In this paper, a numerical study is presented for the 3D mathematical model of bioconvective boundary layer flow having nanoparticles and motile microorganisms on a curved sheet under isothermal conditions. Using an appropriate choice of similarity transformations, the problem reduces to coupled ordinary nonlinear equations, and this system is then treated with bvp4c (a MATLAB-based solver) to get the desired solution with good accuracy. The repercussion of distinct important dimensionless numbers such as thermophoresis, buoyancy ratio, Lewis number, and Brownian number on the velocity, temperature, and volume fraction of nanoparticles is presented graphically and is discussed in context with their importance on flow dynamics. Moreover, the physical impact of various parameters on motile microorganism density, the local Sherwood number, the local Nusselt number, and the local skin friction coefficients is analyzed and presented in tables. Qualitative analysis also reveals that the Brownian motion parameter, Peclet number, and Schmidt number have an inverse impact on the density microorganisms.

In this article, the steady two-dimensional stagnation point flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting bio-nanofluid over a stretching/shrinking wedge in the presence of passively control boundary condition, Stefan blowing and multiple slips is numerically investigated. Magnetic induction is also taken into account. The governing conservation equations are rendered into a system of ordinary differential equations via appropriate similarity transformations. The reduced system is solved using a fast, convergent Chebyshev collocation method. The influence of selected parameters on the dimensionless velocity, induced magnetic field, temperature, nanoparticle volume fraction and density of motile microorganisms as well as on the local skin friction, local Nusselt number, local Sherwood number and density of motile microorganism numbers is discussed and presented graphically. Validation with previously published results is performed and an excellent agreement is found. The study is relevant to electromagnetic manufacturing processes involving bio-nanofluids.

An analysis has been carried out to obtain the series solution of boundary layer flow of a micropolar fluid towards a shrinking sheet. The governing equations of micropolar fluid are simplified using suitable similarity transformations and then solved by homotopy analysis method (HAM). The convergence of the HAM solutions has been obtained by using homotopy-pade approximation. The effects of various parameters such as porosity parameter R, the ratio λ and the microinertia K on the velocity and microinertia profiles as well as local skin friction coefficient are presented graphically and in tabulated form.

The natural convective boundary layer flow of a nanofluid over an isothermal horizontal plate is studied analytically. The model used for the nanofluid accounts for the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The analysis shows that the velocity, temperature, and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles in the respective boundary layers depend not only on the Prandtl number (Pr) and Lewis number (Le) but also on three additional dimensionless parameters: the Brownian motion parameter Nb, the buoyancy ratio parameter Nr and the thermophoresis parameter Nt. The velocity, temperature, and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles for the nanofluid are found to have a weak dependence on the values of Nb, Nr, and Nt. The effect of the above-mentioned parameters on the local skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number has been studied extensively. It has been observed that as Nr increases, the local skin-friction coefficient decreases whereas local Nusselt number remains almost constant. As Nb or Nt increases, the local skin-friction coefficient increases whereas the local Nusselt number decreases.

This work examines the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) three-dimensional (3D) flow comprising Cu and Al2O3 water-based nanofluids. The effects of heat and mass transfer with the effects of nanoparticles are carried out in the existence of thermal radiation and convective heat and mass transfer boundary conditions. By applying the proper similarity transformations the partial differential equations describing velocity, temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction (NVF) are transformed to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (NODE). An optimal homotopy analysis technique is applied to evaluate the analytical solutions. The influences of pertinent parameters on the velocity, temperature and NVF are displayed in graphical and tabular forms. Calculations of Nusselt number, skin friction coefficients and the local Sherwood number are evaluated via tables. An excellent comparison has also been made with the previously-published literature.

AbstractIn the study, the steady, laminar, incompressible, convective flow of a viscous fluid over a moving plate is investigated theoretically by adopting different types of nanoparticles. Radiation, internal heat generation and viscous dissipation effects are considered in the energy modeled equation. The governing flow equations for the momentum and temperature are reduced to dimensionless form via similarity transformations. The solutions to the resultant equations alongside with the transformed boundary conditions are numerically obtained using MATLAB package bvp4c. Validation with earlier studies are done for the non-internal heat generation case for two distinct nanoparticles of type Cu-water and Al-water. Extensive visualization of flow rate and heat distributions for various emerging parameters are examined. Temperature is consistently enhanced with a rising Eckert number of both types of nanofluids, whereas it is strongly reduced with rising values of radiation term. Heat transfer coefficient is consistently increased with a nanoparticle volume fraction of high convective heat in the medium.

