Partially phosphorylated polyvinyl alcohol (PPVA) films were prepared at five mole ratios of phosphoric acid (PA) using solution casting technique. The optical properties of the PPVA films were examined using UV-visible (UV) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The UV absorption spectra reveal that the absorption peaks are blue-shifted with an increase in PA concentration added to the pure PVA. The PL spectra show the presence of peaks which are characteristic of isotactic (389–398, 460–462 nm), syndiotactic (418–420 nm), and atactic (440–446 nm) configurations of the PPVA. The results also show the peak of O–P–O bonding at a wavelength range of 481–489 nm.

The effect of Pd-TiO2 nanoparticle doping on structural, optical and thermal properties of the PVA polymer has been investigated using FTIR, UV-Visible, TGA and FESEM analysis. nanosized Pd-TiO2 particles were synthesized using standard method. Pure and Pd-TiO2/PVA nanocomposite films were prepared using solution casting technique. The FTIR study confirmed that the Pd-TiO2 nanoparticles interacts with the OH group of PVA polymer and forms the complex. The presence of these complexes affects the optical and thermal properties the composite. The change in the optical properties was studied using UV-Vis absorption method. The effect of doping on the thermal properties was studied using TGA method and the modified surface morphology using FESEM.

Attapulgite Clay Filled Polyvinyl Alcohol/modified Corn Starch (PVOH/OCS/AT) Blend Films were Prepared by Solution Casting Technique. Biodegradability of the Blend Films were Determined by the Biodegradation in Microbial and Enzymatic Degradation. the Obtained Results Showed that the Addition of Attapulgite in Polyvinyl Alcohol/modified Corn Starch (PVOH/OCS) Blend Film has Changed the Biodegradability of the Film in both Microbial, Enzymatic Media. among all the Attapulgite-Filled Blends, PVOH/OCS/AT2 Blend Film Shows the Optimum Biodegradability Behavior because this Blend System Shows Highest DED and DMD Values.

Borophosphate glasses have been synthesized with a Bi2O3concentration of 15.0 to 25.0 mol%, added 2.5 mol% for each concentration, by the normal melt quenching technique at 1200 °C. The physical and optical properties of bismuth borophosphate glass systems have been studied. The glasses are characterized for their physical and optical properties. The density and molar volume of these glasses were found in the range 3.4391 to 3.9338 g/cm3and 52.2515 to 55.7557 cm3/mol, respectively. It was observed that the density and molar volume of these glasses was increased with increasing the concentration of Bi2O3. The absorption spectra of these glasses were recorded in the UV-Visible range. It has been found that, the absorption spectra were shifted to longer wavelength with higher Bi2O3concentration. In addition, the oxygen packing density of glass samples have been also investigated.

In this critical review chapter, the authors explain the development of composite films of Barium Titanate (BaTiO3) and Poly (methyl methacrylate) prepared by solution casting technique. Different weight percentage composition of BaTiO3 has been selected to find out the best optimization condition for further investigation and correlate the results. The structural properties have been carried out at room temperature using XRD. Efforts have been made to correlate the results with investigated XRD results of pure BaTiO3 and its composites as observed by other workers at room temperature. The flow of experimental work and microscopic images are explained.

Particles of calcium phosphate were precipitated by raising the temperature and the pH of simulated body fluid (SBF) named Apatite Nuclei (AN). AN and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composites thin films with different weight percentages of AN in PVDF were fabricated by solution casting technique, using doctor blade method. In order to assess the bioactivity, the thin films were soaked in simulated body fluid (SBF). It was found that the film containing 30 wt.% of AN in PVDF actively induced hydroxyapatite formation in 3 days soaking period in SBF.

Nanocomposite films from polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) dispersion and multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared by solution casting technique. Stress-strain properties showed increase in elastic modulus and yield strength. Mechanical properties characterized by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis represented increase in storage modulus below glass transition temperature. Studied dielectrical properties of PVAc/MWCNT nanocomposites revealed formation of conductive MWCNT network in PVAc matrix.

Films of methyl cellulose (MC) /chitosan blends were prepared via solution casting technique and their properties with different amount of ammonium trilate, NH4CF3SO3 were compared. Measurements of conductivity as a function of frequency at room temperature on these films were carried out using HIOKI 3532-50 LCR Hi-Tester where the frequency was set between 50 Hz to 1 MHz. Samples having 40 wt% of NH4CF3SO3 exhibit the highest room temperature conductivity of (4.99±4.18) x 10-6 Scm-1. Dielectric data were analyzed using complex permittivity and complex electrical modulus for the sample with the highest ionic conductivity.

In this work, the physical and optical properties of soda-lime-borate glasses doped with V2O5 concentration of 0.0 to 2.5 in mol% have been investigated. The glass samples were prepared by the normal melt-quench technique. The results show that the density and refractive index decreased with additional 0.5 mol% content of V2O5. Then both results increased with increasing V2O5 content from 1.0-2.5 mol%. The optical absorption spectra of glass samples were measured by UV-visible spectrophotometer in the wavelength range 300-1100 nm and color coordinate in CIEL*a*b* system. The absorption peaks locate around 605 and 960 nm for all V2O5 concentration that are associated to V4+ ions and produce the brown color.
