Important design parameters for a two-port three-terminal band-pass filter configuration of the integrated thin-film exponential distributed parameter R–C–KR microstructure are presented. The circuit exhibits load independent characteristics. The changes in the value of design parameters under varying loading conditions are given. Various plots illustrating the inter-relationship of the different parameters with each other that can serve as guidelines for a system designer to obtain a pre-assigned pattern of the performance characteristics of the microstructure are included.

The X-band behaviour of a seven-section parallel-coupled microstrip band pass filter and microstripline due to thin-film Al2O3overlay of different thickness is reported in this paper. This Al2O3film can give a homogeneous overlay structure. There is a substantial increase in the bandwidth due to the overlay, the pass band extending towards higher frequency side. In most of the cases, an increase in the pass band transmittance of a microstripline also increases due to a thin-film Al2O3overlay, especially for frequencies less than 9.0 GHz. At higher frequencies, random variations are observed. It is felt that thin-film overlays can be used to modify the microstripline circuit properties, thereby avoiding costly and time consuming elaborate design procedures.

A model of the estimation of the ferroelectric-based phase-shifter figure of merit concerning the material properties and phase-shifter design parameters is presented. The influence of ferroelectric material tunability and losses on phase-shifter characteristics are analyzed. Two approaches to phase-shifter design (transmission line and band-pass filter) are considered. The review of the published results on the ferroelectric phase-shifter design was performed to approve the method proposed. Recommendations to optimize the phase-shifter development process are suggested on the basis of the elaborated model and analysis performed.

First time study for development of relationship between design and fabrication of thin film narrow-pass filters simulated using the Essential Macleod optical coating design program and verified through experimental data. In thin film narrow band-pass filter's design, can design better filter by changing some parameters, but the theoretical designs are often difficult to achieve. The sensitivity of thin film narrow band-pass filters are mainly influenced by the refractive index of cavity layers, number of mirror layers, interference order and number of cavities. Based on analysis of all these aspects, laws of influence are obtained. A narrow band-pass filter with super wide rejection band was designed and fabricated to verify the simulation results, showing a good agreement between the experimental and theoretical observations.