AbstractIn this study, a mathematical model is developed to scrutinize the transient magnetic flow of Cross nanoliquid past a stretching sheet with thermal radiation effects. Binary chemical reactions and heat source/sink effects along with convective boundary condition are also taken into the consideration. Appropriate similarity transformations are utilized to transform partial differential equations (PDE’s) into ordinary ones and then numerically tackled by shooting method. The impacts of different emerging parameters on the thermal, concentration, velocity, and micro-rotation profiles are incorporated and discussed in detail by means of graphs. Results reveal that, the escalation in magnetic parameter and Rayleigh number slowdowns the velocity and momentum of the fluid. The increase in Biot number, radiation and heat sink/source parameters upsurges the thermal boundary but, converse trend is seen for escalating Prandtl number. The density number of motile microorganisms acts as a growing function of bioconvection Lewis number and declining function of bioconvection Peclet number.

In this work we study numerically the three-dimensional turbulent natural convection in a partially heated cubic cavity filled with water containing metallic nanoparticles, metallic oxides and others based on carbon. The objective is to study and compare the effect of the addition of nanoparticles studied in water and also the effect of the position of the heated partition on the heat exchange by turbulent natural convection in this type of geometry, which can significantly improve the design of heat exchange systems for better space optimization. For this we have treated numerically for different volume fractions the turbulent natural convection in the two cases where the cavity is heated respectively by a vertical and horizontal strip in the middle of one of the vertical walls. To take into account the effects of turbulence, we used the standard turbulence model ? - ?. The governing equations are discretized by the finite volume method using the power law scheme which offers a good stability characteristic in this type of flow. The results are presented in the form of isothermal lines and current lines. The variation of the mean Nusselt number is calculated for the two positions of the heated partition as a function of the volume fraction of the nanoparticles studied in water for different Rayleigh numbers. The results show that carbon-based nanoparticles intensify heat exchange by convection better and that the position of the heated partition significantly influences heat exchange by natural convection. In fact, an improvement in the average Nusselt number of more than 20% is observed for the case where the heated partition is horizontal.

A boundary-layer analysis is presented for the natural convec tion boundary layer flow about a sphere embedded in a porous medium filled with a nanofluid using Brinkman-ForchheimerDarcy extended model. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the ef fects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The governing partial differential equa tions are transformed into a set of nonsimilar equations and solved numerically by an efficient implicit, iterative, finite-difference method. Comparisons with previously published work are performed and excellent agreement is obtained. A parametric study of the physical parameters is conducted and a representative set of numerical results for the velocity, temperature, and nanoparticles volume fraction profiles as well as the local skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers is illustrated graphically to show interesting features of the solutions.

The present work is dedicated to the three-dimensional numerical study of mixed convection heat transfer, taking place within a ventilated cavity (of shape L) crossed by Cu-water nanofluid. The enclosure is subjected to the action of a magnetic field. The ventilation is assured by two openings of the same size. The cold flow enters by an opening practiced at the top of the left wall, and exits by another opening practiced at the bottom of the right vertical wall. All the cavity walls are maintained at the same temperature, superior to that of the entering flow, except the side walls which are considered as adiabatic. The control parameters are: the Reynolds number and the Hartmann number as well as the nanoparticles volume fraction.

This research paper addresses the two-dimensional steady laminar incompressible free convective flow of a nanofluid past a horizontal plate saturated in the porous medium, where both the thermal and the mass convective boundary conditions are taken into consideration. Mathematical modeling via similarity transformations (which was developed using one-parameter continuous group of transformation) was applied to obtain a reduced mathematical model, which describes the problem. The solutions of the reduced system were obtained by a numerical method called the fourth- and fifth-order Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method with the aid of computational software called Maple version 13. The resulting distributions of dimensionless temperature, velocity, and nanoparticle volume fraction are studied graphically to demonstrate the effect of pertinent parameters. Moreover, some of the new findings are shown in graphs. An excellent agreement was found after comparing the results with the previous literature, which assures the validity of the analysis. It is found that the flow is accelerated with an increase in thermal and mass convective parameters. Temperature and concentration are enhanced for rising values of (thermal and concentration) conjugate parameters.
