A literature survey for the external morphology of tadpoles for species in the genus Cycloramphus Tschudi, 1838, which is mainly represented by larval descriptions, resulted in finding some inconsistent character descriptions. In a few cases, some of the information is either not presented or mistakenly reported; in some cases, the illustrations provided the information not present in the descriptions. Here in we use a sample of tadpoles of an insular population identified as Cycloramphus boraceiensis, present a description for it, compare it to the original larval description for this species, and using it as a model, present a comparative review of the other larval descriptions for Cycloramphus tadpoles. We evaluate that most of the mistakes we found in the literature are associated to the unique morphology of these semiterrestrial larvae and some of their seemingly adaptation to their microhabitats, which for the majority of the known species is a film of water running associated to or near streams.

The evaluation of ship resistance is of paramount importance having a decisive impact on the economic performances and efficiency depending on mission. If new IMO requirements through the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) are taken into account the necessity to have more and more accurate tools capable to consider the influences of different parameters became mandatory. The availability of towing tank facilities and the full scale trials are the practical means in order to be able to confirm the accuracy of theoretical formulations and to define the limits of CFD applications. Based on the results of the towing tank tests, a direct comparison with the results provided by classical methods and CFD computations can be systematically can be performed. On the other hand, the influences of the modifications operated on the fore part of the ship aretheoretically evaluated and compared with the towing tank results. Consequently, the paper is focused on the comparison of the results evaluated using different tools which have been carried out for a Chemical Tanker built by Constanta Shipyard Romania.

Because of our experience with four cases of purulent pericarditis complicating bacterial meningitis during a 13-month period, we performed a prospective study to determine the frequency of this complication. Echocardiograms were done on 100 patients with bacterial meningitis. Small or moderate pericardial effusions were detected in 19 patients, but none had symptoms or signs related to the effusion. Pericardiocentesis was done in one infant; all the other effusions resolved spontaneously. Patients with effusion were significantly younger than those without this complication, but no other significant risk factors were identified. A literature survey indicated that symptomatic pericarditis occurs in fewer than 1% of patients with meningitis. Conversely, in series of cases of purulent pericarditis, associated meningitis was reported in 12% of patients. We concluded that pericardial infection is common in patients with meningitis but that it is usually of no clinical significance and resolves with antibiotic therapy.

Gyrasida Koch (Pimeliinae: Praocini), distributed in central Chile is elevated to generic status and transferred from Asidini to Praocini on the basis of constant tribal level characters. Prior to this study Gyrasida was considered a subgenus of the South African Afrasida Wilke. Character states of Gyrasida shared with the other genera of Praocini and not shared with genera of Asidini are discussed. A cladistic analysis of the six species of the genus is presented including: G. propensa (Wilke) (type species), G. lucianoi Flores & Vidal, G. fernandoi Flores & Vidal, G. tomasi Vidal, G. franciscae Vidal, and G. camilae Vidal. This article includes a redescription of the genus, habitus photographs, illustrations of external morphology and genitalic features, a cladogram, and a distribution map.

Opening ParagraphThe development of large centralized states in West Africa has long been recognized. The complexity of organization of the few well-known kingdoms, but not their differences in size and structure, is constantly emphasized in the literature. The number and variety of West African groups which have not developed states have, on the other hand, frequently been underestimated. In a comparative review by Professors Fortes and Evans-Pritchard two types of political system, centralized and segmentary, have been described for Africa as a whole, with examples of each in West Africa. A survey of West African societies suggests, however, that finer distinctions are possible and that not all these societies can be placed in one or other of these two categories. In particular, this classification omits consideration of ‘stateless’ societies in which associations, rather than a segmentary lineage system, regulate political relations; and it fails to distinguish different types of authority and political structure in states.

The genus Auletta Schmidt, 1970 comprises 14 valid species, with six known from the Atlantic Ocean. The genus was previously recorded for the Brazilian coast only in 1967 from surveys in Pernambuco State. The present paper describes two new Auletta from Northeastern Brazil. Auletta akaroa sp. nov. is from Alagoas State and it has a stalked tubular shape and small sinuous styles and strongyles. Auletta laboreli sp. nov. was found in Pernambuco State and it is a sponge with a cylindrical and cavernous body composed of styles with blunt and telescopic tips and sinuous strongyles. Both new species were compared with the other valid species of Auletta. The spicule complement and external morphology of the new species are discussed.

