Purpose. This retrospective cohort study evaluated factors for peri-implant bone level changes (ΔIBL) associated with an implant type with inner-cone implant-abutment connection, rough neck surface, and platform switching (AT). Materials and Methods. All AT placed at the Department of Prosthodontics of the University of Bern between January 2004 and December 2005 were included in this study. All implants were examined by single radiographs using the parallel technique taken at surgery (T0) and obtained at least 6 months after surgery (T1). Possible influencing factors were analysed first using t-test (normal distribution) or the nonparametric Wilcoxon test (not normal distribution), and then a mixed model q variance analysis was performed. Results. 43 patients were treated with 109 implants. Five implants in 2 patients failed (survival rate: 95.4%). Mean ΔIBL in group 1 (T1: 6–12 months after surgery) was -0.65±0.82 mm and -0.69±0.82 mm in group 2 (T1: >12 months after surgery) (P=0.801). Greater implant insertion depth in diameter 3.5 mm implants might be associated with increased ΔIBL (P<0.05). In the anterior region, the bone alteration was more pronounced (P<0.01). Conclusions. ΔIBL values indicated that the implant system used in this study fulfilled implant success criteria.

Abstract Background and Aims Lupus nephritis (LN) develops in about 50% of patients affected by Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and it is associated with higher morbidity and mortality risk. Approximately 10 % of LN patients is expected to reach end stage renal disease (ESRD). Proteinuria at 1 year has been demonstrated as the best predictor factor of long-term renal outcome. We compared the effects of two different induction therapies (Euro Lupus protocol [EL] vs Mycophenolate [MMF]) in terms of eGFR, proteinuria, serum albumin and complement activation in LN patients related to our centre. Method We retrospectively reviewed the records of 34 adult patients with LN from 2011 to 2019. Patients were divided in two groups according to therapeutic strategy chosen: EL (n=21 patients, group 1) and MMF (n=13, group 2). Data with normal distribution are expressed as average ± standard deviation, while data with non normal distribution are referred to as median and interquartile range [IQR]. Basal values of eGFR, proteinuria, albumin and complement were compared to 1 year values with Student t-test for normal variables or with Wilcoxon test for non normal variables. Results The mean age of the patients was 41.27±17.43 years, there was a predominance of female (85,3%) LN was diagnosed at 32±16 years old. According to LN classification, 88.2% of them was affected by III, IV, V and mixed LN class Basal values of eGFR (estimated with CKD-EPI method) were similar between groups 1 and 2 (86.12±52.86 vs 73.75±30.35, P=0.4890) as well as proteinuria (2.00 [0.48-4.57] vs 0.71 [0.28-1.39] g/24h, P=0.3284). After one year of follow up, eGFR did not show significant differences between two groups, while proteinuria was significantly lower in group 1 (2.)). 00 [0.48-4.57] vs 0.44 [0.19-0.91] g/24h, P=0.0034) than in group 2 (0.71 [0.28-1.39] vs 0.15 [0.08-0.77] g/24h, P=0.4687) (fig.1). Moreover, we recorded in group 1 higher values of albumin after one year of follow up (3.20 [2.52-3.94] vs 4.33 [3.99-4.57] g/dl, P=0.0195) (fig.2) and C3 consumption (35.00 [1.00-81.25] vs 89.00 [2.00-112.50] mg/dl, P=0.0067) (fig.3), while group 2 did not show any statistically significant differences. Conclusion In patients affected by LN, EL protocol demonstrated to be more effective than MMF in reducing one year after proteinuria, thus improving albumin and C3 serum titer.

The aim of the research project solved at the University of Finance and administration is to construct a new bankruptcy model. The intention is to use data of the firms that have to cease their activities due to bankruptcy. The most common method for bankruptcy model construction is multivariate discriminant analyses (MDA). It allows to derive the indicators most sensitive to the future companies’ failure as a parts of the bankruptcy model. One of the assumptions for using the MDA method and reassuring the reliable results is the normal distribution and independence of the input data. The results of verification of this assumption as the third stage of the project are presented in this article. We have revealed that this assumption is met only in a few selected indicators. Better results were achieved in the indicators in the set of prosperous companies and one year prior the failure. The selected indicators intended for the bankruptcy model construction thus cannot be considered as suitable for using the MDA method.

