percutaneous coronary. The research design was cross sectional. There were 50 respondents taken by consecutive sampling. Data were collected in outpatient room in RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung, who have came with treatment routine schedule after percutaneous coronary intervention during November 1st–14th 2013. The questionnaire use WHOQOL-BREF format with 26 questions that consisting of 4 domains of quality of life: physical domain, psychological domain, social domain, and environment domain. Majority of patients were male (74 %), with the range of age mostly 56-66 years ( 34 % ), married ( 96 % ), college education was the highest ( 66 % ), the majority had not a primary job like as housewife , retired, student, etc. ( 26 % ). Data were collected using the questionnaire WHOQOL – BREF. The result have shown that rates of quality of life was good ( 50 % ) and health condition after percutaneous coronary intervention neither satisfied nor dissatisfied ( 44 % ). Nurses have a role in helping patients achieve optimal quality of life like giving information to patient correctlyKey words: Percutaneous coronary intervention, quality of life, WHOQOL – BREF

Background: As an invasive modality, a coronary angioplasty may cause a great deal of anxiety in patients and affect their mental health and general well-being. Accordingly, we sought to assess whether showing patients the video of their elective percutaneous coronary intervention (angiogram) could affect their illness perception and anxiety level. Materials and Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, the patients undergoing angioplasty, were randomly divided into two groups of 30 patients. Angiograms were shown only to the intervention group postprocedurally. A checklist comprising demographic data and clinical presentations as well as the Beck anxiety questionnaire and the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ) was completed for each patient immediately after the intervention and one month later. The differences in the patients’ anxiety level and illness perception were analyzed. Results: In the intervention group, the mean anxiety score before and after watching the angiograms was 34.26 ± 8.1 and 24.4 ± 8.56, respectively. While in the control group, the score before and after angioplasty was 34.46 ± 9.34 and 26.6 ± 9.44, respectively. Thus, watching angiograms led to a significant decrease in the anxiety score in the intervention group, whereas there was no such difference in the control group. There was also a considerable difference in the anxiety score between the two groups. Further, there was a significant decrease in the BIPQ score of the intervention group after watching the angioplasty videos. Conclusion: Educating cardiovascular patients about diagnostic and therapeutic procedures may confer such good outcomes as alleviated anxiety, enhanced satisfaction, and ultimately, fewer anxiety-related complications.
