<span>The idea of smart grid (SG) technology has revolutionized the traditional power system and has made it more efficient, robust and reliable in a number of ways. SG networks are recently upgraded networks of associated objects of information and communication technology (ICT) and core technology. Many active research areas have been developed to achieve the goals and planned requirements of the transfer of power systems from the traditional grid to the SG. Despite the significant characteristics of SG, future research needs to resolve numerous problems relating to core and ICT technology. This analysis paper identifies the challenges facing SG growth, potential research directions and also proposes possible solutions to some of these challenges, thus achieving the SG goals and planned requirements.</span>

Management from Islamic Perspectives (MIP) is an emerging field that has begun to attract scholarly attention. However, the research undertaken so far has been rather fragmented and lack a clear agenda. This paper presents a literature review of the field and the areas of current focus. Although the field has a huge growth potential, I argue that it faces several challenges and problems as it develops further. I outline these potential pitfalls, suggest how to develop MIP as a formal discipline, and explain how to integrate it within real-life business practices. The article closes with a call for research to be conducted in a more organized fashion through an international consortium of researchers as well as recommendations for future research directions.

Background: Minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) is one of the most promising machining techniques that can yield a reduction in consumption of cutting fluid more than 90 % while ensuring the surface quality and tool life. The significance of the MQL in machining makes it imperative to consolidate and analyse the current direction and status of research in MQL. Objective: This study aims to assess global research publication trends and hot topics in the field of MQL among machining process. The bibliometric and descriptive analysis are the tools that the investigation aims to use for the data analysis of related literature collected from Scopus databases. Methods: Various performance parameters are extracted, such as document types and languages of publication, annual scientific production, total documents, total citations, and citations per article. The top 20 of the most relevant and productive sources, authors, affiliations, countries, word cloud, and word dynamics are assessed. The graphical visualisation of the bibliometric data is presented in terms of bibliographic coupling, citation, and co-citation network. Results: The investigation reveals that the International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture (2611 citations, 31 hindex) is the most productive journal that publishes on MQL. The most productive institution is the University of Michigan (32 publications), the most cited country is Germany (1879 citations), and the most productive country in MQL is China (124 publications). The study shows that ‘Cryogenic Machining’, ‘Sustainable Machining’, ‘Sustainability’, ‘Nanofluid’ and ‘Titanium alloy’ are the most recent keywords and indications of the hot topics and future research directions in the MQL field. Conclusion: The analysis finds that MQL is progressing in publications and the emerging with issues that are strongly associated with the research. This study is expected to help the researchers to find the most current research areas through the author’s keywords and future research directions in MQL and thereby expand their research interests.

The importance of looking into microgrid security is getting more crucial due to the cyber vulnerabilities introduced by digitalization and the increasing dependency on information and communication technology (ICT) systems. Especially with a current academic unanimity on the incremental significance of the microgrid’s role in building the future smart grid, this article addresses the existing approaches attending to cyber-physical security in power systems from a microgrid-oriented perspective. First, we start with a brief descriptive review of the most commonly used terms in the latest relevant literature, followed by a comprehensive presentation of the recent efforts explored in a manner that helps the reader to choose the appropriate future research direction among several fields.

Smart grids are a new trend in electric power distribution, which has been guiding the digitization of electric ecosystems. These smart networks are continually being introduced in order to improve the dependability (reliability, availability) and efficiency of power grid systems. However, smart grids are often complex, composed of heterogeneous components (intelligent automation systems, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) control systems, power systems, smart metering systems, and others). Additionally, they are organized under a hierarchical topology infrastructure demanded by priority-based services, resulting in a costly modeling and evaluation of their dependability requirements. This work explores smart grid modeling as a graph in order to propose a methodology for dependability evaluation. The methodology is based on Fault Tree formalism, where the top event is generated automatically and encompasses the hierarchical infrastructure, redundant features, load priorities, and failure and repair distribution rates of all components of a smart grid. The methodology is suitable to be applied in early design stages, making possible to evaluate instantaneous and average measurements of reliability and availability, as well as to identify eventual critical regions and components of smart grid. The study of a specific use-case of low-voltage distribution network is used for validation purposes.

This study used a bibliometric approach to quantitatively evaluate the status of wetland research in China using detailed information from 31794 articles retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) database and published from 1999 to 2019. We outline the progress of wetland research in China in terms of the number of articles published, active research institutions, funding provided, research directions, dynamic changes in the focus of the research and development trends. By analysing high-frequency keywords, we conclude that there are four focus areas of wetlands research in China: (1) climate change; (2) wetland pollution; (3) wetland plants and microorganisms; and (4) the conservation and management of wetlands. By combining focus area and high-citation analysis, we show that carbon storage and organic carbon mineralisation, biological remediation, constructed wetlands for the treatment of waste water and the sustainable use of ecological services are currently the most notable research areas, with a marked increase since 2009. These topics are in line with the focus of research globally over the past 6 years and are likely to become a primary research focus in future. The results of this study provide a useful theoretical basis and directions for further research in the sustainable development of wetland resources in China.

Abstract The modelling of supply chain risk management (SCRM) has attracted increasing attention from researchers and professionals. However, a systematic network analysis of the literature to understand the development of research over time is lacking. Therefore, this study reviews SCRM modelling and its evolution as a scientific field. We collected 566 papers published in the Scopus database and shortlisted 120 for review. We have analysed the field's performance, mapped the most influential studies, as well as the generative and evolutionary research areas, and derived future research directions. Using bibliometric methods and tools for citation network analysis to understand the field's dynamic development, we find that five generative research areas provide the fundamental knowledge for four evolutionary research areas. The interpretation of gaps and trends in these areas provides an SCRM modelling timeline with 14 future research directions, which should consider adopting a holistic SCRM approach and developing prescriptive and normative risk models. The holistic approach enables more research on key factors—like process integration, design, information risk, visibility and risk coordination—that directly impact industry, decision-makers and sustainability needs. Risk models with evolved prescriptive and normative typology should respect both business model strategies and actual supply chain performance.

Abstract Economists rarely model the economy as explicitly bound by earth’s ecological systems. Modeling the dynamic interactions of both human and non-human systems is admittedly a challenging task, as it requires expertise from multiple disciplines. Within the last 10 years, a wide variety of research papers have been published that include some biophysical aspects in a model of the economy. These papers all have one thing in common: the model of the economy includes physical and/or energetic exchanges, as well as monetary exchange. This theme is what defines the emerging sub-discipline of biophysical economics, BPE. BPE models of the economy originate from a variety of disciplines, and thus BPE research articles are published across a wide spectrum of academic journals. As inter-disciplinary researchers ourselves, we want to understand what BPE modeling approaches have been used so far. In this paper, we examine and classify over one hundred published articles that use biophysical models of the economy. Although BPE modeling approaches are quite varied, grouping the research by common characteristics reveals several active research areas. We highlight recent papers that are helpful examples of the most popular BPE modeling strategies. Gaps also exist. Several modeling approaches have not been used in published works yet. We identify which of those gaps could be promising avenues for future research. We conclude by suggesting which BPE modeling approach might be particularly appropriate for a variety of research questions.