Quality of life and satisfaction with life as tightly interconnected concepts have become of much importance in the urbanism era. No doubt, it is one of the most important goals of every human society to enhance a citizen’s quality of life and to increase their satisfaction with life. However, there are many signs which demonstrate the low level of life satisfaction of Iranian citizens especially among the youth. Thus, considering the temporal concept of life satisfaction, this research aims to make a futures study in this field. Therefore, using a mixed model and employing research methods from futures studies, life satisfaction among the students of the University of Tehran were measured and their views on this subject investigated. Both quantitative and qualitative data were analysed together in order to test the hypotheses and to address the research questions on the youth discontentment with quality of life. Findings showed that the level of life satisfaction among students is relatively low and their image of the future is not positive and not optimistic. These views were elicited and discussed in the social, economic, political, environmental and technological perspectives. Keywords:  futures studies, quality of life, satisfaction with life, youth

Abstract Background A cytokine storm is life threatening for critically ill patients and is mainly caused by sepsis or severe trauma. In combination with supportive therapy, the cytokine adsorber Cytosorb® (CS) is increasingly used for the treatment of cytokine storm. However, it is questionable whether its use is actually beneficial in these patients. Methods Patients with an interleukin-6 (IL-6) > 10,000 pg/ml were retrospectively included between October 2014 and May 2020 and were divided into two groups (group 1: CS therapy; group 2: no CS therapy). Inclusion criteria were a regularly measured IL-6 and, for patients allocated to group 1, CS therapy for at least 90 min. A propensity score (PS) matching analysis with significant baseline differences as predictors (Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS) II, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, renal replacement therapy, IL-6, lactate and norepinephrine demand) was performed to compare both groups (adjustment tolerance: < 0.05; standardization tolerance: < 10%). U-test and Fisher’s-test were used for independent variables and the Wilcoxon test was used for dependent variables. Results In total, 143 patients were included in the initial evaluation (group 1: 38; group 2: 105). Nineteen comparable pairings could be formed (mean initial IL-6: 58,385 vs. 59,812 pg/ml; mean SAPS II: 77 vs. 75). There was a significant reduction in IL-6 in patients with (p < 0.001) and without CS treatment (p = 0.005). However, there was no significant difference (p = 0.708) in the median relative reduction in both groups (89% vs. 80%). Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the relative change in C-reactive protein, lactate, or norepinephrine demand in either group and the in-hospital mortality was similar between groups (73.7%). Conclusion Our study showed no difference in IL-6 reduction, hemodynamic stabilization, or mortality in patients with Cytosorb® treatment compared to a matched patient population.

Abstract. In 1970, the Institute of Geography of the University of Bern initiated the phenological observation network BernClim. Seasonality information from plants, fog and snow was originally available for applications in urban and regional planning and agricultural and touristic suitability and is now a valuable data set for climate change impact studies. Covering the growing season, volunteer observers record the dates of key development stages of hazel (Corylus avellana), dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), apple tree (Pyrus malus) and beech (Fagus sylvatica). All observations consist of detailed site information, including location, altitude, exposition (aspect) and inclination, that makes BernClim unique in its richness in detail on decadal timescales. Quality control (QC) by experts and statistical analyses of the data have been performed to flag impossible dates, dates outside the biologically plausible range, repeated dates in the same year, stretches of consecutive identical dates and statistically inconsistent dates (outliers in time or in space). Here, we report BernClim data of 7414 plant phenological observations from 1970 to 2018 from 1304 sites at 110 stations, the QC procedure and selected applications (Rutishauser et al., 2019: https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.900102). The QC points to very good internal consistency (only 0.2 % were flagged as internally inconsistent) and likely high quality of the data. BernClim data indicate a trend towards an extended growing season. They also track the regime shift in the late 1980s well to pronounced earlier dates like numerous other phenological records across the Northern Hemisphere.

AbstractIntroduction : A long with the development of physical agents modalities, there are many recent modalities that has many beneficial for physical therapy practice, generally physical agents modalities are suit for musculoskeletal cases, one of beneficial effect for musculoskeletal case is maintaining of muscle’s physiology, electrical stimulations are familiar modalities we find in physiotherapy practice, this modality is use to inhibit pain signal and produce muscle contraction. Recently a new physical agent modality such as magnetic stimulation also has smiliar effect such as electrical stimulations, however there are less evidence to compare magnetic and electrical stimulation for musculoskeletal problems. Objective : Purpose of this study to compare magnetic and electrical stimulation effect for reducing pain and improve functional activity in low back pain patients. Methods : 60 low back pain patients recruited as subjects, devided into two groups, Group 1 given magnetic stimulation and Group 2 given electrical stimulation, after four mounth intervention two days in every weeks, pain index and functional activity measured with Oswestry instrument. Result : After 4 mounth intervention we find reducing pain index and improvement of functional activity in two groups, Group 1 the Oswestry score is 0.2 ± 0.08, while Group 2 the Oswestry score is 0.3 ± 0.05, based on the result we analyzed with Wilcoxon test, we find significant different between two groups, the significant value is 0.001 (p<0.05). Conclussion : magnetic stimulation is more effective to reduce pain index and improve functional activity by using Oswestry instrument than electrical stimulation.