Five structures of co-crystals grown from aqueous solutions equimolar in 15-crown-5 (or 15C5) and [M(H2O)6](NO3) n , M = Al3+, Cr3+ and Pd2+, are reported. The hydrogen-bonding patterns in all are similar: metal complexes including the fragment trans-H2O—M—OH2 alternate with 15C5 molecules, to which they are hydrogen bonded, to form stacks. A literature survey shows that this hydrogen-bonding pattern is very common. In each of the two polymorphs of the compound [Al(H2O)6](NO3)3·15C5·4H2O there are two independent cations; one forms hydrogen bonds directly to the 15C5 molecules adjacent in the stack, while the other cation is hydrogen-bonded to two water molecules that act as spacers in the stack. These stacks are then crosslinked by hydrogen bonds formed by the three nitrate counterions and the three lattice water molecules. The hydrogen-bonded stacks in [Cr(H2O)5(NO3)](NO3)2·1.5(15C5)·H2O are discrete rather than infinite; each unit contains two Cr3+ complex cations and three 15C5 molecules. These units are again crosslinked by the uncoordinated nitrate ions and a lattice water molecule. In [Pd(H2O)2(NO3)2]·15C5 the infinite stacks are electrically neutral and are not crosslinked. In [Pd(H2O)2(NO3)2]·2(15C5)·2H2O·2HNO3 a discrete, uncharged unit containing one Pd complex and two 15C5 molecules is `capped off' at either end by a lattice water molecule and an included nitric acid molecule. In all five structures the infinite stacks or discrete units form an array that is at least approximately hexagonal.

Financial systems and companies have become the most important reasons in the weakness of world economic system. The formation and development process of the financial structure also constitute the infrastructure of the world economic system. The path of the financial system and development has led to discuss with the financial crisis in 2008-2011. One of the solutions in order to reduce problems caused by the conventional banking system is alternative financing systems. In Turkey, the corporations based on profit share system are named participation banks. These banks which settle on different principles in the risk distribution of the portfolio acquired are analyzed more nowadays. Participation based banks are placed in practically every regulation related to banking terms and get their legal infrastructure more steady in the banking legislation of Turkey. This study is a continuation of a series related to the situation of participation banking in Turkey. On the other hand, the literature and the history of participation banking have been given less attention in this study. Literature information on methods in participation banks has been described in previous work of the series. Two analyzes were conducted in this study. One analysis is interpretive analysis that expresses the situation of applications of participation banking against banking risks. The other is an analysis of the figures of participation banks in Turkey as a continuation of the series. This study is a 2007-2015 part of research series. The study tries to explore the place and the importance of participation based banking with the various sub-headings, especially in Turkey. For this reason, we examine the comparative review 2007-2015 data of participation banks which are composed of Total Assets, Equity Net Profit, Collected Funds and Bank Loan Funds. Then we compare the total figures with deposit banks for the same period in Turkey.

The purpose of this study was to highlight the morphological components of the head, its appendages and the cervical region of the adults of Heraclides anchisiades capys (Hübner, [1809]), looking for a comparative focus with the other Papilionoidea and Hesperioidea. The most relevant morphological characters were: presence of transclipeal band, laterofacial suture in ventral view near the half of the ocular margin of convex aspect, presence of rudimental maxillary palp; union of the cervical sclerites ventromedially and ventral sclerite situated before the merger of the lateral sclerites.

Abstract Flexible couplings are used to transmit power between two shafts and accommodate, more realistically, a combination of parallel, axial and angular misalignments, between them. Presence of misalignment of certain degree is considered unavoidable. The coupling also attenuates the transmission of fluctuation of torque and speed from one rotor to the other by flexing itself, and is thus helpful in providing nearly smooth transmission of speed and torque. However, in this process, the dynamic behavior of the rotors is also influenced by the coupling characteristics, as the coupling incorporates a flexible damped intermediate member between the shafts it couples. A detailed literature survey has shown that researchers so far have not attempted to find out the dynamic characteristics, the stiffness and damping of a coupling, and, instead, the effect of misalignment (combination of parallel and angular misalignment) is considered to generate forces independent of the coupling characteristics. This paper attempts to find out an analytical model for the dynamic characteristic of segmented link coupling in terms of suitable non-dimensional coefficients to generate the characteristics of a coupling element which may be used for dynamic analysis of coupled rotor shaft system.
