An incremental selection hybrid decode-amplify forward (ISHDAF) scheme for the two-hop single relay systems and a relay selection strategy based on the hybrid decode-amplify-and-forward (HDAF) scheme for the multirelay systems are proposed along with an optimized power allocation for the Internet of Thing (IoT). Given total power as the constraint and outage probability as an objective function, the proposed scheme possesses good power efficiency better than the equal power allocation. By the ISHDAF scheme and HDAF relay selection strategy, an optimized power allocation for both the source and relay nodes is obtained, as well as an effective reduction of outage probability. In addition, the optimal relay location for maximizing the gain of the proposed algorithm is also investigated and designed. Simulation results show that, in both single relay and multirelay selection systems, some outage probability gains by the proposed scheme can be obtained. In the comparison of the optimized power allocation scheme with the equal power allocation one, nearly 0.1695 gains are obtained in the ISHDAF single relay network at a total power of 2 dB, and about 0.083 gains are obtained in the HDAF relay selection system with 2 relays at a total power of 2 dB.

The outage probability performance is analyzed for the optimization of incremental selection decode-amplify-forward (ISDF) multi-node MIMO cooperative communication systems. Firstly, the system model for the proposed multi-node MIMO cooperative protocol. Then, the incremental selection decode-amplify-forward and optimal relay selection strategy (routing) based on the opportunistic relaying scheme is proposed. The mutual information and outage probability between source and destination nodes for the proposed scheme are formulated with the relays have the capability of maximum ratio combining (MRC) receiving and beam-forming transmitting capabilities. Finally, adaptive strategy is proposed for adaptive optimal power allocation (APA). Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed APA outperforms traditional equal power allocation (EPA) in outage performance.

In this paper, an amplify-and-forward (AF) multi-relay network is considered. In order to minimize the system outage probability, a new power allocation and multi-relay selection algorithm is proposed under total power constraint and each node power constraint. In the proposed algorithm, the ideal of ordering is adopted, which leads to the remarkable decrease of the computation complexity together with simple power reallocation. Simulation results show that the proposed multi-relay selection algorithm performs close to the optimal scheme with optimal power allocation and exhaustive search (OPA-ES) but with much lower complexity.

To improve the reliability and efficiency in cooperative communications, a power optimized single relay selection scheme is proposed by increasing the diversity effort with an improved link-adaptive-regenerative (ILAR) protocol. The protocol determines the forwarding power of a relay node by comparing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at both sides of the node; thus it improves the power efficiency. Moreover, it also proposes a single relay selection strategy to maximize the instantaneous SNR product, which ensures the approximate best channel link quality for good relay forwarding. And the system adjusts the forwarding power in real time and also selects the best relay node participated in the cooperative forwarding. In addition, the cooperation in the protocol is analyzed and the approximate expression of the bit-error-rate (BER) and the outage probability at high SNRs are also derived. Simulation results indicate that the BER and outage probability of the relay selection scheme by the ILAR protocol outperform other contrast schemes of current existing protocols. At BER of 10−2, the proposed scheme with ILAR protocol outperforms those of the decoded-and-forward (DF), the selected DF (SDF), and the amplify-and-forward (AF) protocols by 3.5, 3.5 and 7 dB, respectively. Moreover, the outage probability of the relay system decreases with the growth of the relay number. Therefore, the proposed relay selection scheme with ILAR strategies can be properly used in cooperative communications for good reliability and high power efficiency.

Multiple transmit and receive antenna systems have improved the reliability as well as data rate in a wireless communication system. Such advanced wireless architectures have empowered smart devices to fulfill the demand of multimedia content. Image is a major user generated content in wide range of applications, hence reliable transmission of image is an important research problem. New transmission and coding schemes that explore advantages of multiple antenna systems matched with source statistics have been developed. Based on a similar idea, an equal power allocation scheme for transmission of compressed images over multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems employing partial repetition coding is proposed. The JPEG compression algorithm divides image into different quality layers. The proposed system repeats transmission of high quality data from more than one antenna as compared to the lower quality data which is transmitted using one antenna at most, in a particular time slot. A heuristic spatial multiplexing scheme is also proposed to optimally divide the bit stream chunks for transmission. Extensive simulations have shown that equal power allocation and repetition coding scheme is better as compared to reference schemes.

The implementation of cooperative diversity with relays has advantages over point-to-point multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, in particular, overcoming correlated paths due to small inter-element spacing. A simple transmitter with one antenna may exploit cooperative diversity or space time coding gain through distributed relays. In this paper, similar distributed transmission is considered with the golden code, and the authors propose a new strategy for relay selection, called the maximum-mean selection policy, for distributed transmission with the full maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding and sphere decoding (SD) based on a wireless relay network. This strategy performs a channel strength tradeoff at every relay node to select the best two relays for transmission. It improves on the established one-sided selection strategy of maximum-minimum policy. Simulation results comparing the bit error rate (BER) based on different detectors and a scheme without relay selection, with the maximum-minimum and maximum-mean selection schemes confirm the performance advantage of relay selection. The proposed strategy yields the best performance of the three methods.

Nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is one of the promising access techniques in 5G network. The application of relay in NOMA system is a hotspot in recent research. NOMA-based cooperative relay network can achieve a higher spectral efficiency and a lower outage probability. In this paper, we analyse the performance of the two-hop DF relay NOMA network scenario, where the number of cell edge users is more than the cell center user, and obtained the closed-form expression of the user's ergodic rates and outage probabilities under the high signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio. Then, we establish an optimization model to maximize the system rates, and a joint optimal time and power allocation algorithm based on the exhaustive search and the binary algorithm is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can outperform exiting scheme in terms of achieving a higher ergodic sum rate, a lower outage probability under the premise of fairness.

A joint resource allocation algorithm to minimize the system outage probability is proposed for a decode-and-forward (DF) two-way relay network with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) under a total power constraint. In this network, the two sources nodes exchange information with the help of a passive relay, which is assumed to help the two source nodes’ communication without consuming its own energy by exploiting an energy-harvesting protocol, the power splitting (PS) protocol. An optimization framework to jointly optimize power allocation (PA) at the source nodes and PS at the relay is developed. Since the formulated joint optimization problem is non-convex, the solution is developed in two steps. First, the conditionally optimal PS ratio at the relay node for a given PA ratio is explored; then, the closed-form of the optimal PA in the sense of minimizing the system outage probability with instantaneous channel state information (CSI) is derived. Analysis shows that the optimal design depends on the channel condition and the rate threshold. Simulation results are obtained to validate the analytical results. Comparison with three existing schemes shows that the proposed optimized scheme has the minimum system outage probability.
