Global warming is referred to the rise in average surface temperatures on earth primarily due to the Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Monitoring the emissions, either direct or indirect from the industrial processes, is important to control or to minimize their impact on the environment. Most of the existing environmental monitoring system is being designed and developed for normal environment monitoring. Hence, the aim of this project is to develop industrial CO2 emission monitoring system which implements industrial Open Platform Communications (OPC) protocol in an embedded microcontroller. The software algorithm based on OPC data format has been designed and programmed into the Arduino microcontroller to interface the sensor data to any existing industrial OPC compliant Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system<strong>. </strong>The system has been successfully tested in a lab with the suitable environment for real-time CO2 emissions measurement. The real-time measurement data has been shown in an industrial SCADA application which indicates successful implementation of the OPC communications protocol.

Using multi-sensor data fusion technology, ARM technology, ZigBee technology, GPRS, and other technologies, an intelligent environmental monitoring system is studied and developed. The SCM STC12C5A60S2 is used to collect the main environmental parameters in real time intelligently. The collected data is transmitted to the central controller LPC2138 through the ZigBee module ATZGB-780S5, and then the collected data is transmitted to the management computer through the GPRS communication module SIM300; thus, the real-time processing and intelligent monitoring of the environmental parameters are realized. The structure of the system is optimized; the suitable fusion model of environmental monitoring parameters is established; the hardware and the software of the intelligent system are completed. Each sensor is set up synchronously at the end of environmental parameter acquisition. The method of different value detection is used to filter out different values. The authors obtain the reliability of the sensor through the application of the analytic hierarchy process. In the analysis and processing of parameters, they proposed a new data fusion algorithm by using the reliability, probability association algorithm, and evidence synthesis algorithm. Through this algorithm, the accuracy of environmental monitoring data and the accuracy of judging monitoring data are greatly improved.

A greenhouse provides a stable and suitable environment for the growth of plants. Temperature and humidity are closely related to plant growth. These factors directly affect the water content of plants and the quality of fruits. To solve the problems in the current monitoring system of greenhouse cultivation, such as complicated wiring, large node power consumption, and so on, this study proposes a wireless sensor network greenhouse-monitoring system based on third-generation network communication for the real-time monitoring of the temperature, humidity, light, and CO2 concentration in a greenhouse. GS1011M is regarded as the core in developing wireless terminal nodes. PC software is used to build a real-time observation platform. Sensor data are received in real time through a wireless communication network to complete the monitoring of the target area. A simulation research is also conducted. Results show that the power dissipation of the greenhouse environmental monitoring system is low, its data accuracy is high, and its operation is stable.

In order to realize the real-time environmental monitoring for shipboard TT&C antenna-centrosome, this paper designs a monitoring system based on Modbus by analyzing current conditions, which contains sensor data acquisition terminal and video switcher. The designed system has many advantages, such as less project-related work, higher cost performance, convenient installation, easy debugging and etc. Actual application shows that temperature & humidity data and video information gathered meet the requirement need completely. Techniques in this paper can be referenced in other related fields.

Online prediction of dynamical system behavior based on a combination of simulation data and sensor measurement data has numerous applications. Examples include predicting safe flight configurations, forecasting storms and wildfire spread, estimating railway track and pipeline health conditions. In such applications, high-fidelity simulations may be used to accurately predict a system’s dynamical behavior offline (“non-real time”). However, due to the computational expense, these simulations have limited usage for online (“real-time”) prediction of a system’s behavior. To remedy this, one possible approach is to allocate a significant portion of the computational effort to obtain data through offline simulations. The obtained offline data can then be combined with online sensor measurements for online estimation of the system’s behavior with comparable accuracy as the off-line, high-fidelity simulation. The main contribution of this paper is in the construction of a fast data-driven spatiotemporal prediction framework that can be used to estimate general parametric dynamical system behavior. This is achieved through three steps. First, high-order singular value decomposition is applied to map high-dimensional offline simulation datasets into a subspace. Second, Gaussian processes are constructed to approximate model parameters in the subspace. Finally, reduced-order particle filtering is used to assimilate sparsely located sensor data to further improve the prediction. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through a case study. In this case study, aeroelastic response data obtained for an aircraft through simulations is integrated with measurement data obtained from a few sparsely located sensors. Through this case study, the authors show that along with dynamic enhancement of the state estimates, one can also realize a reduction in uncertainty of the estimates.

In order to solve the shortcomings of the landslide monitoring technology method, a set of landslides monitoring and early warning system is designed. It can achieve real-time sensor data acquisition, remote transmission and query display. In addition, aiming at the harsh environment of landslide monitoring and the performance requirements of the monitoring system, an improved minimum hop routing protocol is proposed. It can reduce network energy consumption, enhance network robustness, and improve node layout and networking flexibility. In order to realize the remote transmission of data, GPRS wireless communication is used to transmit monitoring data. Combined with remote monitoring center, real-time data display, query, preservation and landslide warning and prediction are realized. The results show that the sensor data acquisition system is accurate, the system is stable, and the node network is flexible. Therefore, the monitoring system has a good use value.

An online environmental monitoring system based on ZigBee wireless sensor network is designed to overcome the drawbacks of the traditional indoor environment monitoring system, such as the difficulty of wiring and the poor flexibility. The ZigBee communication technology, web server technology and GSM communication technology are synthesized, and the indoor temperature and humidity, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde concentration and other environmental information are collected and monitored in real time by various supporting sensors. Users can complete local and remote real-time monitoring of indoor environment by opening Web pages. When a fire or gas leak occurs, users will receive alert messages in time. Experiment show that the system has the advantages of stable operation, simple use and good flexibility, and has high practical value and wide application prospects.

Floods are responsible for a high number of human and material losses every year. Monitoring of river levels is usually performed with radar and pre-configured sensors. However, a major flood can occur quickly. This justifies the implementation of a real-time monitoring system. This work presents a hardware and software platform that uses Internet of Things (IoTFlood) to generate flood alerts to agencies responsible for monitoring by sending automatic messages about the situation of rivers. Research design involved laboratory and field scenarios, simulating floods using mockups, and later tested on the Mundaú River, state of Alagoas, Brazil, where flooding episodes have already occurred. As a result, a low-cost, modular and scalable IoT platform was achieved, where sensor data can be accessed through a web interface or smartphone, without the need for existing infrastructure at the site where the IOTFlood solution was installed using affordable hardware, open source software and free online services for the viewing of collected data.
